Game slowing. Please help.
« on: August 19, 2013, 04:03:03 PM »
Hi all I'm hoping some kind techie will help me out. I know I've asked this before and I've done everything that was advised. My game is getting slower & lagging more then jumping sim hours.

I'm playing sims 3 (obviously) on pc version on my laptop.
I have several EPs and SPs and some store content.

I have deleted the following - featured items, caspartcache, simcompositorcache, scriptcache &  compositorcache

I have no mods.

I have moved & any extra games & copies to an external memory stick.

So some technical help would be greatly appreciated, in laymans terms too please as what I know about computers you could write on the back of a postage stamp.

Many thanks in advance & kind regards

What are your computer specs? If you don't know, run a dxdiag report and copy and paste the top part of it here in your next post. You can cut it off just below Driver Strong Name, around 4 inches below the heading Display Devices.

Does this affect all your save files equally much, or are some worse than others? If so, which ones are worse?

Have you tried a factory reset, just to see if that makes any difference?

Do you have any third party CC?

Hi thanks for your reply.

How do I check my computer specs please?

It affects both my saved games the same.

I haven't tried a factory reset, would I lose anything by doing this?

I do have some third party CC. Is there a way to find a delete certain items? Some are corrupted, for example I found a toddler all warped and dressed as the grim reaper.

I can't tell you how to check your computer specifications because I don't know exactly how to, but I can tell you about how to do a factory reset. The instructions are found here. I'm a big fan of it. You won't lose your CC, at least completely. You will keep it on your old game files, but you will have to transfer it to the new ones. If you are having problems with it, I don't recommend putting any of it on your new files until you try out the speed of your game after the reset.

I hope this can help your game! :)

EA has a quick guide to running a dxdiag scan here. :) You can use a program such as Delphy's Dashboard tool to try to find any corrupt or incompatible CC, but it is not 100% foolproof.

Thanks Seabody. The link for the dxdiag says how to gather the information for a report, if it runs a scan what do I do with the information?

Hi Gingerkid.

Did you have a thread dedicated to this same thing?  Or was it part of something else.  If it had its own thread, I'll need to merge this one with it because it would be a duplicate for the same topic.  Let me know, please.  Thanks.

Thanks Seabody. The link for the dxdiag says how to gather the information for a report, if it runs a scan what do I do with the information?

Click on Save all information, then make a new folder in My documents, name it Dxdiag reports, and save the report to that. Now it's easy to find when you need it.

When you make your next post here, you can copy and paste the top part of it, like I said in my previous post.

If Machine name, (just below the date of the report), shows your full name, then you can just delete it, like you would in any other text document.

I hope these answers have made things a bit clearer to you, if not, feel free to ask more questions.

No I don't think so. Just checked through my bookmarks. If you mean because I said I've asked before I meant a long time ago in another thread I think I asked and I put that to cover myself in case. Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks everyone else I'll double check those links again.

Thanks again everyone
