Really weird routing
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:27:34 AM »
Hi!!

I recently moved into a new house in a new town. The problems I'm having are:
     1. Whenever I try to pick up my dog in my room, both of my sim and the pet would walk all the way to another room downstairs then perform the action.
     2. whenever I try to put down my pet in my room, the crossed footstep bubble shows up and prevents me from doing so everytime
     3. this does not happen all the time but when the way of my sim is blocked, he would walk out of the house instead of just standing there.

Could it be a mod thing? I have mastercontroller, overwatch, and story progression installed. I have had them for awhile and they didn't cause any problem before though...
Does anyone happen to have run into the same problems? Any suggestion as to what might solve them will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance :)

For some reason, there are just some houses that are like that.  In some, I have rearranged furniture and that helped some.  I am not quite sure why it happens.  I have had some sims that come home and go all the way around the house and up the stairs to their bedroom.  Big dogs especially seem to have a routing issue, they will back up and finally get the pathing bubble.  I have those mods too and it really has nothing to do with them.  I have told the sim to "put down pet here" and they also go into another room, so not really sure why, because they have plenty of room.
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

Welcome to our Forum!

I've had the same thing happen, too.  Sometimes it seems like there may not be enough open space to perform the action.  That's about the only thing I can guess and even that doesn't explain a lot of it.

I had a house where the sim would run all the way to the opposite side of the yard and into the top corner of the lot whenever it was time to fertilize one potato plant- turns out the plant  was too close to the fence. deleted fence, problem fixed, but it was lots of testing and laughs before I got around to modifying the fence

That's a really interesting finding!! I tried clearing out lots of space afterwards but it didn't seem to do anything though :(
I decided to move to a new house and it seems like the house doesn't have these routing problems so far.
Anyway! thank you all for replying and trying to help :D

I often have this with performing actions related to toddlers. The parents will walk downstairs (or outside when the house has only 1 story but does have foundation) with the toddlers following them. But obviously they can't take the stairs so the parent gets the routing problem thought bubble. It's kind of annoying. If I notice it happening I cancel the action and redo it. Most of the time the parent will move back to the toddler without the toddler having to move somewhere else but turning around.

How big was the dog. Some big breeds with fluffy hair need a LOT more room. I had one dog that kept going into an area and just standing. The other big dog, not fluffy, the Sims, the cat, no one else had trouble using the door.

When I cancelled the action, or teleported the dog, he'd do something else and then go back. Finally I ripped down the wall and that allowed the dog to get through and he stopped wanted to go up there. Then I rebuilt the wall and put plants to keep everyone out.

I found often if a "Sim" gets a new path in their "head," so to speak, they will always take it. Use the traffic cones to block it and they will find another way and given time use that way, even if you remove the cones.
