We're Coming to Collect
« on: July 16, 2013, 03:37:22 PM »
We’re Coming to Collect

GOAL:
As the name implies, this challenge is all about collections and trying to get 100% of the 8 different types of items in the Collection Journal. We’re tossing in the Unique Plants Planted and Fish Types Caught stats as well for those of you who can’t get enough of the great outdoors.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim (must be normal “human”  life state).
  • Changing life states after going to Live mode is banned.
  • No pets allowed and no household additions.
  • You will need to get at least one skill point in Fishing and Gardening to track the stats needed for scoring.
  • You are allowed no more than 9 days vacation.
  • No University time allowed.
  • No consignment purchases. (Normal & Elixir)
  • Grocery store and world market purchases are restricted to non collectible items.
  • No use of Group Science Project from the Science Skill.
  • No transfiguration.
  • This challenge concludes at the end of 4 weeks (Week 4, Day 7, 11:59 PM).

Scoring

When the game clock reads Week 4, Day 7, 11:59 PM pause your game and press J to open your Skill Journal. Click the butterfly icon and note the 8 different percentage statistics and simply add them up. You’ll also need to open up your Gardening tab for the Unique Plants Planted statistic and the Fishing tab for the Fish Types Caught statistic.

The second part of your score is the Collection Multiplier. Everyone starts with a CM of 1.00 and for any Collection Challenge that is completed, add 10% (.10) to the multiplier.

Total — simply add up the 8 different percentage statistics from the Collection tab as well as the Fishing and Gardening percentage stats and multiply that total by the CM for your final score.

This Event is Now Closed

Good luck to everyone!

This is just about my absolute nightmare challenge. I'd skip it but I need the participation points  :(

One question, when you say "Changing life states after going to Live mode is banned" does that mean that we can change the life state between creating a human and going into live mode?

No he's saying that you have to start human and stay human basically.  There is a glitch in CAS sometimes if you start out as a certain occult, even after you change the character and make them "normal" they retain their otherness and revert back to that in game.  A good example is vampires (especially saved ones from before Supernatural) and Imaginary Friends.

This sounds like my kind of challenge. I am obsessed with getting large gem cuts of every type of gem. I can't get large gem cuts here but I'll try to get every type of space rock! I have completed Gem Collector and Metal Collecter so many times in my Dynasty attempts that I'm a natural at it. I'll definitely be looking into participating in this, even though I'll have to tend needs, but it maybe a new experience to me! :)

I'll let you know that I have 100%'ed Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, so I am an expert at collecting junk. I'll be very busy planning for this challenge - considering that I can't be anything but a human will make it a bit challenging but I am not afraid to try. I did a psuedo run of the "My Garden of Eatin' is Fishy" and did pretty decently even if I couldn't enter the challenge.  ;D

One question: Do we have restrictions on where we start(empty lot or can we get a house) and how much money we start with?
I play The Sims 4 for fun, so I don't care if I never end up being interviewed for the Dynasty Hall of Fame; people who play for keeps burn out too easily and don't enjoy playing the games, so I am going to not sweat the details.

Unless the rules of the challenge specify differently, you can start with an empty lot or a house.  You have to start with the money the game gives you for one Sim, which is $16,500.  Any other amount would come from using a cheat, and all cheats are banned unless otherwise stated.

ooh, I haven't played too much lately, but since IP came out, I have been diving into the game so to speak and I love collecting. I may just have to participate in this one.

Thanks to Pam for that quick answer about the initial money and location. I have more questions:

EDIT: Sorry, I apologize for asking those questions, I almost DQ'd myself because I forgot those were strategy questions and you're not allowed to ask questions. Thanks ratchie, I owe you one.  :-[ Thanks to those who responded and I will PM Rica quietly about any future questions.  :-X

I've already fired up my game and started my first practice run. It's torture having to wait a month and not be allowed to do your challenge file until mid-August!!!  :o

EtnaFan, those both sound like strategy questions. Generally speaking, if it's not forbidden, you can do it. And if there's something specific that you're concerned about, PM Metro, Ricalynn, or ratchie.

Ya know, I've been bored of sims lately. Maybe all I need is a challenge like this one. No cheating I can handle with one sim (Thanks to Rica  ;D ). I'm going to try it now, I know it's not started, but I'm going to practice, and if I'm good at it, and even if not lol I think I'm going to participate in this one. The bottom of the leaderboards needs filled right?  8)

Do we count percentages from both amateur rock collector and awesomest rock collector?

They are challenges and don't have a percentage.. you either complete them or you don't. The percentage is on how many unique rocks you collect.

OK of course. I got confused as it says "add up the 8 different percentage statistics from the Collection tab" and there's eight challenges and I thought there were more percentage stats but they are actually numbers of spirits etc. that we don't have to record.

Can you sell the items you collect or do you have to have them on the lot by the end of the challenge?

You can do whatever you want with the items you collect — i.e. sell them. All that matters for scoring is opening up the skill journal and looking at the various stats at the end.
