Laptop suggestions?
« on: July 01, 2013, 07:00:01 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm sure this gets asked here all the time, but I need some help in selecting a laptop that will run the Sims 3 smoothly. I'm pretty overwhelmed by the amount of options out there and don't really know what I'm looking at in terms of specs.

I want to be able to run the main game and a few expansions. Beyond that, I'll mostly be using it for some photo and music storage and the Microsoft Office suite.

My budget is up to $1000, but I'd really prefer to spend less than that, maybe closer to the $800 ballpark.

I would really appreciate some suggestions if you all have any.

Thanks!

Well, each game is approximately 4-6 GB per download. If you want the store content then you're going to be adding more GB to it.
Take into consideration how long you are going to spend playing the game. A laptops average battery life is 4.5 hours. You don't want your laptop to overheat and perform a thermal shutdown. This happens when your laptops CPU (Central Processing Unit) is overheated - it can damage your computer. It would be wise to purchase a cooling fan to place under your laptop when playing the game.

Processor: Intel i3/i5 if you can afford it go with i7, don't get a Pentium processor.. just don't. :p
Hard Drive: 320 to 500 gb is a good range.. depending on how much space you need! I'd personally go with the 500gb.
RAM: AT LEAST, 3gb of RAM.
SATA Hardrive.
Do a screen 14+inch .

Enjoy :)

Thanks Natasha!

Any input on this one? I feel like it's probably lacking somewhere but I'm not sure where:

I'd still go with the Acer. You're getting a good deal with that. I'm not very fond of GeForce, a common dislike of mine.

I'd also go with the Acer. It's more expensive, but you're getting more hard drive space, a better graphics card, more system memory and double the dedicated graphics memory. Overall, a great deal.

Hope this helps and happy Simming. :)

If you want it to play, you really NEED a big screen. 17'' is not too big but way better than 14''
