I had doors disappear on a resort I hadn't visited in a while.  Anyone else had that?

I recommend starting off with some medium quality stuff, then read the reviews and upgrade anything as possible to the highest one, do what the reviews say, it'll help out a lot.

I had the front doors disappear on my resort when I first started it. I had to replace them about twice.

My resort was at 4 1/2 stars but it has gone down because I can't seem to find the roaches. But other than that everything is working.

So, even though I didn't use cheat codes, I feel like I just cheated. Here's what I did:

Start with a sim who has the Livin in the Lap of Luxury LTW.
Buy Hobart's Hideaway. Sledgehammer everything except front desk.
Obtain points from accomplishing LTW (I don't know how but the lot is worth more empty)
Purchase Genie, Wish for wealth, build eco-modern resort of awesomeness.

Profit.

If you need a bit extra money for anything and your resort is ocean side, then place a mooring post in the water and someone will arrive in a boat. You can then sell the boat!

*laughs*  Oh... now that's just *evil*.  I will have to remember this!

I had a weird thing happen when I accidentally tried to recolor the cottages. When I tried to exit the screen, the game went into a proccessing thing for about 40 minutes until I finally quit the game. So be careful with recoloring that!

Yeah the towers cannot be recolored.

How do you get a custom maintenance worker uniforms to stay? I'll assign it for both male and female, and later they are wearing the ugly original outfit!

At the front desk you can assign a custom uniform for all! Hope this helps. I find it easier than assigning a uniform for each person individually.

Never invite someone to a resort! They will go straight to the buffet tables and never stop eating, so you can't perform any interactions on them.

Also, if you want to live at your resort full-time, buy the cheapest houseboat and park it in the water right next to the resort. That way, you can send your sim "home" and be right next to the resort.

My Sim just started running her own resort, but a notification popped up saying "(resort name) is currently unprofitable by $91. If it isn't turned around soon it'll be forced to close until it is profitable." Help! What does that mean? How do I fix it?

Read your resort reviews and add whatever the guests say they want. There's a whole thread of tips on running a resort under Island Paradise.
