Basic Sims 3-Writing career?
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:00:42 AM »
I couldnt find a topic on this, so I figured I'd make one. In the basic version of Sims 3, is there a actual career for writing? I could not find a option at City Hall for it, nor on the computer. Was that a feature in Ambitions I never realized was never there before? Or is it just harder to find?

I'm pretty sure in the vanilla game you could write via the computer. But it wasn't a career as such until Ambitions, which added the ability to be self employed.

Writing is a self-employed career from Ambitions but there was no career for it in the 'Vanilla' Game.

Okay, I didn't know that, thanks.  :-[ I miss that, but this is my mother's computer, and she only has base sims installed.

Journalism works well with the Writing skill in the base game. You can build the skill at work, it's a requirement to advance in the career, and you write articles also for the job. It's a great start before you start busting out novels at higher skill levels. You can join the Journalism career at the same place you go for the Business career... I just can't remember the name of the tower.

You can still work at being a writer even if there is no official career for it without Ambitions.  I had several work-from-home writers with just my base game.  There are two LTW's you can pick to go along with it, Illustrious Author or Professional Writer.  Illustrious Author requires you to max out both the writing and painting skills (which is great for writing children's books) and Professional Writer you have to write enough books to get a weekly payment of $5,000.

Master of the Arts is to max out painting and writing I think (There are two Master of the Arts type LTW but one for painting and Guitar but not sure which), Illustrious Author is for $4,000 a week, normally I wouldn't know that but Jerry Character is now one, and I never choose those!  ;)

I think your sim must have the Professional Author (or Writer, I can't quite remember the wording).  I currently have an Illustrious Author and it's to have painting and writing maxed.

Master of the Arts is for guitar and painting.
