Platform shadows
« on: August 13, 2013, 03:07:02 PM »
While designing the master bedroom for the house I'm currently working on, I had this grand desire to put the bed up on a platform.

This required A. Lot. of remodeling, not only of the master, but also of the great room downstairs as I had to relocate the stairs. But I got it done, and I was super excited with the result.

Until I spun around to the room behind it to check and make sure I hadn't missed any paint spots. And I saw this:

I'm looking at that smudge between the peacock feathers and the pink plant. That's caused by the platform behind that wall. Is there anything I can do to get rid of that, save getting rid of the platform or redoing my "gallery" wall?

Not really sure what to do, try putting a light there on the ceiling above the shadow thing. If that doesn't work, try moving things on the wall to different place. Good luck, and I hope this helps!  ;D

That smudge you see isn't necessarily from the platform but probably more likely from the plant.  For some reason some of the plants will created a deep shadow like that.  VERY annoying.  The only two ways I've found to fix it is either a light that shines pretty much on that area, (like the snake light used for paintings or overhead gallery lights), or choosing a different plant.  Try removing one of the plants, either the dogwood, (pink one), or the feathery looking one, one at a time to see which one is creating the shadow.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

I wish it were that simple, but no. :/ I moved all sorts of things around before figuring out that the platform was my problem.

I've just stuck a giant painting in front of it. Out of sight, out of mind.
