0.0  Oh dear... I hope he can see through Minerva...

Nah, Minerva's fine. No agenda at all. You can totally tell she's a nice lady.

Of course. She's not at all obviously evil or anything. She just wants everybody to be happy and adopt homeless puppies. She's nice like that.

Sheesh, Minerva. Go pick on Orpheus, wouldja?

But Orpheus has a normal self-esteem and confidence level :P That's not how Minerva rolls at all.

3.9. Deal?
(Donte)

I reached out to touch Orestes’ shoulder and he jumped, turning to look at me. “What?” he asked, sounding more harsh than I felt was necessary.

“Sorry, you seemed lost in thought. Are you okay?”

“Yeah… yeah, of course… Sorry.”

“It’s nothing…”

I kept looking at him, as though I could drag the reason for his sullen mood out of him, but he refused to look at me.

I joined Kleio in the basement, where she was standing over her alchemy books, lost in her work. She didn’t even notice that I went to stand by the moon dial, where I stood looking at the full moon in the sphere.

“It’s a full moon tonight,” I tried, but I only got a ‘Mm’ from my wife. “Do you think any of the boys have the moon illness?”

She still didn’t reply.

“Kleio?”

“What? Oh, no, I don’t think so – I haven’t noticed anything. Why? You think they’re acting weird or something?”

“Hmm… Orestes is. A bit.”

“Don’t you think it’s just normal teenage stuff? There’s been a little bit of a love triangle with Galatea and now that Esther’s involved too… well, it doesn’t exactly get easier, does it?”

“You’re remarkably calm about this.”

She turned and gave me a sad little smile. “I have to. Otherwise the feeling that something is seriously wrong will crush me. If I’m to get through the full moon tonight I have to keep myself together.”

I nodded and went to hug her. I would have to do the same.

(Orestes)

“Hello there, buddy. Long time no see.”

I sighed and turned to face Minerva. I still hadn’t quite forgotten how she’d acted the other day, and I kept a safe distance for that very reason.

“You’re the one who’s been away,” I said. “Where have you been anyway?”

“I told you already, didn’t I? And hey, what’s with the attitude. Sorry I snapped the other day. I was in Egypt and that flight kills me every time, but I finally got good news, so today I’m all heart.”

“Good news?”

“Yeah, I’m looking for something. It’s not really important. What’s important is, I brought you this.”

She handed me another one of her white packages with red ribbon and I took it with a groan. “So, what is it?”

“You trust me, right?”

“I guess.”

She laughed. She really was much more cheerful today, but it didn’t exactly make me more happy. I slept terribly lately and knowing that she wanted me to throw something at my dad for some reason didn’t make me more comfortable.

“Okay, it’s something like the potion I gave you for your lady friend, you remember that one, right? Like that, only more potent. If you throw it at him, my hope is he’ll forgive me.”

“I really don’t know.”

“Hey, the other ones I’ve given you have been good enough, haven’t they? Look, I’ve been separated from my family for ages. I’m all alone – right now you’re the only one I’ve got.”

I nodded and took the package. At least I knew what that felt like.

When I’d left Minerva, I hurried down-town to see Esther. I’d agreed to meet her after the meeting with Minerva. It was strange. She was a pretty girl. Nice. She liked me. I didn’t hate her. I ignored the voice in my head that told me I was being an idiot and I just went with it. She, at least, was practically ecstatic when we had our first kiss.

I had a strange feeling when I went home. I didn’t float like I imagined love should have felt like. I felt guilty. I pitied her.

And it was like the Universe was working hard to make me feel even guiltier. When I came home, Galatea stood ready to meet me. She was in her nightdress and looking at me sternly.

“Are you doing this to make me feel guilty?” she asked.

“What do you mean?”

“Esther. She called me yesterday, giggling like a little fool because you’d agreed to go on a date with her. You do know she has a boyfriend already, right?”

My stomach twisted painfully. “Well, she doesn’t anymore.”

Galatea started. “What do you mean?”

“She… realised that it wasn’t working with the two of them. She’s going to end it.”

