Trouble Leveling the Diving Skill?

I'm curious to see if anyone else is having trouble leveling the diving skill. I've snorkeled until my athletic skill is level 4 but have yet to increase the diving skill at all. Also, I checked the science facility and did not see the diving class there.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong here? I'm following Carl's diving guide so I'm pretty stumped.

Welcome to the forum.

What type of Sim is it?  Have you tried with more than one?  What town are you trying in?

I've only tried with one sim but I'll check and try another one. I'm in Isla Paradiso.

Edit: After overcoming the second sims attempts at canceling the snorkeling interaction, I got him to snorkel but he only leveled athletic also. Is there an animation that lets you know they are snorkeling? My sims just look like their swimming.

They should have a tube next to their face and be wearing flippers.

None of my Sims have raised athletic by snorkeling.    Do you have any mods in?  You might want to remove them, clear caches and restart the game.

I raised athletic more than scuba diving so far by snorkeling, but DID finally get the basics of scuba after awhile. Only major problem i've had so far is the moment i started to snorkel, my athletic skill is now constantly raising itself even if sleeping. Been doing that with and without CC and/or mods so just a glitch i hope.
Also had the blocked route sometimes snorkeling on the beaches, but snorkeling in the pool doesn't seem to have that problem so far.

Wow, what a bug. I went all the way to 10 myself and never had a single athletic skill gain from the swimming, but took a class to get the first level of Scuba Diving opened up. Now that I think of it, this Sim should be pretty athletic from all that and they SHOULD rise in tandem. Perhaps that scuba class is the difference in our approaches that is helping that bug along on your end?

The Sim I raised to level 10 yesterday did not gain a single point in athletic and he learned by snorkeling on the beach.    I made sure it wasn't near the shore or else he got the..."Mom I can't do that!" bubble.

Weird- I started with a pre-made Sim in town to try. He started with level 5 diving, but he has not skilled up in diving even though he fought a shark (he won) and has been on 10 dives. He is now level 10 athletic though.

Do you use mods and have you cleared caches?

I've had some trouble getting my Sim to learn snorkeling, too.  If I have her go near her houseboat, she gets the pathing bubble.  I finally got her started in a swimming pool.  Not having much luck getting her to level up, though.

For what it's worth, I'm also mod-free and have leveled athletic from snorkeling and diving only.

I'm playing a human (non-fairy Simself), have levelled snorkelling and diving, but no athletic. Also, no problems with snorkeling at all.

If it makes a difference, I levelled that up around the Rocky Reef dive site. Took the houseboat out there and just snorkeled.
