I was having a conversation with someone who couldn't get their kelp to work.  They were always getting it from their boyfriend merman but when he gave over the kelp he said something along the lines of legs being superior.   That kelp never worked for her.   She got new kelp from Mia Azul who said eat this if you want to be like me.  That kelp worked.

I can't find anything in the coding that says that it can fail.  Where did you eat it?  Was it on your home lot?

It should be ok on the home lot, from my limited testing. I copied my Life States Dynasty crew for testing. Hel, my ghost I turned human with Ambrosia. She successfully became a mermaid on the home lot in Sunset Valley (and her floating ghost glitch went away after moving from Sunset Valley to Isla Paradiso).

Athena, my werewolf I used Potent Cure on, also became a mermaid successfully.

Both used the kelp from the LTR.

I have noticed that when mermaids age to elder their tails no longer display properly when they are under water, they just have their scaly legs. They swim as they would with a tail though, not like a scuba diver.

Try changing the scale color in a mirror. After I immortalized/young potion-ed my mermaid she did this & changing her scale color brought her tail back for me.

I befriended (best friends) a mermaid and went to dive, but she never showed up. So how do I meet her underwater to get the kelp? I never saw an interaction to take her to a a scuba dive place...

Go to a shore near a diving spot and signal the mermaid you want.  Once they have arrived click on the diving spot and say Dive Underwater With...  Be ware of Salty Seaworth - I hear he gives bad kelp.

Yeah, four pieces later and still no scales. He definitely has some bad kelp.

So I was doing some testing and it's official.   Mermaids and Aliens do not make meraliens.  They make mermaids or aliens.


If anyone finds out different let me know but none of my mermaid kids could do alien things.  And they all had the same tail no matter what their scales looked like.

What about ghosts? Can you turn Oh My Ghost ghosts into merfolk? (Probably, just want confirmation)

Ghosts cannot be turned into mermaids.  I just had a ghost eat about 25 kelps and not a single one worked.  They were all very tasty though.

Hm. Ghosts can be other occults though. Oh, EA! How you confuse us! Oh well.

But can't mermaids die of old age, fire, hunger, or electrocution like a normal sim can? Then would it still be a mermaid and a ghost?

Actually - you can't have a ghost use a potion to become a vampire last I checked.  And yes mermaids can die to become ghosts - they even have their own type of death.  The difference is a ghost becoming something else versus a ghost being something plus a ghost.
