Reinstallation Nightmare!
« on: August 14, 2013, 10:51:07 PM »
So I posted another thread about minor glitches and possibly needing to reinstall. This is related, but a totally different issue. Not trying to start a billion threads on essentially the same topic, but thought it might be just different enough to warrant its own. If I was wrong, by all means please merge them.

Short story is that I had to reinstall after the game glitching out too many times.

I'm on a pretty new Mac running the most current OS (10.8.4).

The first thing that was a little amiss was that the uninstaller wasn't really working. I waited, and waited, and nothing. So eventually I just uninstalled manually by dragging everything to the trash after making copies of my saves and stuff... but I was pretty certain I removed everything.

I started reinstalling, and in the past when I've done it I've opened the launcher after each install to get patched and stuff as a result of past issues. I did this again, but after a few discs the launcher wouldn't open. It was an "unknown error" and after googling around I had to go into my ~Library folder, find some preferences and delete a bunch of stuff which worked fine to open the launcher, but then by happenstance I saw that at least one of the discs didn't really get installed. It was such a mess and I had only installed a couple, so I deleted everything again and started over.

This time, because of the Unknown Error problem I decided not to open the launcher in between discs. I installed straight through... with one little problem which was my fault. I stuck University Life in before 70s/80s/90s, and when I tried to install the latter it said the version of TS3 was more recent than expected, blah blah. I've had problems with that message before so I decided to uninstall University Life first, then install 70s..., and then reinstall UL. (Could that have messed this whole thing up????)

Finally, after reinstalling IP, I opened the launcher and of course got pop-ups for game updates and store content patches etc. I did this. Then I got a pop-up asking for my computer account password because it needed to change permissions. I've seen this before, I gave my password. Once it was done a message popped up that said: "Some files have been modified. Please Reinstall."

Reinstall what? Island Paradise? Everything? WHAT IS GOING ON?!

This is quite literally the most frustrating thing that's ever happened to me involving TS3. I don't know what to do :(

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

EDIT: I also looked this up online and it appears other people have had this problem, but seems mostly isolated to patch 1.3 (and maybe 1.4)... but that shouldn't be what my game should be updating to, is it?
