Who's Your Yakshi? (Move to Graveyard)
« on: August 16, 2013, 02:31:18 PM »
My name is Mina and I am a yakshini.  Because I'm lucky enough to be born in an age of supernatural civil rights and the internet, I can just tell people that, and if they don't know what yakshi are, I just direct them to our wikipedia page!

As you can see, we're known by other names too, depending on which part of the world we're in.  Sprites, nymphs, sirens, muses ... all sorts of things.  The point is, when only show up when we've been summoned, and whether they realize it or not, the people of Aurora Skies just summoned me.  I couldn't be more excited.

Now, here's the deal, and it's hush-hush since our full functioning as members of the yakshi isn't strictly public record.  Once we're summoned, we work toward our own freedom.  26 healthy children from 26 different fathers, the final of whom will be my husband and life partner.

Why 26?  Why not 50 or 12?  I don't know.  I'm not the Watcher.

The dissatisfaction and turmoil in the sleepy little town of Aurora Skies called for me and now I'm here.  Each father will give me a little piece of himself when he gives me a child.  I take away some of their duress and create a half-yakshini baby to bring good and wonder to the world.

My traits are family oriented (obviously), irresistible, artistic, hopeless romantic, and dog person.

My companion's name is River.  She's an Australian shepherd and has been with me for as long as I can recall.  Watcher willing, she will be with me through all the days ahead.  She is independent and a hunter.

Below are a set of challenges my sisters and I agreed upon many eras ago for the summoning.  It's just a bit of fun to add to our requirements for freedom.  My children will also be listed in this post when they finally arrive.

Wish me the best of luck!

-------

The Celebrity Cluster (worth 0.6 bonus)
A father with each of the star levels.  He does not need to maintain his star level at any point after conception occurs.
______ 0 stars
______ 1 star
______ 2 stars
______ 3 stars
______ 4 stars
______ 5 stars

The Occult Cluster (worth 1.0 bonus)
A father who is each of the occults listed below.  If you do not have the expansion pack for a particular creature, you may consider the cluster complete without that creature, but also remember to subtract 0.1 from the bonus.  On the reverse side of that, if you are knowledgeable and can create a pregnancy keeping in the spirit of the rules with other creatures, you may feel free to do so and give yourself an additional 0.1 bonus per additional occult father.
__x___ genie
______ imaginary friend
______ ghost
______ vampire
__x___ witch
__x___ fairy
__x___ werewolf
______ alien*
______ plantsim**
______ mermaid

* "Alien" can be fulfilled in one of two ways.  Either your sim's husband can be abducted and a pregnancy results from that, or your sim can meet an alien any other way and have a child with him in the ordinary way.  If the husband has the baby, this does not replace the need for your sim to also have a child fathered by him, but the husband's alien baby does count toward the total of 26.

** This "pregnancy" will not be typical, but the relationship with the father and the woohoo should be the same.

The Travel Cluster (worth 0.4 bonus)
A father who is a resident of each of the travel destinations and one from university, since it works the same way.  This child may be conceived on vacation or during a visit by the father to your sim's home.  Tourists already visiting your town are also allowed.
__x___ Champs Les Sims
__x___ Al Simhara
______ Shang Simla
__x___ University
__x___ Future

The Job Cluster (worth 1.5 bonus)
A father employed at the time of conception in each rabbit hole career.  For careers with two tracks, only one is needed.  To define "service sim," any sim that does a job that cannot be held by an active sim is eligible.  Sims often switch jobs.  This can be a nuisance if you think you've found Business Dad and he changes careers as you try to build a relationship with him.  Nonetheless, it is the career the father has at the point of conception that matters.  If he switches before conception, you should take his new job into account.  If he switches after, you should continue to count him as having the career he had before.  As with the occult cluster, if you don't have the expansion pack that provides a particular career, the cluster is complete when you collect a father for every listed career you do have.  Be sure to subtract the appropriate amount of bonus from 1.5 (0.1 per career) that you're unable to accomplish for lack of the expansion pack.
__x___ business
______ criminal
______ culinary
______ journalism
______ law enforcement
__x___ medical
______ military
______ music
______ political
______ sports
______ science
__x___ education
______ film
__x___ service
______ fortune teller

The Zodiac Cluster (worth 1.2 bonus)
A father with each of the zodiac signs.
__x___ Aries
______ Taurus
__x___ Gemini
__x___ Cancer
__x___ Leo
__x___ Virgo
__x___ Libra
__x___ Scorpio
______ Sagittarius
______ Capricorn
______ Aquarius
______ Pisces

Social Group Cluster (worth 0.3 bonus)
These coincide with the University careers.  Since neither the careers nor the social groups exist without the University expansion pack and cannot exist without each other, these careers have been given their own cluster.
___x__ Nerd/Video Game Developer
______ Rebel/Art Appraiser
______ Jock/Sports Agent

Strategy & Chance - Pt. 1
« Reply #4 on: August 16, 2013, 09:01:47 PM »
(This post has almost 50 screenshots, so will occur over two consecutive posts)

Aurora Skies is gray, gray, gray.  Honestly, I've never seen a place so washed out.  They're lucky this blue lady has arrived to splash some color on them.

