I recently started up The Sims 3 after not playing for a few months only to find that my save files were gone and the game had essentially turned back to factory reset, as all lessons were disabled, settings were turned to default, etc. I figured I should check out the Saves folder in Finder to see if the games had been corrupted. The thing is, the saves are there and they're not corrupted. I tried using the backup save, but that didn't work either. All my custom content is intact, too. So obviously the game just isn't reading this folder.
I made a new sim and saved it to the bin, but the name doesn't come up in the SavedSims folder. But the sim is still saved to the bin, even when I reset the game. So the data is on my computer somewhere, I just can't find it. I also started a new game and saved it, and I can reset the game and continue from the last save, just like normal. Hence the title "Invisible Saves".
This [http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sim_Files_Not_Appearing] guide seemed like it was on the right track, but I tried everything to no avail. When I nuke The Sims 3 folder, the game doesn't make a new one. So, I'm at a loss here.
