My only thought is those arches, the heart shaped one I'm not so keen on, looks a little like you just put it there because you could sort of thing. The other one makes sense but it might look better to be recoloured to the same or similar as the wall/fence.

You are right about that one Thomas :P The arch on eating area is matched to the tables, I think I'll change the fence, it looks too "cold" in my opinion, will have to find somthing about the heart shaped one :)

So here are my Sims 3 attempts... I wasn't quite sure what you meant by the 'English Garden' so I assumed these:

Formal:

Normal:

For the normal Garden I copied what most gardens are in England, Wild. Well that is what the owners will tell you!  :D

Anyone have any questions just post or if you want to share an opinion or your own Gardening style, or get some help with a space just say!  ;)

You rock out on building and landscaping!

I've looked for information on beginning pond building but couldn't find anything. I may be looking in the wrong place but I'm not sure.

I have trouble with the getting the water levels just right and getting them to look natural. If any of the talented landscapers/builders could lend me a hand I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if this is not the right place for this question, please move it to the appropriate section.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Regards,
Sarah

Sarah, what I do is first have an idea in my head what shape I want the pond to be.  Kidney shape is often a good one but really it can be any shape, square, round in the form of a letter or whatever.  Also, decide how large you want it.  Are you building it first, or after the house is built?  If after, check to make sure once you start your pond you will have at least one square of lot on the outside of the lot.  Don't bring your water all the way to outside of the lot as it will square off and look strange.

Now you have all that in mind, use the smallest water tool on a soft setting.  This way you don't eat into the ground too quickly or deeply.  You can always go back and make your pond deeper once you have the basic shape.  I will often do just a small amount to get the general shape in my head, and will then add landscaping before finishing the pond itself.  That way, things like cattails will sink down into the water some looking very realistic.  Just eat away, a small bit at a time.  Remember, the undo button is your friend! To finish off my pond I often line the sides with river rock, (I dislike a muddy look), or stone spray terrain, and then lightly dust more spray terrain using the flowers for a naturalized look.  You can add different fountain items to your pond as well.
I often use one of small sprays placed among rocks to look like water is just pouring into the pond keeping it fresh.  A weeping willow also looks nice by a pond.

What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

You sort of goofed up there. You included your text in the quote.

Also, feel free to request a home by PMing me! Always happy to help.

Hey guys I'm taking an extended hiatus... again. I'm out of ideas to build houses and I don't have as much fun designing homes like I used to; it feels more like a chore. So that's where I'll be, I will probably be back sometime. :P

Thanks so much for the reply Joria. That is exactly what I was looking for.  I think I was too heavy handed in my designs. The sides would be too high and the water level too low.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer with such helpful tips. It is much appreciated.

Sarah

I'm pretty sure this is the right thread to post this question in.  I'm looking to be a community lot that will act as a farm.  I'm looking to modify the large equestrian center so I can put crops in one area, surrounded by fences of course. My question is, using buy-debug to access the crops, and place them, will they be fully grown and ready for harvest in a few days, or will they start as seeds and my Sims need to tend them, or will they start as seeds and grow on their own?

Plants from BuyDebug come fully grown, sometimes they have Fruits/Vegs visibly as you place them and sometimes they don't and you have to wait. You don't have to tend plants on a community lot, or water them. If you want ones with harvestables on straight away keep placing/deleting the blank ones until a ready harvestable one turns up. I do that with Life Fruits.  ;)

There is one tiny problem with fences and garden - I couldn't find the way to lock the gate for pets on community lot. However, they can't climb up the stairs and my solution is find here.
