I'll make no guarantee that I spelled their last name the way it is in the game. Mind like a sieve. :D
I checked it up on Sims wikia and it is spelled "Racket" in English. I thought so, because there we have another pun on illegal stuff.

Sure you don't mean Riverview?

Well this is weird! I have a maid by that name in Sunset Valley!

I do love that EA (or The Sims 3 Team) had been created enough with the NPC and townie names in general. I've just come across some NPC puns in Twinbrook over the weekend and LOL'd over it:

Repo Man: Ree Treave (retrieve)
Repair Man: Andy Plumber (handy plumber)
Fireman: Matt Schtick (matchstick)
Maid: Anne T. Septik (antiseptic) ;D

Grady Elfman was in SV also.  He sure made some pretty kids.  I have him in another game too.  I play him quite a bit.

If I remember right, there's a Lolly Racket, which sounds like a pun on some expression I've heard before. Hey, has anyone noticed the Single Mom's last names? One is 'French', and the other is 'McIrish'.  ;) Both have to do with european countries, and I think that both mothers have names that origonate from the other's country name. I belive Molly is a Irish name, and Fiona is French, but I will check for certain.

Edit: I'm wrong. Fiona is Irish, and Molly is English, in origin.

He's alive in Sunset Valley, but has a grave in Riverview.  I've never seen the ghost, though.

I guess that shows I don't play much in Riverview! The only time I had seen that name was in SV!

Can we therefore maybe assume that there is a time period difference between those different towns? That in this case Sunset Valley is put sooner in time before Riverview?

Imaginations could really run wild in trying to piece together certain sims and events in time.  I mean look at the Curious family.  At first we thought they were some relation to the Curious family in sims2, but it has have been many years if that is the case and all of the other names that we see.  Possibilities are endless, that is why this game is so addictive, it is never ending, to say the least.

Never ending you've said... That is true. But it could be just me taking this too serious, but if this game has a certain time period which EA only gives us pieces of information, then I believe the period sims live in are going to be a little bit like the medieval time period: 1000 years of technological freezing. In real life, the best inventions were made before and after the medieval period. The same counts for The Sims, it even could go in reverse: in The Sims 3, which takes place 50 years before The Sims 1 sims have cars. In the Sims 1 they do not. But The Sims 1 was made in 1999 and the best computer a sim could by with the vanilla Sims was one with a flat screen and a harddrive with 1TB, which is something that was new 10 years later than that.
But maybe I am indeed taking this too serious.

No, you may have something, Leto. I remember some kids who would always play Sims at my day care when I was a kid, and I especially remember the gritty versions of the Goths. I do wonder, though, why don't they try to set up a timeline for us to reference? Still, though, at least it's not like the Warcraft sort of confusion...

Anyway, I was curious, do the names and people change in the base 'bin families' you guys have? Like the Funkes, or the Roomies?

Bin families are all the same in each of our games when we all first start a game file to play.  Only the families you create after that are different from say mine.  :)

What amazes me the most, is that I thought all discs were the same, so, of course, we all have the standard families, Goths, Steele, Landgraab, but then, you get new people that come in and they have different names in every saved game and no one elses is the same.  My sister and I talk on speaker phone while we play sims3, I know, but we live so far apart, and I will mention a name and she has never heard of and the other way around.  I guess what I am getting to, is how is that done, when I assume it is all the same disc.  It just boggles the mind.

@Saltypaws:  I'm not a programmer, but I think it's probably some kind of random generator for the new families that move to town.  The game could be programmed to produce almost an infinite number of names and traits randomly.

I figured it was something like that, but it is still so neat as to how that is done.  I would imagine you could go as far in this game as it would let you.  Pam, didn't you lose a big generation family?  Makes you wonder how far a person could go, possibilities are endless.  I know this is drifting off topic, but it was just interesting.
