Unfortunately, it didn't go quite the way I'd hoped, but after a month or two of my computer being out of commission, I'm just glad I was finally able to participate again. Looking forward to the elders challenge. Hope everyone's having fun. Thanks to the coordinators for another great challenge!

Bella Dunbar got 752 in the collection percentages, and completed 6 collection challenges for a total score of 1203.  I had a lot of trouble with my file with my fireflies getting reset to 0 when I went on vacation, as well as some butterflies not showing up.

I wasn't able to finish my file, but wanted to post what I was able to do.

I am looking forward to reading the strategy of the top scorers :)

Great job everyone that played and submitted a score.

For this challenge I cleaned my game probably, or to say it with other words, I uninstalled nearly all my expansion packs. Only things I kept was Supernatual, Showtime, Generations and Island Paradise. This way I removed a lot of the things I had to collect to get the full collections, but it was also with a great risk that I took this decision. Like for some of the skill challenges, I had to find 5 metals, but I only had 5 possible in the first place, so missing out on one single one, I would both get only 80% for that category, but also not be able to count the skill challenge.

So Scorpio Stars moved to Isla Paradiso, and it was the first time I have played this city, and to be honest I love it. So I researched, about the spawners in the city, and luckily there was a spawner for each of the very rare objects.
First of Scorpio was sent to the newly placed Alchemy Store, and lucky as I was he got both a Midas Touch and a Wish Enchancing Serum before noon the first day. That way his lifetimewish was completed in a breeze and he got a Motive Mobile and a Collection Helper.

I started with letting him run around and collect all the seeds he could, and taking all the other collectable on the way too. After planting all he found which was over 50 different seeds, I let him work on opening the two islands he needed with the special spawners. (No Trouble Atoll and Mermaids Secret Island) After that it was pretty much rinse repeat, check the special spawn spots as often as possible, else just collect everything I still needed and what else he came past just to clean the spawn spots.

With just 2 days left he finally got the Rainbow Beetle. Which made this a fully completed challenge. I now know that choosing not to have all expansion in was a good idea, really made it less complicated than it could have been.

Great score, Lena! You make it sound easy, but I know it was hard work.

I played in Isla Paradiso, too. The only thing I'd add is that I bought the LLAMA to cut down on transportation time. B.H. Komer was turned into a tragic clown the first time she used it, but luckily that wore off.

I had a funny feeling it had something to do with expansions, I'd worked out that with all of them installed top score just wasn't possible in a single town, mostly because of exclusive late night and island paradise collectables, I thought maybe you didn't have island paradise installed didn't dream it was others you left out.

Anyway here's what I did and learnt about things.

All the talk in the 4x4 dynasty workbench got me curious about certain collectables and sent me investigating Bridgeport, which is where I chose to play this challenge, only the late night insects are Bridgeport exclusive, the metals and gems can be found through other sources if necessary such as sculpting, dumpster diving and martial arts.

Will-o-wisps have five spawn spots and appear during the day now instead of night, after they spawn they hang about for around four hours before vanishing so you have to be quick to catch them.

I used tab to get a good map view shot of the whole city and suburbs then I marked where to find stuff, it wasn't totally accurate so I wont post my maps as they might be misleading but I just quickly made two shots of where the hard to find insects are.

City
Suburbs

Termites pretty much spawn around all the high rise buildings so aren't too hard to find, spiders also spawn down by the cabin near the bridge and behind the butterfly dome. The rainbows tended to spawn at weekends, the beetle one also spawns a light beetle but I would collect that then fish in the pond until it spawned again, it was about every two hours maybe, until I got the one I wanted, the park spawners were like that too so if it isn't the one you wanted it was still worth collecting as the next one spawned might be.

Island paradise was the ep that messed up my stats most, there are 8 fish only available through diving and you can only get 3 of the shells from snorkelling, so those were out, I missed the Cleopatra butterfly as it didn't spawn and I never found any plutonium, I know it spawns behind the criminal warehouse and the science lab but it never did and I didn't find any in China either, you can get compendium and supernovium through sculpting but it's rare and I didn't get any.

During my test I discovered Bridgeport doesn't spawn blue and red fireflies for some reason, they should come from medium butterfly spawners but they weren't, the one in the fae ray gardens does spawn them though so I got them that way.

I definitely think this is a challenge where less is actually more and Lena's strategy proved that, the more ep's you have the harder it is to get the top score, was great fun though and possibly the most research I've ever done for a challenge so far, I normally just wing it  ;D

Congrats on a perfect score Lena - very well played! I kept Supernatural, Showtime, Generations and WA; I don't have Island Paradise and kept WA as I didn't take the risk you mentioned (I was concerned about not finding plutonium; as you rightly said this would remove 20 points and a .1 multiplier increment too). In hindsight it would probably have been a good idea. :)

To cope with WA's gems, I purchased the board-breaker in China, which allowed me to collect 100% of the gems quite easily after burning some time. The martial arts skill would also be needed to grab the grapes on the little island in France (with zeneport).

Out of interest, how did you do the Omni Plant challenge? I couldn't figure out how to find a steak to plant. Or do the unknown rare seeds include steak plants once you've unlocked them?

Hi, everyone! :)

Like Lena, I had my eyes set on a maximum score for this challenge. But after extensive testing and full comprehension of the amended rules, I had to abandon that idea.

A score of 100% in the plant category seemed impossible. This would require planting a steak and a burger patty which are only available from the store. Only after harvesting these, there could be access to the omnificent plant. This meant three plants down.

