The Sims 3 Vs. The Sims 3 Pets On Console (differences?)
« on: July 22, 2013, 12:17:39 PM »
Hi everyone. :)

Well, I have The Sims 3 Pets for PS3.  I've never played The Sims 3 on console, not sure if it ever made it there.  Are there any differences, besides The Sims 3 having pets?  I know the PC version has more than the console version.  I was thinking on getting The Sims 3 for something different, but if they are not much different I probably won't bother.

This is a good question. (yeah, me again. I feel like I'm becoming a pest :p ). The only reason I got the pets version is because the store I went to didn't have the non pets version. I have seen it on PS3 although not for ages. I like the pets one but wouldn't mind playing without feeling like I need at least one pet all the time so I might still buy the normal one if I can find it. Might take a while before I do but I wouldn't mind telling you the differences and such if you're still interested :)

Thanks. :)  You don't have to have a pet though every time you create sims.  Sometimes it's nice to take a break.  The only part I don't like about pets is that every time you go to town your pet follows you there and when you tell them to "go home" they come back to where your sim is.  I get that pets do that but it's annoying.

That's true. My family at the moment don't have a pet. They can be annoying. It is nice to not have little stalkers following you everywhere LOL. And most other households have pets so you can just go play with them if you miss having one.

The Sims 3 for the PS3 was my first introduction to the Sims I enjoyed it so I bought Pets for the PS3 when it came out. I had fun with that too, but I agree, the pets (even the neighbor's) can get annoying. My daughter got her first job after law school and took her PS3 with her. It was a sad day. I only used it for the Sims and the Fallout games (yes, a woman in her 60's can enjoy Fallout 3) so I decided to get the Sims for my pc instead, and I like it better. There's more to do and no loading screens. I haven't had any save freezes like on the PS3 and I've played 12 generations of one family. I could never get past 4 on the PS3. So, yes, there are differences. Reading this site can give you a really good idea of what they are. The PS3 version of The Sims 3 will always hold a special place in my heart.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with playing the PS3 at any age hehe, that's awesome :) So the PC version sounds a lot smoother than PS3 for sure. Is that what you were talking about Grim Reaper? Changing to the PC version? I might have gotten confused which isn't hard for me haha. If so, well there's lots of things you can do that you can't on PS3 which I'm sure you already know :) The no loading screens sounds pretty good..and no freezing too! (my game just froze on me..during game play if you can believe it). Although I like the hints you get at the bottom of loading screens..sometimes it reminds me of something one of my sims needs to do LOL.
I have the PC version but I haven't played it 'cause my DVD drive is broken..awesome stuff right there ;p But I'm definitely more of a Playstation fan and will most likely prefer that version of any Sims game, if I get it working on my computer I'll report back on that too LOL..if you like? Any chance to play The Sims and talk about it is alright with me ;p

I wasn't interested in switching to PC.  I firstly wanted to know if The Sims 3 went to the PS3 and if so, how is it different from The Sims 3 Pets for PS3--obviously besides there being no pets on The Sims 3. :)  I wanted to know if they had different things like hairstyles, clothing, furniture, etc.

As I recall, there's more karma options with pets and it seems like at midnight I got hit with more bad stuff with the Sims 3. With pets there are those missions you go on with the dog, cat and by yourself (I don't remember what they're called - mysteries?). There's nothing like that in the Sims 3. Of course, they're played in different towns so if you can get the Sims 3 cheap, and at this point you should be able to, it might be worth it just for that. Mainly they added more with Pets so regular Sims might seem sort of dull, but you don't have to deal with those pesky pets. One reason to get it though, more trophies!

Oh oh! More trophies? Yes please! And more karma options? Why didn't I put more effort into finding this game? I'm sold ;) Yeah, the mysteries :) I couldn't finish the dog one but with the cat one you get to unlock Goth Manor..that's my favourite house :) so different towns..does that mean different families at the start too? Is there less freezing by any chance? I'm definitely going on the hunt today then..as soon as my partner gets up I'm dragging him out shopping (I'm from Australia so it's early in the morning here) :) He'll be impressed that I'm trying to find more Sims games...not! ;p
On a side note..wasn't Pets a limited edition for PS3? I think that's what it says on mine anyway..I have no doubt you'll find it if you decide you want it (the plain version that is) :)

Well I bought it..managed to find it second hand and cheap :) so there's no different clothes or hair and in the furniture there's actually less options..haven't tried building yet so I don't know about windows and wallpaper and all that and I'm also unsure of patterns..traits are the same, jobs, for the most part are the same. There's a bakery I noticed vaguely, I imagine you can get a part time job there. And I assume there's other places that aren't in Pets. The town (as KRae mentioned) is totally different, as are the families. What else...? Hmm, oh, the mysteries thing-yeah, the normal version doesn't have those. And, obviously no pets. It has a different feel to it than Pets..for some reason it reminded me strongly of The Sims 2 on PS2..but with Pets I never thought of previous versions..not sure if it's just me though LOL. It seems a bit smoother but that could be 'cause my sims' house isn't over crowded with junk just yet haha. Oh, there's a nice looking villa on the beach if you're into that sort of stuff.. So there you go. It's enjoyable and is good if you want a break from the kitties and puppies. Oh and I haven't seen any hauntings, but the game does mention ghosts so I imagine they're in there somewhere :) I hope I was specific enough for you to make a decision, if you wanna know anything else let me know :)

Mine also says limited edition.  It had a code you can use online for your PS3 to get specially designed pets, like have a cat that looks like a skunk or something like that.  But, my PS3 doesn't have internet connection so that's basically useless for me.  But, the game was $20 and was probably around $60 when it first came out so I win.  ;D

Thanks very much for your review.  It was helpful. :)  I may get it for something different.  The only annoying thing I don't like in pets is the random dogs that come and dig in your yard.  I try to build a fence around my yard in a way that nobody can go in my yard unless they are invited or a sim lives there but after some time it gets annoying.
