Is anyone else—emotionally attached to their sims?
« on: July 26, 2013, 05:09:58 PM »
  Have you? I seriously have...
I've recently realized that I'm attached to just one of my families. I started a couple months ago. Ok ok, look, I got a little jealous of Pam's perfect sims, so I attempted to create them in my game. I absolutely lived her decadynasty. That's right, I hooked up Zelda Mae and Christopher Steel to see what happened. Two beautiful daughters were born. The "heir" (Violet; I named them after colors) looked identical to Taffy. Violet grew on me. I raised her baby to elder and cried at her death. What makes her so significant? Why is she so special? I tell a lot of people about her. Hehe.
Six generations later.... Violet had been dead for five generations....five hundred years. Aqua, the fifth heir, revived her with her Genie Lamp. I fell back in love with her all over again. The sixth heir, now a teen, brewed up a Young Again Potion and Violet has helped raise the seventh generation heir.
It's interesting how the descendants look almost, if not, identical to Pam's, even with the children having different fathers. lol. Pam, you're gonna loveeeeeee the seventh generation heir.
Now, running seven generations of sims in one file is beating up my computer. I love them so much and can't bear to see them unplayable. I revived the file last night and was able to play again. But it crashed.
People, I'm attached to them. I can't leave them.

No, I don't need technical advice. I want to know if any of you guys are attached to your sims? Wanna tell their story a little? Or, am I flat out crazy? Lol.

You are so not crazy. When you put so much time and hair-pulling effort into something you really get attached to it.
I've never played a Sim family long enough to really fall in love with it (be it glitches or short attention span... I've got many excuses for all of my re-dos and trashed Sim saves).
I am however, really-REALLY attached to one Sim in particular and I've used her for so, so many things. She's not a family, nor a save file, but just a Sim in my SimBin I refer to for just about EVERYTHING.
I remember Late Night had just come out, and I was so interested in the Vampire part of it. I decided to make a reclusive, gothic, artsy Sim to chase down a Vampire and become the most stunning, talented Vampiress of them all. I named her Esmerelda Nix. After I used her for the one story, I've found myself constantly going back and using her Sim (keeping her name, but sometimes changing her traits to fit the story) and I've almost created a back story for her because I've used her for so many different stories... I once even debated making a story called: "All the Faces of Esmerelda Nix" because it's such a long-running joke for me that I use her for all of my new stories my head devises. I've not once altered her face shape or her body type, but I'll often change her hair color or clothing and use her as the basis for many (and I mean MANY) of my other Sims.

If I ever lost her I would probably cry my eyes out, just being honest here.

There is a single Sim I am attached to. William. He is the founder of my over a year old legacy, and I never intended him to live forever, but he just started to run his own way, and I helped Him. He took on a mind of his own and sort of became another personality in me, I never have trouble writing him,and he has stayed alive through ten generations of Sims, just getting more and more powerful and less and less like a normal Simmer's sim.  He is Narcissistic beyond belief, he thinks his genes are perfect and runs a colony on the moon with no one but descendants of his (And his wife)  ;D

If this is craziness, I think it's a form of insanity that is probably pretty common among Sims-players.

When I was doing my Immortal Dynasty, Generation 5 turned out to be twins, quite unexpectedly.  I really liked the younger twin, and I remember crying because he was going to never be able to get married or have a family of his own, and would ultimately die while his brother lived on forever.  I almost didn't finish my dynasty because of that.

Also, I almost always play with aging off because I just hate the idea of any of my characters dying.

I actually LIKE the feeling that he is a special sim, that feeling is created for example when his great-great Grandson dies and William is still a Young Adult ;D

Every sim I create!  I just cannot bear to see them die, so I keep them alive with ambrosia, "tonic" nectar (made with life fruit, flame fruit and one other fruit), and just simply eating life fruit.  I play them until I just get bored and start a new game.  Every now and again, I have to clear out the last saved files for all my old, forever young sims!  Sad, I know, but I've been like this since the Sims 1.
“In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal. That the weak overcomes the strong, that the hard gives way to the gentle -- this everyone knows. Yet no one asks accordingly.”

I absolutely get attached to my Dreamweavers.  I have all of them saved and I pull them out for various things, like exploring a new expansion or writing an article for the Guide.  Then any of their new children also get saved and used the same way.  Most of the time, I just can't play a Sim who's not a Dreamweaver.  I try to play townies in a new expansion, but I get quickly bored and end up grabbing a Dreamweaver to explore everything.

I would love to see a picture of Violet, the one who looks like Taffy!

I would love to see a picture of Violet, the one who looks like Taffy!

I got a little excited...:) Here is Violet, who is almost identical to Taffy. Christopher's hair and mouth; plus Zelda's gorgeous black eyes! Of course, I dressed her in violet, a shade of purple. I love naming sims after colors! I even gave her Taffy's beret... and she's even a painter!

I really want to show you the rest of the "heirs"! This is Lime, the second heir aka Lollipop. I, obviously, dressed her in lime, a shade of green. Those are her daddy's blue- green eyes. Doesn't she have a little Lollipop in her, eh?

This is Mint, the third heir aka Charms, I see a little Charms in her, eh? Mint clothing really compliments her!

