Congrats Luna dear!  Another Immortal... wow, moving right along Tia ^^  Hehehe, giggled quite a bit at your comment about the coats lol

Thanks, Shewolf!  Glad to keep you giggling!

Chapter Forty-Two - Snapshots

"Luna?" Erik called out, "why is the bathtub full of crocodiles?"

"Loki sent them for my birthday!  Aren't they adorable?"  Luna stuck her head in the bathroom.  "I can move them if you like."

"Yes, thank you," he sighed.

"I think she missed one!" Erik yelped, as something nibbled his toes.  Meanwhile, Luna's love of animals was infecting the rest of the family.

"I thought you hated snakes," Legolas remarked, setting up his piano on the front lawn.

"Usually, I do.  But Luna asked me to look after this one while she rounds up the rest of the crocodiles.  A couple got loose and are terrorizing the neighborhood."

"What's so special about that one, then?" the elf asked, launching into his Ray Charles impersonation.

"It's an orphan or something.  It's kind of growing on me."

Indy's birthday struck that night, frightening everyone.

"You look like a cotton swab with eyes," Legolas giggled, as Erik snickered behind his hand.

A quick trip to the mirror later and Indy was back to his old self.

Ready for adventure.

And Legolas was forced back into the elf hair, just on general principles.

The family headed off for graduation.  Jareth finally noticed something that had been going on for a while, and that could possibly upset his plans for Indy.  Mainly, Legolas and Erik had started hitting on everything wearing a skirt.

And this was the best grad photo taken of Indy.  The pride on Rusty's face was amazing.

Gytha met up with Sandi French, who'd come to everyone's graduation, being one of Gytha's best friends, always dropping by and calling to chat.

"You're lookin' good, my girl," Gytha told her.  "Still using that cream for the mange?"

"Worked like a charm, Gytha," Sandi replied.  "Can't thank you enough for that, the itching was driving me mad."

There was cake to celebrate, of course.

"I still don't understand how it manages to stay on fire, even though it's been in the fridge," Indy said.

"Oh, great," Jareth said, bringing in the mail.  "Gytha's received another grand piano for being famous.  Where are we going to put that one?"

"I could use it down at the Opera House, I mean, the theater," Erik said, working on a new concerto.  "The pulley system is almost ready."

Luna and Rusty spent all their time on dates.

Slightly unconventional dates, but they were together, and they were happy.

Indy got a late birthday present in the mail, anonymously.

It later turned out to be from Marion...

Dubstep got into the spirit of things.

And the moment that everyone dreaded but was waiting for nonetheless.

Death needed a few words with Jareth.

Note: The next update will be back to the regular story format.

Chapter Forty-Three - Can't Take The Sky From Me

Luna missed Rusty.  Not all the crocodiles or snorkwracks in the world could make up for his absence.  But she was on the phone with him back at the building almost every day.  Indy joined the education career and started to prepare for his adventures.

"Where's my whip?" he asked Jareth.

"Not family friendly," the Goblin King told him, shaking his head.  "No guns either."

"So I've got, what?" Indy asked in disbelief.  "Can I throw rocks?"

"There's all that Sim-fu you've been doin'," Gytha pointed out.  "Crack a lot of heads with that, plus there's that snake basket of yours."

"The snake only attacks me," Indy pointed out.

"You'll be just fine, Indy," Luna told him, giving him a hug.  "Now, let's get to the spring festival before you have to leave."

Jareth was instantly attracted by the eggs lying in the grass.

"Not quite the delicacy of my crystals, but not bad," he murmured.

Gytha and Legolas tore up the dance floor.

"Oh, no," Tia told the elf.  "You are not allowed outside without the glasses."

That night Indy left to catch his flight to China.  He called Jareth a few days later.

"How's the mysterious east?" Jareth asked him.

"Well, there was a small change in plans."  Indy said.  "I'm in France."

"What are you doing there?" Jareth asked him.

"He got lost, didn't he," Legolas said.  "I knew it!"

"Just a moment, I'm putting you on speaker," Jareth said, as the family gathered around.

"Are you alright, Indy?" Luna asked.

"I'm fine," he told her.  "There was a bit of a situation at the airport."

"I told you to claim the snake was a service animal." Erik interjected.

"It wasn't the snake, it was that Mutt kid," Indy said.  "Marion sent him.  Something about it being my turn to look after him."

Gytha rolled her eyes.  "Did ya give him the slip?" she asked.

Indy scoffed.  "Of course, but I ended up in France."

"That's not too bad." Jareth said.  "Where's the problem?"

