The Sims 3 Late Night "Sneak Peek" ... comments?
« on: August 11, 2010, 08:16:41 AM »
Hello everyone!

A "Sneak Peek" at the upcoming Expansion, Late Night, was recently posted on EA's Sims3 website.

I'm really interested in what the folks here at Carl and Pam's Forum think / have to say about this (after giving it a read and a few moments of thought).  :)

I don't intend to hijack this thread about Late Night, that's been around a while.

I just think EA sounds like they are marketing Late Night as "racy" and "mature / adult," in comparison to "suburban, lighthearted" Nightlife.

Thanks for your time if you post,

(And now I know, for sure, "Bleh" comes from Sesame Street’s The Count, as apposed to some old Bela Lugosi movie!)

I can't seem to find that peek you're referring to. In either links, I'm just directed to the Swedish equivalent (it's really hard for me to access the English website) where they haven't put up the news yet! :'(

EDIT: I managed to come right after explicitly writing "gb." first before the web address in a google search. It's really annoying with the languages on that website. I'm having serious trouble (I can't seem to fix) to find the English forum! It forces me to the Swedish forum with practically nothing on! >:(

Swede and anybody else having problems with seeing that article:

Sneak peek at The Sims 3 Late Night
POSTED ON 08/10/10 09:08 PM

The notion of spending an evening with good group of friends for a fantastic time is global in its appeal and cannot be pinned to any culture. Our goal with Late Night was to provide the most complete, thrilling, and modern take on an afterhours scene than we’ve ever done before.

We always look to the past for inspiration and find ways to evolve. The theme and feel of Nightlife was a bit suburban and lighthearted. It presented a set of late night activities for Sims stuck in suburbia and overly family-friendly entertainment such as the bowling alley. The silliness was quite evident in the coordinated group dance “smustle,” or the vampires who cavorted about town in an outfit similar to the one Sesame Street’s The Count would wear.

The Sims 3 Late Night is set to be a more mature and realistic look at the night scene in a more urban environment. Instead of experiencing pre-determined set pieces that players would inevitably see over and over, it’s more of a playground of possibility and intrigue.

The open neighborhood allows Sims to migrate from bar to bar, each of which will offer new drinks, new clientele, and new activities. Grungy dives may be a great place to start the evening with cheap juices or darts with your Sim’s friends. However, from there your Sim should travel to an upscale lounge where, assuming they can get in, the bar-goers will be more attractive, the drinks will be better, and the music will push everyone to the dance floor. Exclusivity plays a big role in the Late Night scene. Being someone determines where you can go and what you can do. The rewards for becoming a VIP aren’t just recognition, but access to exclusive lounges, friendships, and more ways to experience the night.

How your Sims approach this vibrant and diverse night scene is entirely up to you. Will they hit the scene with a group of friends as a normal Sim and hope they can get past the bouncer? Or will they pool together some of the best musical talent in town and become the hottest new band? Impressing a celebrity or even becoming one has several perks that can fundamentally change a Sim’s life. Innovative and entertaining bartenders who know their way around a delicious beverage are always sought by the best clubs. It also helps to be a creature of the night– as a Vampire, your Sim can use their amazing abilities to draw more out of life…from others.

Interactive high-rises allow players to finally view the world from the top floor of a towering building. There is no better way to convey wealth in a game all about being somebody than a glamorous rooftop party amidst the evening skyline. Penthouses can be filled with luxury objects such as hot tubs and your Sim’s every whim tended to by their butler.

Having a butler allows your Sim more time to attend countless parties thrown around town by celebrities with whom your Sim should be building a relationship. In Late Night, there is always a party somewhere.

A richly diverse scene, great music, bartending, Celebrities, and even vampires will make Late Night an original downtown playground in which Sims can let loose and have amazing experiences.

O wow, just wow! We are going to have butlers! FINALLY!!!! :D
Reading this info I assume that the charismatic, guitar skills and even the nectar skill are going to be very VERY important in this expansion. I'm looking forward to it.

Butlers butlers...  ;D I love the idea of not having to call one of those whiny baby sitters every time I run out to grab a gem behind the house.

Indeed. Now we have to hope butlers will also take care of babies and toddlers beside cooking or cleaning. Maye they will do the garden as well, being part of their routine, or train other personal in those specialisations, doing the laundry and helping kids with their homework. Hope they can have a room in your home too, for their freetime time.
And best of all: don't let them be playable! Otherwise you still have something to take care of.

Swede,

I apologize, I know EA's pretty sneaky / careful about how they handle traffic to their assorted web-sites. Since the laws are different (at hence how the games are rated) from country-to-country, they have to be careful. I'm sure whatever browser you are using "knows" what country it's in, and that value's getting passed to the server, and the server tries to re-direct you to an "approved" web-site for your location.

Next time I've a post where I point to a specific EA-site, I'll make sure I post the content as well, for the folks in other locations who might get trapped trying to get there.

Thanks for posting the content of the link, wildredchild.  :)

Actually, I spent a huge amount of time sweeping over the Swedish forum in search for someone who also asked how you can access other languages (it was hard to navigate). Then after I read a thread about it, I found the 'choose language' button at the bottom of some screens on the website. When I tried to click on it, the website glitched up, but after more attempts I managed to view the English site as I think it should be. They certainly didn't make it easy, but at least I know how now LOL. ;)

I would enjoy playing a new butler career though! It would be much more interesting if they made more of the NPCs' careers playable, like maids and babysitters. Maybe you can't consider those non-playable characters, but their jobs certainly are non-playable   :(

Ugh, building and maintaining a large circle of friends seems to be at the heart of this expansion.

That actually seems like a very small point of the EP. Everything I've read from the Sims site about friends only said having the right friends can help get you into more exclusive bars and clubs. I think the heart of the EP is more about lush and lavish lifestyles than friends.

I understand, I'm more of a loner myself. I just want to play get this just to 1) get it (of course) and 2) to get vampries. I like the idea of transfering your sims "Vampireism" to another. Some may call it a curse, but I call it a intresting part of game structure.

Then you have to clean up other sims houses day and night, as a job. You sure you want to do that? ;)

Actually yes... I would actually like a maid/butler career. It would both entertaining and maybe intresting.
