Career and Self-Employed Contiguously?

So, can you have a career and be registered as self-employed at the same time? One of my Randoms has hit her LTW, and will now have a lot of time on her wee, pixilated hands. So can I have her register herself as a sculptor (for instance) and still keep her 'day job' or does she have to quit her career before she can start a registered self-employed job?
