How to STOP using cheats?!?

Hey guys,

I constantly use cheats for sims 3. Whenever I make a family, I use the money cheat and the one that I use all the time is the testingcheatenabled true cheat. I want to stop using them for a while, just to play the game how it should really be played as! I can't! I'll try but then somebody will get hungry or tired while they're at work, and I'll just make their needs all good! Help! Thank you all!

Learning to manage everything without cheats takes some skill and a lot of patience that's for sure. But, it's so much more rewarding. Once you learn a few basic tips (there's always good tips flying around in the challenge threads and the specific challenge walkthroughs), then playing without using cheats will be a piece of cake for you.

When I first started playing this game TS2, I didn't know anything about the game or forums and I became frustrated with the game and almost dropped it all together.  Once I found the forums and learned how to play the game with just a few cheats, I gave the game another chance.  If I had not learned about all the helpful (cheats) hints I think I would not have progressed on to TS3.  I just use them in certain games.  I think you just have to decide on which way you want to play a certain game, some with cheats and others without.  Don't be so hard on yourself, if you have a bad day in RL you may want a easier play day....just remember it's a game and have fun however you choose to play, there really is no right or wrong way to play!

I think none of them allow cheats so if you use cheats then you won't have played on the same terms as everyone else and you won't be able to compare your score to others.

That could be a motivation for playing "clean".

Hi Sammi and welcome to the Forum!

It sounds like you don't like seeing your Sims be uncomfortable.  If you aren't going to use cheats, you have to accept the fact that they won't be completely happy all the time.  Just like people, they will have moods that are up and down.  If they are tired or hungry at work, just feed them and send them to bed as soon as they come home.  It also helps to plan ahead.  Make sure your Sim goes to bed in plenty of time to be fully rested for work and to have a good breakfast.  One of my challenges is making sure they have enough fun because in the early stages of the game there's no money for computers or video games.  A trip to the park to play on the swings is a good way to get free fun.  And a $90 sprinkler will give your Sim endless enjoyment.

I used to be the same way in ts2 until I started playing challenges then I wasn't allowed to use them anymore I learned how to earn money and using other items....  ohhh how I miss "maxmotives"....

There is a Mod in Modthesims.com that makes your cheats uneffective. Maybe that'll remind you to stop using them

Seems a little extreme that you would have to install a Mod to stop using cheats! 
That would be a sign of a true addiction indeed!

Yeah, cheating can be addictive. I know four or five people who bought those grand theft auto games, never played the story mode and just use cheats to get all the weapons and go around in wanton destruction. You're missing out a lot on the game if you cheat too much, there's a lot of depth here, and I really recommend you explore it BEFORE you cheat.

Anyways carl's right. If you use cheats too much to take away from the game. Sims is a simulation of life and life doesnt have cheats

I am such a cheater as well. I played my first game without the use of any cheats early this morning. It was fun and I did good and fulfilled my LTW in 4 sim weeks. Whenever you get the urge to pop in that code just DON'T DO IT. I don't have any words of inspiration here, I just said NO to myself every time I wanted to for this game.

This is how I stopped cheating (mostly) - Start a Legacy. I did that and I don't feel the need to use cheats and cheats and cheats all the time, I find the game more enjoyable that way.