River and I got started right away on her hunting training and she went out in search of gems.  One lucky pink diamond later and I could afford to head off to University for a semester which meant 1.) dating pool and 2.) lots of financial aid.

The Watcher seems irritated by how easily I'm able to secure student funding, so I probably shouldn't gloat.  So, this is River.  Isn't she gorgeous?

I met exactly none of my neighbors before heading out.  If they were curious about the strangely dressed, strangely hued woman who moved into the tiny cottage near the gym, they didn't make a fuss about it.  Perhaps if they made fusses more often, a mischievous demi-goddess wouldn't be here to do her thing.

Works out for me anyway.  I put River in a kennel for the week and headed off to the Simlish University to study fine arts.  Since I'll be at home 99.9999% of the time with nooboos, I figure I should probably be self employed.  In any sense, I'm artistic by nature and took quickly to the canvas.

I moved into a mixed gender dormitory.  Never having lived with humans before, I was unaware at how easily their passions are stirred.  Perhaps if I ever return, I'll come with more modest sleepwear.

This gentleman welcomed me quite enthusiastically to the dorm.  It seems he's recently been dumped by a half genie named Emmaline.  Perhaps he has a fondness for women of color.  He certainly has wonderful looking genes.  Into my book he goes.

My first night was a chaotic one.  The strategy portion of the plan had fallen nicely into place.  I should leave at the end of the week with around $10k to start my new life and hopefully a father for that very first special child.  It was all I could think about.

Until the dorms caught on fire.

Notice the lovely girl in the blue cardigan?  Take a good look at her.  That was her last moment on earth.

I'm traumatized.

"Dear Watcher," I prayed.  "How do you cope with death?"

"I don't," she answered.  "I ran over a duck on Wednesday and still haven't processed it like a functional adult."

So, in absence of divine advice, I sucked it up and threw myself into my studies.

Though when her name was called in lecture hall on Tuesday, I had to tell the professor why she was absent.

The others in the dorm are just as distressed as I am.

Perhaps that's why this happened less than two days later.

It has rather inspired my art.

On the third day of the term, I met Scot.  He was not the first man I was attracted to or the most compatible, but I knew immediately that he was the one.

Scot is a Level 10 nerd majoring in science and medicine.  He invites me over a lot for television marathons of the same show from 20 years ago.  That may sound off-putting, but I am quite enjoying it.  Scott, being a witch, has a keen interest in the paranormal, and loves watching the detectives on tv seek out monsters and ghosties and lots of sexual tension.

Things with Scot bloomed quickly.

We can't try for a baby here on campus, so I invited him to come see me at the end of term at my new home.  He could bring his X-Files and meet River.

He agreed, and while I attempted to get back to my painting, I got a rather alarming text from Anoki.

Again?

They don't even care, do they?  Well, eventually they panicked, but it was surely a delayed reaction.

I was honestly relieved when the term ended.  I got an A that I will likely never build upon.  It's not that I don't value education, it's simply that it's not part of my plan at the moment.  University has served its purpose.

I spent all day Saturday painting and waiting for the moving truck.  I'm anxious to see my dog and get back to building my new life.

Perhaps a spirit of love and fertility should party harder during her dorm days, but honestly, I'm just grateful that I didn't catch on fire.

Strategy & Chance - Pt. 2
« Reply #5 on: August 16, 2013, 09:16:53 PM »
Oh, home!  Not the mists of Goa but my own little house in my own little village where they summoned little old me to come get her yakshi on.  I'm so glad to be back.

Scot would be arriving the very next day, so I spent some quality time with my River and then headed off to the shops to sell my paintings and grab a few supplies.  I spent a large chunk of my newfound money upgrading the kitchen and replacing the living room with a crib and swing for my nooboo.

I met a strange little boy.  His name was something like Julian.  He followed me around to two stores and kept initiating conversation.  Well, at least there's someone friendly around here.  Maybe when you're older, kiddo.

