My mermaid can't seem to find Seashells whilst diving, does anyone know how to do it?

Mermaids cannot be created in CAS. Not sure why. Maybe they'll release a patch for it. Seashells appear randomly via spawners. I can't tell you how often though.

My merman won't change his scale color. I click on the mirror for him to do it and he just stands there. Then when I try to cancel the action he gets stuck and I have to reset him.

Still having that issue.

I have a ghost merman!  He is really cool.  His mother was a mermaid father was a ghost.  He was born a ghost.  When he was a teenager I sent him back to the netherworld (wanted to see what it would do).  His mother got an opp to take his ashes in and she did.  The box said that it worked well almost and now he is a merman and a ghost.  Really neat to see his ghostly fins.  If you'd like to see a picture let me know and I'll post it.

Another funny thing I didn't pick his traits because of neglect as a kid. He's a Supernatural Fan, Virtuoso, Loves the Cold, Hydrophobic.  I thought the Hydrophobic and Loves the Cold are funny cause he's in a constant warm climate and a merman.

So cool! Definitely post a picture if you have one!

I'll be honest I thought mermaids would be more like aliens and plantsims, and not like the other supernaturals who slowly take over the town, I don't remember any mention of townies turning into mermaids in the broadcasts only of you being able to turn into one, I wish they had added a checkbox for them as I really didn't want them in some of my current games, ironically I have yet to meet one in Isla Paradiso  ::)

I have though seen Parker Langerak in bright yellow trunks with blue green scaly legs, he looked colourful at least but totally out of place to me.

My Sim, Andi Handichick, married King Triton.  They have been married for one year now and just celebrated their anniversary and are contemplating parenthood.  I DID cheat and took King to CAS and aged him down to YA.  I didn't want this love affair to be over quickly as they really are quite the cute couple.

I didn't like his scale color so I took him to the mirror in his bedroom and selected Change Scale Color.  While there it brings up a color chart and you can pretty much make the different parts of their scales any color combo you wish.  I chose shades of aqua for him.  Then we went to CAS and did a clothing makeover.  I kept some things, like his cute swim trunks, but mostly the clothes were horrible.  I also made his eyebrows slightly darker and his nose in better proportion but the rest stayed the same.

He has never gotten dehydrated although he scuba dives almost every day with her.  When he got hungry I just clicked on the kelp in his inventory and had him eat it.  Mermaids will also eat raw fish so just carry fish and kelp with you and click on it when they are hungry.

I also didn't think being a star athlete was a good LTW so I changed that to Swimming in Cash since his wife owns a 5 star resort and they both gather and sell a lot of shells and sea stuff.

I'm really enjoying playing them.  The only difference I've found is he does have to spend a lot of time in the water but easily accomplished in Isla Paradiso!  He's learning to cook!  I am disappointed there aren't any kelp recipes except for Sushi.

Still don't have Mermaid Island and apparently I can't get there with King now that he is my spouse.

I've found tons of shells!  I think the guide has a map of where they are but I've just found them by diving a lot and really searching all the dive spots carefully.  One of those helper things that show you where gems, minerals, plants, seeds, etc are also will show you where shells are.  Check out the sands on all the beaches.  There are a few there.

The ghost merman is definitely cool!  Much cooler than the resident ghosts scuba diving.
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I've read Carl's guide and this thread, but I'm still a little confused on how to get my mermaid to turn back to human.  It's Periwinkle Dreamweaver and she became a mermaid by eating mermadic kelp.  Now I want her back to normal.  I've stopped letting her swim in the ocean and her hydration need is in the red.  I've never seen the moodlet for becoming accustomed to land, just the progressing dehydration moodlets.  At one point, she passed out from dehydration and her husband threw water on her to revive her.  That set her back to the beginning of the cycle.  I'm afraid that she's actually on track for dying instead of turning into a human.  Can anyone clarify some of this for me?

Pam, I don't think they have to be dehydrated, just not swim in salt water for two or three days.  My mersim at University stays hydrated in the pool.  But about every two or three days he gets a moodlet about needing salt water so I make him swim in the ocean to remove it.  You can't miss the moodlet, it's always on the top left corner of that area.  As I understand it if you keep them out of salt water they get used to walking with two legs on dry land and turn human again.

I'm not sure if a potent cure potion might also work.

<Edit> Pam, I went back to an old save, made a Sim a merman to check things out.  There was no option at the science facility to buy a cure potion like for vampires (I had wondered).  Had him drink a potent cure and he was cured with this message, "After using the potent cure elixer Luc Tan feels... different.  Magical afflictions appear to be gone... maybe a little weaker but definitely human?  It worked!  Luc Tan is cured!!"

It took a few seconds after using the potion on himself for the message to show up and the legs to go back to normal.  oh!  I just now noticed, he also got a +25 "Feeling Cured" moodlet too.

I don't know if this is a glitch peculiar to my game or something that happens when they age up but Triton King is an elder now and wearing shorts instead of having a tail  ???

I haven't tried a mermaid for myself yet although I do have two mermadic kelp Salty Seaworth gave my sim, I'm saving it for after he's finished Grand Explorer, just the five star resort left to get then I shall use them on my two sims just to see what it's like.

I've read people have had trouble getting the mermaid island but I got really lucky meeting Salty, like my sim he's evil so when a cave glitched them both to a nearby island I spammed him with mastermind plot, evil sims never get bored of that, then did a scuba dive here with back to the dive spot and he took my sim straight to the island near enough. No idea how much LTR plays into it but they were at best friend by the time they went back to the dive spot.

EDIT: Just met Mia Azul also now an elder and also in normal swimwear and no tail, strange.

I had Mia Azul over to house and while talking to her she offered to show me to Mermaid Island. We leave the house and run down to the beach and my sim jumps in the water and starts to swim. But to my surprise what does Mia do. She pulls out a boat and goes zipping off leaving my sim swimming away.
He did finally reach the island and found her sitting there reading a book while she waited for him to catch up. :)
But at least I got to the island.

Thank you!  I think I figured out part of my problem, too.  She hasn't died of dehydration because she's pregnant.  Whenever that last big moodlet ticks down, it starts over again with the first moodlet instead of Grim coming to visit.  I'll work on just keeping her out of the ocean and see what happens.

It's not a glitch.  Elder mermaids don't have tails.  I also had Triton King die after only being an elder for about three days.

That's a shame, I hope they fix that sometime so they do have them, I imagine the special outfit gets messed up or lost when they age up, I can't imagine they didn't include elder tails.

On another note don't trust evil mermaids, I saved the two mermadic kelp Salty gave me for ages planning to use it after completing Grand Explorer, had my sims eat it simultaneously and all it did was give them tummy ache, I should have known  ::)

After that I bought the lifetime reward one and I did notice that when they took it out to eat it it was all sparkly and bubbly whereas the ones Salty gave them were just normal, maybe that's a clue if it will work or not.

My mermaid just turned into an elder and you can see her tail.  Here's a picture.

Getting a little concerned.  I've got my life span setting on epic so not worried about aging quickly, matter of fact, I think I turned aging off for now while I learn the ins and outs of IP, but my merman is NOT showing signs of needing to be wet.  He and his family just went to China for 9 days and never once did he get dry and flaky and I did not have him swim or shower.  (Needs static.  Yeah, I'm cheating a lot in this file.   :-[) They are back home and since he has been strictly dry land I'm wondering if he is losing his merman-ness.  Guess I'll find out today when I put him in the water.  Not sure I'm all that thrilled with merfolk anymore anyway.