“You are the most…” Why was the room spinning? “The most horrible, despicable being I have ever… she’s been in love with Scottie for years! She didn’t talk about anything but him for years and she finally found the courage to ask him and…! Oh, I hate you!”

The world had quietly ended.

“Galatea, it’s not like…” But she was stomping away.

I wasn’t sure I dared to sleep in the room I shared with her and Orpheus tonight, so I was on my way, settling on the couch when a sound reached my ear.

That’s when Granddad died. It was all quiet and peaceful and he didn’t cry or beg to stay. He looked so happy, and I’m sure I heard him whisper. To Passie. Gran.

And still the rest of us cried. Mum cried, dad, Orpheus and Galatea. I cried. And I felt more alone than I ever had.

I realised exactly how Minerva must feel all by herself.

[Author’s note: Bye bye, Junior, you sure stuck around for long! 105 sim days… aaand, with this chapter, the story is more than 25,000 words. That’s just crazy!]

Awww, RIP Junior.  lol you think 105 is long?  I had a Sim last about 115 days and I know there are others that have had like a 150 or so.  It's crazy to contemplate...

*sniffle* Poor Orestes... I feel so bad for him.

Bahaha, I know - I've had one last for 120 days or something like that. It only felt like too long because it was a pain xD I'm not good with many Sims...

"I didn't hate her." That is how you build a relationship that will LAST. But poor guy is such a tragic little hero.

I know right - you can all safely take relationship advice from Orestes. This guy knows what's up.

3.10. Goodbye to Magic
(Kleio)

No matter what I told Donte, the worry wouldn’t leave me. Something wasn’t right. Even in bright daylight, I felt like I would during a full moon. On edge. Uncertain. Nervous. I’d been pacing all day, and now I turned from the bedroom window to back to the livingroom, still just pacing.

Orpheus and Galatea were there, staring outside and clinging to each other, as though they felt the same as I did. Orestes was by the bookcase and Donte stood in the middle of the room.

He came over to me as soon as he saw me and gave me a smile. It caught me off guard – I’d been in my own thoughts all day.

“What…?” I asked.

“Oh, wow, Kleio, isn’t it me who’s supposed to forget?” Forget? I looked at him like he’d suggested that the grass outside was bright red. Then he rolled his eyes at me, but he pulled me into a tight hug and whispered: “Happy anniversary.”

“Goodness I forgot?”

He chuckled. “Of course you did. It’s okay, that’s why I’m here.”

I pulled him closer and snuggled in his warmth. “Don’t ever leave me.”

“Oh, wow, that’s so touching.”

We all turned as an eerily familiar voice sounded. Minerva was casually walking into our living room. She laughed.

“Happy anniversary. It’s your anniversary, right? I should know – I was at your wedding.”

“Oh, hi there, buddy, how’re you?”

We spun. She was talking to Orestes.

“What? No… how…”

“Minerva…”

“Remember our deal, Orestes?” she said. “You haven’t really done what I asked of you yet, have you?”

“I… I don’t know…”

“Hey, wait, you’re that woman!” It was Orpheus. He and Galatea walked towards Minerva, Orpheus with recognition in his eyes. “You gave me that potion.”

“Potion?” Galatea said. “What…?”

“Yes, yes, I gave that to you, sweet boy. You can thank me later.”

“You got what from Minerva?” Donte asked, a horrified expression on his face.

Orpheus explained: “When I was a kid, she gave me a bottle and told me to give it to Gally and… I did and that’s why she became real.”

“She… who is she?” Galatea asked.

Minerva rolled her eyes. “If you like, you can call me ‘Mummy’ and you’re welcome, by the way. Orestes. I really need you to do that thing. Remember?”

“Orestes, what is going on?” I asked. “What on Earth have you been up to?”

He didn’t answer me.

“Orestes?”

“She… helped me.” He finally looked at me. “She’s the only friend I’ve ever had.”

“That’s not true!” It was Galatea who was talking now. “Oh, Orie, I didn’t mean what I said the other day, I really didn’t…”

“Oh, be quiet!” Minerva laughed. “You couldn’t care less about him. None of you could. You do realise that, don’t you, boy? These are the people who cast me out, my own dear family.”

