Quick Fishing Question
« on: November 11, 2009, 11:23:55 AM »
Okay, my Sim that I'm playing in the MAX Skills challenge is not using fish I put into the fridge to make sushi. He fished for a whole day and came home with a wide variety of fish. I put 3 Perfect Goldfish and 3 Perfect Minnows in the fridge from his Inventory. No other fish were in the fridge. The sushi turned up as Rainbow Trout sushi. Why? He obviously pulled something out of his Inventory instead of using what was in the fridge. Doesn't make sense since I'm issuing the command via what's available in the fridge.

It's the same thing with vegetables.

As far as I can tell it's random whether the sim will use stuff from the fridge or inventory. And I think the same goes for the quality of the ingredients, whether it will be the highest quality or the lowest or whatever... Well, I haven't been able to see any pattern, maybe someone else has been more systematic.

If you want to control which ingredients are used you need to empty your inventory of everything else, very annoying. :P

How dumb. Yeah, I figured if I emptied everything then there wouldn't be any other choice but to use what's in the fridge. But, who the heck would do that when fish last forever in your Inventory and you need to keep certain ones anyway on hand for bait? Crazy. Thanks, PJ.

It is a dumb feature actually. Because of this I tend to avoid the meals that uses random ingredients like sushi or pancakes if the sim has anything valuable in inventory. Several times I've had a sim make life fruit pancakes, this is not how I planned to use those life fruits, akkh!! And one sim made robot fish sushi, you idiot!! Do you have any idea how expensive that meal was?!? Rgrhh! :o

Very true. But, as you probably already figured out, the reason my Sim is doing sushi in the MAX Skills challenge is purely for speed so he can acquire those Cooking challenges quicker. I think sushi and PBJ's are the fastest prep meals in the game.

In my experiance, they always use from the personal inventory before using things from the fridge, even though they go to the fridge to start the prep for the meal.  It would be great if EA would allow us to choose what the sim would use when they make the meals.  Save a lot of frustration for us players that way  ;D

In some way it makes sense I suppose, I have this fish in my hand, do I go to the fridge and choose another fish? I guess they're suggesting you sell, or store fish every day, and pick the one you want from the fridge. At least we know how to make a meal using x fish with this method.

One of the main purposes for putting food in the fridge is so that other Sims in the household can cook with it.  If you've got a family and a cook who doesn't fish or garden, he/she won't have anything in inventory to use for the meal.  That's when the food in the fridge is used.  So, I'd say that they use inventory food first, then use the fridge food.

That's usually true but I have had sims use stuff from the fridge when they had the same ingredients in inventory so I don't entirely trust it.

I have actually had sims use ingredients from someone else's inventory.  I believe, but haven't proved, that as long as a member of the house has the inventory it calculates in the making.  Example, kids spend the afternoon fishing, no fish in the fridge, mom can make sushi without having to buy fish.

I haven't seen that, Teresa.  Any time an ingredient isn't in the cooking Sim's inventory or the fridge, it costs money to make the dish.  That's bizarre about taking from another Sim's inventory.  I wouldn't like that much.

Like I said I haven't played specifically to see if it happens, but in my legacy I had one person that gardened and another one that fished and no matter who cooked they never had to pay for the ingredients (and I don't advance buy anything from the store).  The ones harvesting and fishing were "spares" so I never cleaned out their bags because it is painful to have to drag one stack at a time to the fridge. In fact the only time I would is if they were about to move out to make sure they didn't take any books or important items with them.  It could be a faulty memory on my part.
