Pets and Island Paradise
« on: June 30, 2013, 10:29:37 AM »
I have been so busy exploring around I just noticed last night that the IP island does not have cats, dogs, deer, etc. roaming on the streets and in yards. I can adopt and raise pets but I have not seen them running wild all over the place.   I have another world I am playing and all the animals are there roaming free and eating the gardens so I'm thinking IP world itself was not set up for animals running all over.   Was this by design or do I have a problem? (I kind of like it though and if I want the animals I can play another world for a bit).

I have found stray animals randomly sitting on the islands as I find them so part of me thinks they're there but we may not be seeing them because pets can't swim in the ocean.  I've seen the unicorn, too.

This could actually be the cause of a lot of lag some people are experiencing.

I have already befriended the Unicorn, but, I have not seen any other stray animals yet.  There are never any other horses around when the Unicorn appears either.  Could it be that there are simply less of them spawned in IP?

I have seen the Unicorn as he seemed to follow a family lot I moved to IP so he's still eating the garden!!  Have not seen any other critters though.  The pets I've adopted and purchased are working just fine and for me, no lags.

As you said, pets can't swim in the ocean but how many vampires or other supernatural entities do we see in real life...I would think they could spawn anywhere.  BUT, you've posed an interesting thought about the game lags some are experiencing. Might see an update to the patch soon?   Maybe it takes many days for these animals to actually spawn???  I know when I put spawners in it often takes a couple of days for them to appear.

Did you check in options to make sure pets are allowed?  I turned mine off.  A big problem in islands is imported animals so I wanted to keep them out of mine.  Don't even have the unicorn.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

I did have my options for Pets on.  Pets are running in my other worlds just not IP.  Thought I saw some horses on the edge of one of the island shores but it turned out there was a house there and they owned the horses...which were stuck! I tried to reset them and all they did was go to the mailbox and got stuck again so I evicted them all and bulldozed the property.  Too many "stuck" things seem to cause routing problems.  I can buy pets okay and they work just fine.  Really don't miss so many animals running all over the place anyway. What you said about imported animals makes sense.  I'll stop looking for them.  Thanks for responding.

I think you're on to something. Months ago, I was following the development of a custom world over on the official forums, and the creator reported that animals with pathing errors, especially horses, caused him a lot of lag-related grief until he found and "fixed" the spots where they tended to get stuck.

In two of my IP games the neighborhood adoption was on a houseboat. The one had four cats and that worked out ok. But the other one had three horses! Two was foals. I switched to the household and give them up for adoption.

You are so kind to put the horses up for adoption.  I bulldozed the lot and deleted the family from the clipboard!

Funny thing is, the next day the adoption centre was at a house, again horses lol. I put hay a salt lick and water down. The yard was too small for a stall.

I've seen horses and deer running around but I don't recall seeing any stray dogs or cats.

I've seen a stray cat come out of the ocean onto a beach (like it swam the entire way).

I can safely say no horses, but that's because I turned them off for all IP files. I have enough pathing issues as it is there, the logistics of stuffing a horse into a taxiboat to go to the equestrian center is a headache I don't need.

I haven't seen any deers, dogs, cats or horses in Island Paradise either, not even a bird or a rat. Pets are on, but wild animals are missing from IP.

I hadn't noticed the small animal missing.  I have enough points for a collection helper, so, tomorrow I will get one and see what that shows.  I'd do it now, but it is late (or rather early morning)here and I have quit my game for the night.  Will let you know.

UPDATE:

I found in a single search: 2 Turtles, 3 Snakes, 1 Rodent, 4 Lizards and 4 Birds.  All the lizards and 3 birds were on the main island.