"Oh, there's no problem," Indy said quickly.  "I ran into some friends."

"How are all you people getting to the Simverse?" Tia asked, exasperated.

"Anyway, Simon and Kaylee wanted to visit a few sights, but River wasn't quite up to it," Indy continued.  "So she and I hung out at the cafe for a while.  She's quite the girl."

"She's barking mad," Erik pointed out.

"Who isn't, around here," Tia muttered.

"Indiana, what are you trying to say?" Luna asked.  "Did you have a nice time?"

"We had a great time," Indy said.  "We went to the little island, did a little sparring, and then, well, we decided to get married.  She's looking for something to do while Simon and Kaylee have a bit of a honeymoon."

"You eloped?  How romantic!" Luna sighed.

"You eloped with River Tam?" Tia shrieked.

"Yeah, so we're on our way to China now.  Can you guys put in a dance floor while we're gone?"

So, I've been silently lurking all this time, but I just wanted to hop in here and say that not only have I been loving this dynasty, but yesterday I got curious about the webcomic you drew inspiration from - let's just say many hours were wasted (in a good way), and I'm still not caught up on Roommates. I don't understand all of the references yet (including Luna and River), but I'm sure I will at some point. I'm now especially curious who will be the last two to join the household, but knowing Jareth, may God/Allah/Buddha/Grilled Cheese have mercy on their souls (or whatever, depending on who joins).

ETA: Is it obvious I haven't finished reading the Harry Potter series or seeing the movies yet?  ::) I will get better acquainted with Luna and friends one of these days...I also googled River Tam, and the couple of times I watched Firefly I enjoyed it so perhaps that's another to add to the list. I finished reading Roommates through the latest panel though, so I have that going for me at least. :]

Quick question, is there anyone from the last 20 years of pop culture who WON'T be in this dynasty? :)

I'm so glad you like this, Smartburn, and I encourage everyone who is curious to check out the comics.  Girls Next Door is also fantastic (and very long) and things are getting pretty dramatic in the Roommates one right now.

Er, I don't think Mr Rogers or Sailor Moon will be showing up.  After that, well who knows? ;D

To everyone, I'm sorry again for the delay.

Chapter Forty-Four - The Elf's Lament

"LO! I sing, I sing of knowledge lost
When in the kitchen it was tossed!
That blessed tome of great renown
Where all our deeds were written down!"

"Not lost, misplaced," Tia corrected, waving the notebook.  "I found it under the oatmeal."

"And?" Jareth demanded, tapping his foot.

"I sort of deleted most of the pictures of Indy and River's adventures before moving them." Tia confessed, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Well, if that's all," Gytha started, but Indy interrupted her.

"All of it?"he asked, incredulously.  "The tombs in Egypt, the tournament in China, when River kicked all those mummies?  When I got Pangu's axe?"

"I've got one!" Tia shot back.  "See?"

"Very dramatic, that," Gytha said.  "You inspectin' that obviously hidden door.  Clever lad to find that."

"Can we just get on with it?" Jareth demanded, rubbing the bridge of his nose again.  Goblin Kings weren't supposed to get migraines, he was sure, but they were starting to become habitual with him.

"Right," Legolas told him.  "Go put a cold towel on your head.  I've got this."  The elf smiled.

"So after many adventures in foreign lands involving humble peasants, cursed undead that River kicked to death, screaming..."

"I thought they were Reavers," River interjected.  "I could have killed them with my brain."

"Of course, love, but let the elf tell this," Gytha said, as River's eyes began to cloud at the memory.

"And a lot of raiding of tombs for articles that we were told were going to 'belong in a museum', but somehow ended up on shelves in a certain adventurer's bedroom..." the elf went on, looking shifty-eyed at Indy.

"That's for the LTR," Indy pouted.

"We find ourselves in domestic quietude once more." Legolas ignored him.  "For LO!, Indy has undertaken the sadly neglected education of the children of this village, and River has decided upon a full time career in the culinary arts, albeit with time for her dancing."

"We need a new fridge,"  Erik pointed out.  "Jareth destroyed the last one."

"It was making the most horrible noise," Gytha said, in Jareth's defense.  "And it were smokin' and all."

"That's because Smaug was hiding behind it," Legolas said proudly.

"Not from you, though," Erik pointed out.  "Barney has been singing at him non-stop."

"And we need to do something about the goblins," Luna said, coming in from her swim.  "They've started watching horror tv, and I don't know if it's good for them."

"They live with Jareth, horror tv should be no problem for them," Legolas said sarcastically.

"And we're back," Tia muttered, smiling.

Thanks, Wolfie!  I miss this place, too!