I'm teaching myself to cook out of necessity.  There are many things I need to learn, so prioritizing them is yet again that strategy necessity.

I told River all about Scot.  I know she can't talk, but I think she approves of my choice.  A shy but handsome nerd and a witch to boot.

He was right on time.

And I was just more certain than ever that he was the right choice.

Yes, I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic.  Call it one of my charms.  I intend to fall in love with every single man who provides me a child.

What would be the point otherwise?

Scot had to head back to campus, but I promised that he was welcome to come visit his son or daughter any time he liked.  Hopefully I could expand with a guest room by the time he or she was a child!  He left feeling bolstered.  Perhaps a little less nerdy and shy.

I experienced my very first morning sickness.  Boy, that was unpleasant.  Simmunity is now on my wish list.

I was showing in no time.  I am in default maternity clothes for now.  The Watcher has promised to design something for me soon, though.

River seems needier than usual in my pregnancy.  Maybe she fears I'll love her less.  So, I'm sure to give her lots and lots of TLC.

I try to paint, but pregnancy brain keeps creating very strange mistakes, so perhaps I'll hold off.  (Watcher's note: omg she's so adorable).

The finished product isn't half bad, though.  Hopefully it will sell for a good price.

The morning that I went into labor, I was in the process of trying to fill my scarily-empty hunger bar.

So, I was starving the whole time.  But this was strategy paying off, right?  Right?

Wrong.

Twins!  How on earth did I get twins the first try?  I only have one crib and basically zero space!  Argh argh argh.

But I will persevere.  My new daughters are slightly differing shades of pink.  Dana is a heavy sleeper who loves the outdoors.  Fox is good and excitable.

And River suspects they are both special like their daddy.

I admit I was initially alarmed.  But it's so easy to fall in love with a gurgling bundle of love.

I'm finally a mother.  It feels right.

That doesn't change the dire need for more money and more space, though.  First order of action needs to be a second crib.  So, River has been out doing her thing.  She's a level 8 hunter now.

And I've just dropped off a massive pile of gemstones at the alchemy shop while an unsuspecting teen babysitter was driven batty by my pink twin girls.

At least now I know for sure.  There's strategy in this game, yes.  But there is going to be a great deal of chance too.

For the record, I have never had a: A) Fire, B) Death, C) Starvation in any of my University visits, even in dorms. And I don't know who's cuter, Mina or River.

I'm in love with those sets.  Hopefully I'll be able to use every piece!

Twins Witches. Yay looks like you are off to a good start. Good luck for the future. :)

Thanks!  Mina didn't sleep at all until they were children.  Poor thing.

Why is university a death trap for me?!  I've come to terms with the duck, but thanks for the condolences ;)

----

May I first start out by just giving a giant shout out of thanks to whoever this teen babysitter is?  She is the only reason I even got to halfway on my energy motive while the twins were babies.

Bravo, random townie.  Bravo.

Toddlerhood was a bit of improvement, though not by much.  Look at my adorable pink munchkins!!  Dana:

And Fox:

They both have their daddy's eyes and hair.  It looks like Fox is going to inherit my general look, though.  It's amazing how quickly you forget how to even imagine life without them!

After some initial skepticism, River has decided that the girls are hers to protect and care for.  It's really quite sweet how she guards the cribs and checks on them throughout the day.

The girls themselves love River and seem more harmonious when she is in the room.

I built a very small addition to the house for when they are older.  I would really prefer to move.  This property is restrictive in where I can develop, but I don't have the funds yet.  I'm hoping teaching the girls their skills will give me enough LTH points to get a genie.

I know, it isn't much.  But my girls seem happy just to be.  And that's what's important.

Dana seems happiest outside.  I bought a walker and put her in the yard during the day, under the watchful eye of River, to enjoy the crisp fall air.

This has the added benefit of spending her energy.

Fox is more of a homebody at this stage.  She loves being picked up and tossed in the air.

She's an apt little student and has picked up her skills very quickly.

It's amazing that even potty business makes me feel tender at the moment.

Talking was the final order of business before I could cake them up.  Their first words were "sun"

And "nap"

It's bitter sweet to age them up to children.  On one hand, I really miss sleeping.  On the other, it's such a sweet family dynamic.

In any sense, birthdays happened.

And my baby girls sprouted up several inches.

I confess I didn't stick around for cake.  I gave them permission to make use of the new makeover station outside and fled up to the comfort of my bed before they could argue.

It occurs to me now that maybe I should've been there to give them style guidance.  They played with River in turns while the other created her look.

And now I live with a princess and a pirate.  Which, you know, is probably just fine in the grand scheme of things.

