Problems accessing lots placed in the middle of the sea
« on: July 14, 2013, 09:21:29 PM »
So I plopped down a lot on the sea in SV like this:

The problem is my sim can't go there by boat. He can take a boat near there and hop on the water and swim to lot but not take a boat there. He also needs to swim first to go away from the lot. Is this a glitch or a feature or just my game? The lot type doesn't seem to matter, my game does this for residential lots and community lots.

I've been building a resort in IP that is an island (Beryl Shoals) hoping to place it in different worlds. I placed it in SV and it does have exactly the same problem as my residential lot, sims can't go there by boat without swimming. I don't know how it happened but there are stuck townies in the resort that are forever trying to get out of there. The resort itself works well.

Maybe it's because the beaches are a bit too steep? Have you tried making them more flat/shallow near the waterline?

Have you tried putting your lot on foundation, the pier ones?  Have you tried making "steps" of different levels of terrain?  Have you tried having one of those post things where you can tie up a boat or use it to buy a vehicle?
What?  Grannies can't play games?

Yes I tried that, it does not work.

I've tried lowering the terrain yes. Mooring posts does not help, the boat won't go to them. Not sure what you mean by placing the lot on foundation, I tried sinking the terrain all the way down by making a dive lot first and then changing it to residential and building foundation there but that made it even worse, my sim couldn't boat or swim there.

I placed a lot in the ocean in IP, not because there aren't enough islands, just because I wanted to see if I could. Anyway I placed the largest lot. Built a resort but I did have a couple of sims struggle to get from the water to the land. It was just down to bad placement in my part. Because I'd built the reception too close to the edge if the lot there wasn't enough room for them. I also had to move some plants & rocks from the edge too to allow easy access. Also have you checked your set as a resort in lot type? Silly question but its a mistake I've made more than once.

Good luck

Thanks Gingerkid, my resort is of resort type and works well in IP. It's SV where there are problems with the boats.  And yes, it is of resort type in SV as well. Not sure why boating would need more space in SV than IP but will knock down some things in SV and see if it helps. Glad you got it working in IP :)

Ok, I'll fool around with a lot in the water in SV today and see what I come up with.  Maybe I can figure something out for you.

EDIT:  Ok, I give up.  At least for now.  At first I couldn't even get my Sim anywhere near the lot I placed.  I think a pier might be needed but haven't tried that yet.  (This was standard SV with no other changes)  I finally got my Sim to boat out to the lot which took a lot of fiddling around.  I had to have her "boat here" in several stages before she even got close.  In order to get her up on the land she had to exit the boat and swim.  I tried leveling the ground with the terrain tool, making a sloping beach.  Boat woud not go there and again, it was get out, swim and then direct her up the slope to the lot.  I tried different levels of land with steps down almost to the water but it was still get out, swim, walk up.  I tried sinking the lot.  That didn't help either.  I'm stymied at the moment but will keep trying.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