This is Aqua, the fourth heir, aka Godiva, the first heir without Christopher's hair. I see a lot of Godiva, but she has brown eyes, where Godiva has green eyes. The brown eyes came from daddy, as well as blond hair! (which by the way look beautiful with her green clothing!)

This is Peaches, the fifth heir, aka Dove. Lol, I planned to name her Peach, but I somehow named her Peaches at birth. Not quite sure what happened. I see a lot of Dove in her, but since Dove has the brownish hazel with a hint of yellow eyes it kinda throws me off! She has Aqua's brown eyes!

Well, this is my current heir (Number 6!). My mistake there are only six generations, unless you include Chris and Zelda. She is practically going to be a child forever, since my computer doesn't enjoy running the HUGE file. I wish I had toddler pics of her! She is absolutely beautiful! Anyways, this is Cotton Candy. She's kinda dressed in a little bit of everything and her clothes are rather..busy. hehe. She has brown eyes, and that very historic Thornton Wolff black hair with greyish-white tips (which are barely visible with this hairstyle), like Bubblegum and Forest.

So, do you think Dove's child/ children will look somewhat like Cotton Candy? Its quite possible with Leanna and Marcos' dark hair! I know you didn't really ask to see everybody, but I've been dying to share on the forum!  :)

Wow.  That's amazing!  I really would think Violet and Taffy are the same Sim!  I think their skin color is slightly different and that's all I can see.  It looks like Violet got Zelda's skin color and Taffy got Christopher's.  If Dove marries Chase, I doubt their kids would look much like Cotton Candy.  But like you said, with Dove's father and grandparents having black hair, it could happen.  Thanks for sharing your Sims.  :)

Violet really does look a lot like Taffy  :o

As for getting attached I've grown fond of some of my sims but only really overly attached to my self sims husband, Dallas Shallow, weird thing is I didn't really want her to marry him but it's what she wanted so I let her, I still wasn't overly keen on him when they first married although I must say I have never seen two such autonomously romantic sims.

My opinion changed after she accidentally drowned leaving him to look after a teen, a child and a toddler on his own until I could bring her back, this was before all the shortcuts we have now for resurrecting ghosts, my only option then was the oh my ghost op and ambrosia and nobody had the skills to make it.

He amazed me though and turned out to be the best dad ever, and boy did he grieve for her, even after the moodlet went he still kept mourning at her grave of his own accord, it totally changed how I felt about him, he'd gone from being this evil person I didn't really want to this amazing father and devoted husband who I now can't play without, other sims bore me too fast, they are now my main couple whenever possible.

I try to play townies in a new expansion, but I get quickly bored and end up grabbing a Dreamweaver to explore everything.

This is what I do with my self sim and Dallas, first time I get a new world or expansion those two get a new game to go try it all out, I can honestly say other sims outside of my self sims family just aren't as much fun for me, although I have a few sims I made I keep as standbys for challenges when those two aren't suitable.

Generation seven has just been born in my immortal dynasty, I can definitely see myself saving my immortals to the bin like you have your Dreamweavers Pam, I'll miss those guys when it's over.

Getting attached to characters is pretty common for writers, because they are your creations and they live their lives because of you. I know not every simmer here makes stories of their sims lives, but as you play your sims it's kind of the same. You create them and you control their lives. What's even more fun about sims is that they have a free will, so that makes it exiting as you never know what your sim might want now. With sims 3 now they also have very clear personalities which is even more fun! So no you're not crazy at all. I've been a writer for over 10 years and all characters that I created for long stories I wrote (or want to write) all have a special place in my heart and head. Sometimes I think I have a multiple personality disorder because I can have very realistic conversations with my own characters in my head.

Now with sims I always played sims 2 and had this pattern of raising a kid and then moving out with the kid once it was an adult to start a new life so I never really got attached to particular sims since I never played the same sim for a long time. But now only a few days ago I started a sim story in sims 3 and I already love her more than any of the other sims I played. Especially because of the story her sims life almost seems like it got a real meaning! I'm always deadly curious to see how other sims interact with her and I can already 'feel' what she 'feels'. Especially her exitement when she's with Thornton Wolff, who just keeps chasing her ;). I know for sure that this attachment I'm starting to have with her is only gonna get worse as the story continues!

Your very welcome. :)
That is the only way I tell them apart. I can't wait to see Dove's children! Maybe I'll see a Cotton Candy in them, but then, Chase would put a beautiful twist on the tree with his handsome looks.  ;)

I normally don't get too attached to sims, because my computer ends up corrupting the game files randomly. However, this alien baby that my sim had is just so amazing. I keep backing up my save file in case the main one becomes corrupted because I want to play this kid as he grows up. I've always been more attached to alien sims than normal ones for some reason, even back when I first started playing.

Also, I almost always play with aging off because I just hate the idea of any of my characters dying.

This is a problem I am having. I have played little enough of this game to date that I am still working on my original family, and the original adults are still alive. The pair I have turned into a married young adult couple is immortal. I slowed down aging considerably to give myself time to get the required LHP for age freeze while they were still teens. The parents are now at the mercy of the games decision system, and I expect Adams younger sister who moved in with him will be the same. I like her, but I think I need a little change in my family or I am going to get bored even sooner.

I guess, right now I want to experience pretty much my entire game, and I will do it mostly with just this pair, because I find that easier to deal with. Even if/when I am bored of them, I will keep them around. They aren't dying on my watch.