Chapter Forty-Five- Waiting Games

"If I hear that you are all bored one more time, I'm going to do something drastic," Tia complained.

"That would at least be something, Minion," Jareth shot back.  "All this waiting is dreadful."

"Don't blame me," Indy protested, looking up from his book.  "River is a lot younger than I am."

"As I remember it, Dr Jones," Jareth said menacingly, raising an eyebrow, "you were supposed to find an older woman, as the elf did.  Preferably someone five or six days from elder."

"River's hot," Indy shrugged.  "And she's helped me with my supermax more than anyone."

"True, that," Tia conceded.

"Numbers are numbers, Jareth," Erik said, coming in.  "We have to be sure that Gen Seven has enough time to bear Gen Eight."

"Remember Rain?" Indy pointed out.  Jareth shuddered.

"Okay, we'll do it this way," Tia said soothingly.  "Once River tops the culinary career and gets the new fridge, she and Indy can have the baby."

"I just don't know about that girl," Gytha said, a few days later.

"What wrong with River?" Legolas asked, coming in from the archery range.

"I love her to death, but there's a whole lota crazy behind that smile," she said.  "You wouldn't believe what she gets up to at work."

"As long as she gets the fridge, that's the important thing." Tia said.

And that night, Grim dropped by.

Jareth very kindly put together a little memorial for Luna.

"Are you alright, my dear?" he asked gently.

"I'm going to miss her, but I hope she finally gets to wear her sunglasses again," Luna replied quietly.

"Would you like to go searching for some other creatures?  I have some free time."  Jareth's voice was a soft purr.

Luna shook her head.  "No, I think I'm going to spend some time with the Goblins here," she told him.

"Them's gnomes!" Gytha called in exasperation from the hall.

"Just little dwarf wannabees!" Legolas snarled.  "I'm punting them out of the greenhouse every other minute."

Luna turned to the Goblin King and smiled.  "I think they need someone to give them something to do, besides, you, Jareth.  I mean, you're always so busy and all..." she broke off.

"Thank you, my dear," Jareth said, pulling her into a hug.  "That's very thoughtful and kind."

Since Luna loved swimming...

...in chlorinated, non-mermaid infested, free of any other kind of critter, pools, that seemed the natural place for her to start with the Goblins.

Once Indy finished his meditation challenge and was done with the supermax, he also quit his job as District Superintendent.  Teaching made him absolutely miserable for some reason...Erik asked once, and the yelling could be heard at the other end of the house.  It was a good thing River was at work and didn't hear about the students painting "LOVE YOU" on their eyelids.

He went back to snake charming instead.

With Dubstep gone, Luna took to tearing around town on the Kenspa.

"Where are you off to, now?" Legolas called.

"To the craft store!  The Goblins need more glitter!"

Meanwhile, Jareth tried to sculpt River.

"That looks nothing like me, Goblin King," she told him.

"I'm trying!" he said, through gritted teeth.  "Are you melting the ice with your brain again?"

Leisure Day finally rolled around and every single person in the house started setting up for a pool party.  Erik elbowed everyone out of the way and started rocking the DJ booth, to Jareth's immense amusement.

Gytha got in a dance with her new sweetie from work, Jared Strong, while River wondered how long it would be before she could sneak off to bed.

Indy posed for a shot in his swim trunks, when something terrifying appeared behind him.

Legolas had found a twin!  And they had decided to dress alike, since it wasn't horrifying enough...

His name was Derek Banard and he and Legolas had become the best of friends.

The next day, Indy, tired of being bitten in the face all the time...

decided to take a new direction with his snake.

"Kaa?  Now listen to me, I understand your frustration.  You used to be a super bad guy, but then you got voiced by Winnie-the-Pooh.  That kind of trauma plays with your head, man, I get it.  But you have to stop taking it out on me."

"Or what?" the snake hissed, his eyes flickering dangerously.

"Or I let Barney out of the box." Indy said flatly.

"Besssstie!" Kaa said, as Indy kissed his head.

And then River brought the fridge home.

Aw, RIP Dubstep.  Poor Luna.  Indy and the snake are great XD

You know, I didn't realize I was going to miss Dubstep.  Thanks for always dropping a note, Wolfie, it means a lot that you've stuck with this over the past however long it's been.  And to all the silent readers, as always.  You guys are awesome!

Remember how boring the last chapter was?  Hold on to your hats, cause it got crazy after that.