I did attempt to take my own turn after the girls were asleep, but creating additional outfits for myself creates issues in my universe and the game crashed.  I'd say better luck next time, but after looking at this photo, I'm kind of afraid to ever go outside by myself again.

Ah well.  Onward we go.  I think I'm ready for another baby.

Our First Winter - Pt. 1
« Reply #9 on: August 18, 2013, 02:34:27 PM »
The twins made it to exactly one day of school before the snow became too heavy to continue.  It seemed their childhood would exist in a winter paradise, free of any obligations.

After the crash, their repeat birthdays brought along this familiar sight, but it was dealt with quickly.

Dana, my little genius, took it upon herself to designate our maid as the next baby daddy.

He's not a bad choice.  His genes are passable and he'd qualify for one of my service member requirements, but I'd already set my sights on a werewolf named Jessie.

Jesse is married to a fairy named Wanda and has one child by her already.  Since becoming a werewolf, he's struggled with the lack of refinement that comes along with his species.  It has put a strain on his marriage since Wanda's fae status grants her a certain elegance.

It didn't take much to convince Jessie to father my next child, though I insisted he not end his marriage over it.

I brought him home and promptly traumatized Fox.

But, these things are necessary.

She and her sister took to the backyard to avoid the romantic atmosphere inside.

That igloo would later become their haunt of choice throughout the days of their childhood, though it caused them to mutter and eyeroll any time I insisted that if it's thanks to me that it was built.

Jessie, for his part, seems to be in better spirits following our tryst.  I sent him back home to his wife.

The following morning was a bleak one.  Gray old Aurora Skies had declared its first snow day.

So, the girls and I went to the festival.  We stayed until we were all so exhausted we could barely keep our eyes open.

I sent the girls home to spend some time with River while I delivered her latest batch of gemstones to the elixir store.  My paintings brought in decent value, but River is the real breadwinner of the Yakshi family.

I've now mastered all of the major gem cuts, so the gems are worth more and more.  Enough for us to find a new home soon.

The girls are excited about a little brother or sister.  Fox, the supernatural fan in the family, hopes it is a wereboo.

I just hope it's healthy and well behaved.

I found a vial of midas touch at the elixir store during my pregnancy and am holding out until the baby is born to use it.  A bigger house is right on the horizon.  And not a moment too late.

I went into labor upstairs.  Downstairs, this was happening at the same time.

I missed my babies growing up.  And you only sparkle so many times, you know.  But Remus was ready to join us and nothing on earth could've stopped him.  I welcomed my beautiful, human son into the world with a smile.  He is a good virtuoso.

"We look like grandmas," Dana said from outside.

They would take their turns at the makeover station and when they came back inside, they'd have quite the surprise!  But I'd miss that too.  Sleep is too precious to miss when there's a new baby in the house.

So, it turns out that as teens, Dana is still a pirate and Fox is still a princess.  Though if I say that out loud, I'm met with some spectacular sulking and offense.

Little Remus never gets offended by his mommy, does he?  No, he doesn't.

He seems pretty fond of his sisters too.

The day after he was born, I used the Midas Touch potion and profited around $50k after converting a bunch of salvaged junk.

We moved to a lovely open area just out of town.

It did cost most of the money, especially after adding on the second bedroom, but we're sure it will be entirely ours in no time.

Don't mind Fox in her formal wear.  She suffers from a bit of lunacy at the full moon.  Last night, she slept in a wetsuit and tried to slap me at least twice.

The first night in the new house was full of hopes for its future.  River seems to hope I manage to avoid setting this one aflame.

The girls stayed up late enjoying the new patio area.

From what I understand the grog on their first day of high school was entirely worth it.

They are getting along better these days.  As children, they'd fight constantly over who could build the best block tower.

"Ah, mine is perfect!" Dana would gloat.

"Looks like swamp ruins," Fox would casually answer.

"At least I know what a swamp looks like, miss stay-at-home!" Dana would snap back.

Which would result in Fox stealing the design of the "swamp ruins" later and claiming victory.  It was a vicious cycle.

One that still gets brought up in moments of competition.

Remus aged up while his sisters were at school.  He has these huge, purple eyes that just make him heart-meltingly adorable.

Sure, he's not rainbow colored or supernatural, but that doesn't make him any less remarkable.

We've been flying through his skills.  I'd like to get him aged up to child as soon as possible so that we can all take a much-needed family vacation.

Walking and talking were a breeze, but he sure doesn't like the potty.  I've never known a toddler to fight so against being potty trained.

He's a sweet little thing, though.  A perfect addition to my perfect little family.

