Building Tools and 'stuff' we would like to see?
« on: August 13, 2010, 05:24:43 AM »
If we could add any Building tools or methods in EPs or Patches what would they be?

This is for Building and Landscaping Improvements - General Sim improvement Ideas Thread is here

Straight away I would say 'Being able to Recolour Chimneys' and maybe for landscaping 'The ability to adjust The Height and size of Trees, Flowers, Shrubs and Rocks' I often feel we don't have enough tools to use for building, limited to walls and foundations when we 'Should be able to use Half Walls and Stages' they have given us the Individual roof changer so why not 'The ability to change the tile type of Roof Sections'

Those are what springs to mind but I think there are a lot more.

Personally I would like to be able to make my own custom objects. Unfortunality that's probably not going to happen but one can dream right?

Aren't they promising some new building tools with late night? I could be wrong, but I thought half walls and stages were mentioned?

That would be an intresting devolpment. But I think he means something that's not already been thought up.

They should make a CAO that we can download where we can make the objects using models and Parts and then insert them into the game.

I hope they are! Correct me if I am wrong but weren't half walls introduced in NightLife?

That would be an intresting devolpment. But I think he means something that's not already been thought up. (I was just about to post and then you did!)
I mean that isn't in the game but New stuff that hasn't been seen is good as well, I really want Half walls and stages back.

I'd like some sort of curved wall tool. Not sure how practical that would be, but it would be nice to be able to build turrets or lighthouses!

This may not be so much about building tools, but I want to be able to change the length of my sims hair and clothes! (i.e. shirt sleeve length, skirt length, pants length, etc.) :P

Not sure about the half walls coming in Late Night (but it would be good) but the stage tool looks like making a comeback. Although, I'd like to see it in different heights to make various staircases.
Rounded wall pieces would be good. There is a castle set at the store, but the tower walls are not straight up, they have a ledge bit in them.
I'd like a few more window/door sets. Too often there is a great double window you like to use, but no matching single window or vice versa. For TS2 I had a ton of CC and most of it was building sets where there were single, double, tall and low windows that all matched. I miss that and I suppose I could get CC for TS3, but I really don't want to go down that path again. Just wish EA would put a bit more effort into sets.
And lastly, I would love to see a wall covering that is just three different coloured vertical stripes all the same size. I know that sounds weird, but then we could truely make our own wall papers including murals. I would love to put fantasy murals back in my kids bedrooms.

I don't consider myself a builder, so I don't watch for this stuff.  But the doesn't the Sims 3 Store sell building sets?  They might already have some of the matching windows available.

Grant mentioned that half-walls were coming with this upcoming EP in his interview.  I am excited about this and looking forward to the elevators.  Spiral staircases would be awesome!

I don't consider myself a builder (much less fully-competent at building), but I've never understood how (even in the Sim2) way Maxis / the Assorted EA "Studio" Teams, have implemented "stairs."

I can't understand why they can't get the code working to have a set of stairs work in a 4x4 grid.

Other than the fidgety implementation of stairs, I'm really satisfied with the current set of build tools (as of Ambitions). I never much used "half-walls" nor "stages", but they'd be nice to have (because, stairs are so tricky).

And of course elevators, and circular-staircases (because, stairs are so tricky).

[I guess the only other thing I'd like is a button to invoke "buildcheats", I hardly EVER use cheats in-game. The only time I use them is during building, I can't honestly think of a single time I've used any "testingcheats" while actually "playing" the game (unless one of my Sims is bugged, in which case I'm not playing my game any longer, I'm trying to figure out what to do to "fix" my bugged Sim! :D).]

Solstice,

Yep. :)

After Apartment Life came out in August of 2008 (an expansion pack for The Sims 2, released in September of 2004), users could build and install stairs using a 4x4 grid.

I was really expecting the 4x4 grid (or circular staircases) in The Sims 3 (released in June, 2009).

I don't mean to sound snarky as I type (if I do), but it was "working" in 2008. :D

I certainly don't begrudge EA making some money! They are a business, and will cease to exist if they fail in their business.

I can't (for real) imagine any purchases I've made that have "paid off" for me like the Sims. :D Given the HUNDREDS of hours I've clicked and typed away, it's the best "bang-for-the-buck" I can think I've ever made.

I just want stairs working better.  :D

I jumped into a Sim the other day (Harwood Clay, I think is his name) and was stunned at how pretty his house was. He lives in Twinbrook, and the only reason I even "jumped into him" was because someone asked a question over here in this thread about building techniques.

I think the build tools in the Sims3 are really great. I'm pleased, I'd just "like to see" as samoht04 asked, better "stairs" tools.

I think what would be neat is when you use the border for your flower beds, that you could loop them and make them circular.  Square beds get boring, I see so many of the flower beds with the loops and curves and those hedge rows, you could also loop.  The hedge rows we use now connect real nice at the corners and they really don't look to bad.  Just a suggestion.  I guess those links that samoht put on the thread really got the wheels turning. :)
