Washing machine?
« on: July 15, 2013, 10:24:51 PM »
Hi all,

My sim got a wish for a washing machine and thought it might be fun to buy one but can't find it at all listed in buy mode.  Just wondering if you need a certain EP for that.  I have Generations and Ambitions.

Thank you!  :)

Washers and dryers originally came with Ambitions. If you sort by room, they are grouped with the bathroom. If you sort by function, they are where the large appliances (fridges, stoves, etc.) are. :)

When you sort by room and look at bathroom, you should see an icon there which represents a laundry basket.  Click that and you'll see all the laundry items.  Once you put a washing machine on the lot, the sims will start dropping their dirty clothes when they change unless you have a laundry basket in the room with them.  Just so you know.

You also have to have an enclosed room I think. If you live outside I don't think they drop clothes.

If outside, they do not drop their clothes, anywhere inside and they do, so you need a laundry basket in the gym area and bedroom as well as the bathroom.  They also drop their clothes anywhere else in the house when they change for work.  Most annoying.  Either ensure they take a shower in the hour or so prior to their leaving for work, or, drag the pile manually into a bin.  Personally, I avoid the washing machine wish.

You can also drag the clothes to the sell square in your Sim's personal inventory if you don't feel like messing with it.

Hi everyone,

Yes, I noticed that about the dirty laundry.  What a pain that is, before I realized I needed a hamper (duh! lol) everyone was dropping dirty clothes all over the house, even the maid.  Now I got a hamper so I'll see how that works out, unless it gets out of hand, I'll just sell both washer and dryer.

Will the maid automatically do the laundry now that I got a hamper or does my sim still need to do it manually?
Thanks :)

I usually don't hire maids because they are so unreliable and lazy. Bonehilda definitely doesn't do laundry. However, I always get a washer and a dryer because the clean clothing gives a nice moodlet.

My maid (services one) definitely does the laundry.  BTW, if your Sim gets the wish to Do Laundry, the part that fulfills that wish is when they get the clean laundry from the dryer or clothes line.  So having the maid start the laundry works well.  Your Sim can finish it later for the wish.  I love the whole laundry thing.  Very realistic.  With my family of 8, they are doing the laundry every other day, generally.  If not the mom, then one of the teens does it.  I have baskets in each bedroom, bathroom, exercise room and one for the foyer/living room (with Seasons, when they change clothes into or out of outdoor clothes in the house, it drops laundry - I do find that annoying because, technically, you're just putting on or taking off a coat.  I with they'd used the coat rack like they did in Sims 2).

How do you take laundry to the laundromat? Do you put it in the inventory? I thought it'd be a good way to socialize while killing time?

Yes, I'd like to know how to take laundry to the laundromat too.  I didn't even know there was a laundromat in town lol

Do all the towns have one?

Thanks :)

You don't need to have laundry in your inventory to use the laundromat - since the laundromat is mostly for sims who don't have washing machines (and therefore have no piles of washing) in their homes. All you need to do is go to the laundromat and click on the washing machine - it'll give you the option to do your washing. If you're playing in Twinbrook the laundromat is automatically there, but I think you'll need to go into Edit Town to place one in other towns.

The problem is that lately I've noticed that they drop their dirty laundry on the floor even though I have bought two hampers for each room. It's especially bad in the University World. I don't know whether this is a bug, or what's happened. Before they never left anything on the floor, if they had hampers. Have any of you noticed this change, or is it just my sims that are extra messy somehow? Maybe it's got something to do with that rebel social group things that came with University life? Rebels aren't known for being very neat and tidy, are they? :)

I doubt it. Usually this only happens when you have a washing machine in your home and you either don't have hampers or the hampers are full. Also, sometimes they change from every day to career or something in a room without a hamper - that also leaves the clothes behind. It's also recommended to get a hamper for the workout area if you have one in your Sim house.

That's exactly how it's been all the time before, but since I installed University Life it has changed, and I don't know why, if it's a bug or intentional.

Another thing that happened the other day, when one of my teenage sims were on an outing to the police station, was that she was sick from eating jail food. I've never seen that happening before either, so it must be something new. I only hope she managed to find a toilet in time if she had to throw up, the poor little thing.