“That’s not true!” Weak words, I knew, but I cried them out anyway, hoping that somehow my voice sounded more sincere than the words suggested.

“You’re not sorry, are you, Minerva? I guess I should have known you’d try and charm your way through this, as usual,” Donte said. “And you know very well why nobody wants you anymore.”

“I told you – he won’t forgive me.” Minerva basically ignored Donte and kept staring at Orestes, but she was sounding less in control than usual. “Now help me and throw the elixir. I’ll give you everything if you just-”

“Wait, elixir? What…?”

“Orestes, is that…?”

I stared in horror as Orestes raised his hand, holding an elixir. One that I knew very well. The eerie blue glow was one I was familiar with by now. I knew exactly what she’d wanted.

“Orestes, please don’t-“

Time stood still and then glass shattered, and everyone was silent. And when the glass hit the floor…

Minerva stood quietly in front of us. No longer feeling ominous, threatening, not quite so wrong. Just… like a normal person.

“It was a cure elixir,” Donte said quietly. “She… gave you that?” He was looking at Orestes who refused to look at any of us.

“She wanted me to throw it at you. I don’t know why but because I didn’t know what it was…”

“You…” Minerva looked at him, stunned. “You removed… my powers.”

“You little… you… You… How dare you! After all I did for you!”

“All you did for me?” Orestes almost sounded bored. “All you did was negated when I saw the look on my mother’s face. I don’t know why she doesn’t like you, but that’s enough for me.”

“I see.” The whitehot anger that I’d seen in her eyes only moments before vanished. “And I had such great plans for you, too. An Ithaca-Vicentia-kid. Had potential.” She’d been on her knees, and now she got up, looking at Orestes icily. “Good thing I have a back-up plan.”

Donte shook his head. “I’d like to see what you can do without magic. And now I think it’s time you leave before I call the authorities.”

She laughed. “Don’t worry, Donny-boy, I’m out of here. See you in… oh, that’s right, you’ll be dead by then. But you.” Her eyes burned as she looked at Orestes. “I’ll be seeing you in the future.”

And then she left.

Only when she was gone did Orestes look anything but calm and collected. He turned to me, shaking slightly.

“Oh sweetie, come here.” He almost fell into my arms and clung to me tightly. “My baby boy, my sweet little boy.”

“I’m sorry.” His voice cracked. “I’m so sorry.”

“You couldn’t know. We should have told you about her. Both of you,” I said, looking at Orpheus. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry you felt that way.”

“It’s not over.” He sounded on the verge of tears. “There’s something… something she was looking for and I don’t know what it is, but I think it’s important.”

He pulled away from me and tried to discreetly rub his eyes of tears.

“What is it?” Donte asked.

“I don’t know, but she’s been looking for something and she’s been really busy with it, too.”

“So…?”

“Egypt, it’s in Egypt. I think I need to go to Egypt.”

[Author’s note: And that was it for generation 3! Yeah! If you think I’m happy with this ending you don’t know me haha… Anyway, yeah, the heir, as you might have guessed, is my boy Orestes. So, we’ll see what happens!]

Ugh, fabulous. And I love how you stage those shots, too. So dramatic. I love Orie. So much. He is my tragic hero. That's very Greek Mythology, you know. :P

Weeeee :D

Is it strange that I'm slightly in love with Orestes? It is, isn't it?

Others might say it's strange, I won't because: 1. I'm in love with 2D sprites from a Japanese game about lawyers. 2. I'm slightly in love with Orestes myself. 3. It means I wrote the character right.

Yeah Orestes! I'm happy Orestes is heir, he's a handsome sim ;D

He looks pretty good, doesn't he? :D I've pretty much known he'd been the heir since they grew up into toddlers. I knew one would be the anti-hero and really, it had to be the one with the dark hair and those traits...

Ugh, fabulous. And I love how you stage those shots, too. So dramatic. I love Orie. So much. He is my tragic hero. That's very Greek Mythology, you know. :P

Thank you so much :D <3 Oh, yes, he's my tragic little anti-hero! If you are going to name your characters after Greek mythology, there has to be some angst, right? Can't go full-on Greek tragedy (wouldn't want to kill off all my Sims), but angst there will be.