Chapter Forty-Six - The Debut of the Diva

River was concerned.  She had developed a bit of a cold and was now starting to have digestive distress.  Being River, the idea of any doctor except her brother Simon was out of the question.  It was doctors, after all, that had turned her from a happy genius of a little girl who loved to dance into the big ball of crazy killing machine she now was.  So she turned to the next best thing.  Gytha.

"I think it's the sanitation at the restaurant," she said, worried.  "Maybe we should burn it down and start all over again?"

"Erik could blow it up," Gytha mused.  "But let's give this a few days, love.  I think you'll start to feel better soon."

But the stomach upset turned into full on vomiting.

"Gytha?  I hate throwing up.  I used to throw up all the time..."

"Here," Gytha said soothingly, "you come and have a lie down and I'll see what fruit Our Legolas has handy.  Fresh fruit will be just the thing."

Melons did settle River down and Gytha made the diagnosis.

"You're havin' a wee one, love," she told River.  "You just rest and do what you feel like doing, and leave the rest to Nanny, alright?"  She thought for a moment.  "But run any wild ideas past me first, just to be safe."

While Luna was taking the Goblins on a trip to the Art Museum, Gytha called a quick meeting in Legolas' room.

"We've run into some spacing issues," Tia said.  "I really don't want have to redo the house again just yet."

"So we're moving you in with the elf," Gytha told Erik.  "The baby will go into your room."

"What about the inventing bench?" Erik asked.

"You haven't touched it in weeks," Jareth pointed out.  "Surely there's nothing left to be done to Opera House."

"There's a reason we don't go to the movies anymore, man," Legolas added.  "You've got that place booby-trapped from top to bottom."

"Can I take a weed whacker to the walls?" Erik asked, looking around.  "Is that a mosquito?  And a squirrel?"

Legolas shrugged.  "Chop away, dude.  It all grows back anyway.  Elf magic."

Jareth facepalmed.  "It doesn't work that way."

The elf grinned.  "LO!" he said.

***

"Luna, my dear," Jareth said, sticking his head in the doorway of the kitchen.  Luna, surrounded by Goblins dressed in little aprons and mixing industriously, looked up.

"We're making pie, Jareth," she told him.  "No, Jayli," she said, turning to one of the Goblins, "we don't eat plasma fruit, remember?  That's a special treat for you and Peggy the Dark."

Jareth cleared his throat, and Luna looked back up at him.  "Was there something?" she asked him.

"Could I, er, borrow a few this afternoon?" he asked, fighting to hide his smile.

"Of course," Luna beamed.  "Once we're done with this, you'll be able to help His Majesty," she said to her small charges.  "Won't that be fun?"

"You're making them move furniture?" Indy asked.  "Does Luna know about this?"

"They are still my subjects." Jareth said, with as much dignity as he could muster.

"What's with all the redecorating?"

Jareth sighed.  "I'm feeling a little homesick, that's all.  Arlo sent some plans for renovations he's doing in the Goblin City.  I didn't realize this would take so long."

Indy patted him on the shoulder sympathetically.  "There were a few setbacks," he said.  "But Seven is on her way."

Legolas, after spending a day with Erik trying to get the extra bed into his room, which included a lot of "an inch more to the right, no it looked better the other way, do you really need all this stuff in here anyway," decided to call up Derek and see if he was up for an afternoon of bouncing on the trampoline.

They ended up telling jokes on the lawn all day instead.

River was feeling more and more uncomfortable and went in search of Gytha.

"Legolas?  Derek?  I think that labour thing has started.  Do you know where Gytha is?"

She wasn't prepared for the response.

"Labour KILLS people?" she shrieked.

"No, love, not at all," Gytha said, coming up and trying to soothe her.  "Just bad timing, that's all."

But then...

"ANOTHER ONE?" River screamed.

"Come into the house, my dear," Jareth said, taking the shaken River by the arm.  "I can assure you this is not a common occurrence."

And since it only made sense to have all the wailing people in one room...

"Stay away, Indy," she said, taking an attack pose.  "The baby is killing everyone!"

"No, it's not," Gytha said.  And a few moments later the little girl made her appearance without causing anymore fatalities.  She did cause the laws of physics to bend a bit.

"For heaven's sake, Legolas, stop that caterwauling!" Jareth snapped, on his way to meet the newest member of the Dynasty.  He had to use the mood manager eight times before the elf calmed down.  Since it had only taken once for Rain, this raised some speculation about his relationship with Derek.  But...

"What's all the noise? Is she here?" Luna asked, rushing past Jareth.  He shook his head and entered the room where River was regarding the baby nervously.

"Miss Christine Daae," he said, making a bow, a bit of a smile twisting his thin lips.  "You always did know how to make an entrance."