I had the horrible feeling that the glow orb mushroom might be another obstacle to maxing the plant category. It could not be bought from the elixir shop, and I had never ever seen one in the wild.
It can be harvested from the Goodfellow garden in Moonlight Falls. However, playing the challenge in that world would seriously jeopardise maxing the seashell and fish categories.

It's one thing to think you may not find a certain item and another to know it. Initially, I tested only in Isla Paradiso. For this test, I used the 'discover all islands cheat' and ran the test for 40 Sim weeks which is ten times longer than the duration of this challenge. I cleared every single seed and mushroom 24/7 to allow for maximum spawning. I came up with nothing and repeated this procedure twice with new files, just to make sure... still nothing.
This annoyed me no end, and I could have saved myself a lot of time by calling it a day just there and then. But no, too OCD to accept a simple fact, I then wanted to check other worlds as well. Sunset Valley, Bridgeport, Appaloosa Plains - I even checked Moonlight Falls itself. I spent 40 frustrating Sim weeks in all of these worlds and never found one single glow orb mushroom growing in the wild.

At the time, I was convinced this plant could not be found in the wild. Now, of course, I must ask myself whether this has anything to do with my computer or even the EP packs I downloaded. I can't imagine it being a glitch repeating itself over and over.

So, just for the record. I'd really like to know where glow orbs were find in the wild. And more than that, I'm dying to find out how Lena maxed the plant category as a whole!

In further testing, I was able to find everything else needed, except for the Will-O-Wisps, the termite and spider. I also noted that the Plasma Bug did not register, much like gems obtained from mining do not register.

I decided to uninstall Late Night.
I also uninstalled World Adventures. This pained me, because it brought my highest possible plant score down from a very attainable 94% to 88%. Yet, it seemed a fair exchange for the hassle of finding supernovium and compendium.
And in the end, I decided to live without University Life as well. I did not know at the time, that a player would be allowed to count the plasma bug. It simply does not register, much like mined gems won't register. However, you can clone mined gems, put them on the ground and then collect them. Unfortunately, this doesn't work for insects.  As I saw it, it would bring down the highest possible % for the beetle category  to 91%. It had to go.

I did not buy a board-breaker or a miner. These items lead to collectibles and in a PM I was told that they could not be purchased. Mad Hopper read inventing books until level 8 and invented her own miner. She dug a multiple adventure hole on the first try and jumped it incessantly for about 36 hours. That was enough to find plutonium (which annihilated the need for maxing diving) and all the space rocks for both space rock challenges, as well as most seeds.

Mad Hopper found woohooium, fluorite and the elusive pink diamond from sculpting.

Island Paradiso was a revelation to me. I actually scored 103% in the fish department, which felt as a huge bonus at the time. And the discovery that I could score 100% in seashells was' to say the least,  elating!

The seashell category, I must admit, confused me for the longest of times. I still don't know quite how it works. But my score went up when I found the Extraordinarily Unusual Message in a Bottle at Port Pepper. It then increased when I found a ordinary bottle through cave exploration. And it maxed, when I found a Piece of Map in a bottle, also in an underwater cave.
In testing, I found the seashell % also increased after finding 5 ordinary message bottles on the seabed. Maybe, there are other methods still to max the seashell category?

I took two very strange photographs during this challenge. One is of a stingray-type fish on the ocean bed and another is of a red lobster-like creature near the shoreline. I tried to upload these pics, but failed miserably. Maybe later...

EDIT TO ADD:

I forgot to say that Mad Hopper found Refuge Island via the Resort Adventure. Ninja starfish can be found at Plumbob Island which she already had. But this island was important for the trilobite beetle as well. That beetle can also be found on Mermaid's Secret, but securing Refuge Island felt simple, safe and less time consuming. :)

I couldn't figure out how to find a steak to plant either  :(  Would love to know how you manage it.

Sunset Valley, Bridgeport, Appaloosa Plains - I even checked Moonlight Falls itself. I spend 40 frustrating Sim weeks in all of these worlds and never found one single glow orb mushroom growing in the wild.

That is quite weird.  I'm playing my dynasty challenge in Sunset Valley now, and I see glow orbs in the wild, it is by the big equestrian place (landgraab / alto) neighbor.

I played in Isla Paradiso as well and although I have nothing to add to what was done I did find the glow orb mushroom in the wild. Sadly I don't remember where. I just went around collecting everything all the time not really paying to much attention at first where I was finding the good stuff. About half through I started to take note of this but by then I wasn't looking for mushrooms so didn't pay attention to that! I didn't unlock any of the islands that seemed like too much trouble instead I went for the LTR which I thought would unlock all of them but to my surprise it only unlocked one and that didn't help me at all. So I just ditched the island idea all together. I can see now that was a mistake as I could have done much better. I couldn't find the porcinis mushroom though. And I didn't find a banana seed or tree for that matter!

Glow orbs were a mystery to me at first as well, in my test I never found one so I went and googled it and it turns out they only spawn during a full moon and I had that turned off, so in my actual file I had it rotating every 4 days and found one on the very last full moon which was friday of week four, with hindsight I would have put it on a quicker rotation or permanent as that was cutting it a bit fine, the zombies didn't really give me any trouble and I fenced my garden off.

As for where to find them they pop up anywhere there is a seed spawner, I think there's a 15% chance or something for a mushroom instead of a seed to spawn so I made sure to clear them all before a full moon hoping it would appear.

I also got every plant apart from the omni plant chain, every seed I collected got planted and I got lucky enough to find everything, especially with having Uni as well, there's a lot of extra plants with that ep.