Mina is beautiful! I'm really enjoying your story. There's a genuineness to Mina that is enjoyable. She might be fathering 26 children (well, 27 at least now) from 26 fathers, but it still doesn't seem factious in anyway. I like that, and I like your manner of writing.

Remus definitely has gorgeous eyes. I love him!

His eyes are just killer.  From what I can tell he's going to be a very attractive Sim.

You always design such wonderful founders! Mina is gorgeous. I love her angular jawline and the soft, seductive setting of her eyes. It's going to be interesting to note which feature is most commonly expressed in her children.

Also, I didn't know that two occult Sims could produce a human offspring! Perhaps this is the case with little Remus because one parent was initially human? Either way, good luck infusing the muted Aurora Skies with vibrant, half-Yakshi babes!

[File under: "Real Sims Have Curves" and "Hooray for Beautiful, Phenotypically Diverse Sims"]

I love CAS and mixing genes a lot!  So this challenge is great for chilling out after work, etc.  Mina isn't actually an occult sim.  She is just a human on the rainbow slider.  So Remus inherited her human-ness and his daddy's skin tone.  Ah well, at least he's a looker!

Thanks so much!  I feel genuinely fond of her.

------

At long last, it was time for Remus to age up to a child!

I am hoping as I get further along in this challenge that it'll be easier to leave them as babies for longer.  But right now, it's skills and up they go.  Remus is going to be a little heartbreaker.

His sisters put on quite the enthusiastic show for his sparkles.

And while they sat down for cake, I made the call that we were ready for our flight.  The kids had no idea where we were even going until we pulled into the airport parking lot!

Al Simhara seems to be a city of love.  No matter which alley you turn down, you'll catch locals in embrace.

Even at the base camp, these two gentlemen seemed to have become rather fond of each other.

We have all taken different routes of maximizing our experience.  Dana, ever the curious genius, is exploring the tombs.

Fox has decided to really power up her magic so that she may upgrade our appliances before she ages up.

Remus is either with his toy Rommie (who has shown no sign of becoming real as yet) ...

... or obeying the whims of this charming little local.  Her name is Menet.  Remus insists we have her visit when he is a teen.

Dana, for her part, has given me the scoop on anyone who she's met through the adventure boards.  However, I didn't have chemistry with any of her picks.

Which isn't to say her networking was for nothing.

I met Hassaan quite by chance.  I was buying a mummified teddy bear for my eventual half-Egyptian child and he helped me pick it out.  We talked until the sun went down.

He was immediately on my shortlist, but having the same astrological sign as Jessie was a shortcoming.  Also, I had no shortage of admirers.  (Watcher's Note:  Leave Mina standing in one place for too long and her entire queue will fill with "listen" interactions from everyone in the area).

Hassaan, though.  He stood out.

I decided then and there that I wouldn't be able to really feel satisfied with anyone else.  So we spent one, magical evening in the oasis of Camp Moon.

Hassaan was gone when I woke, but I felt wonderful.  I had heard chimes and the weather was so calm and balmy.  I sat and sketched for the whole of the morning.

In all honesty, it was difficult to fly back to Aurora Skies.  Though there is always one thing I can't stand being away from.

River just became an elder, but she has a good amount of LTH points.  I'm hoping that we can douse her with some young again as soon as she gets dangerously old.  For now, she's still a spry lady, supplementing the family with valuable gems and metals.  And sometimes ... other things.

The full moon hit on our first night back.  Lunacy hit poor Fox again and she kept running around in her winter coat screaming about her age being wonky.  Unfortunately, I checked, and somehow she is now five days younger than Dana.  But, to me, it's just a longer time with my precious baby before she leaves me.

In any sense, the lunacy makes her want to do crazy amounts of magic, so we got a lot of converted apples and updated appliances out of the episode.

The next morning, everything was back to normal again.

I do a lot of painting to pass the time in my pregnancy, but as I grew bigger, the strain became too much, so I took to reading instead by our newly flame-proof fireplace.

Labor hit me just as I was sitting down for one of Dana's famous tofu dogs.  Poor Dana couldn't even gather herself enough to make any audible sounds.

By the time the baby finally arrived, all three of my children were bored of labor panic and had left me to my devices.  So, right in the kitchen, I welcomed Isis into the world.  She is friendly and loves the heat.

And she's green like the oasis at Camp Moon.

Your names are so perfect! Congrats on the Nooboo, Tilia! I enjoy Mina's adventures, and Egypt is such a fun place. Don't worry about him having the same astrological sign. You have a lot more men to find than there are zodiac symbols!
