Mermaids Thread

First time diving at a dive lot and my sim met Triton King who showed her to her very first hidden island, became her best friend, then they got married. He's quite the catch of the day with six points in painting, mastered diving and a couple of points in guitar. He's also got nice traits with Over-Emotional, Virtuoso, Loves the Outdoors, Loves Swimming - and I've forgotten the last one. He's also on the white/black color slider. But since meeting him I haven't encountered any other mermaids at all.

All mermaids have mastered diving.   If you turn into a mermaid and cure yourself, still have mastered skill.


Edit: Townies can become mermaids randomly.  There is no way to stop this however.

I have noticed that when mermaids age to elder their tails no longer display properly when they are under water, they just have their scaly legs. They swim as they would with a tail though, not like a scuba diver.

I just found my first Zombie mermaid.   Also - it's not just story progression is turning the townies mermaids.  It's that the townies are asking about fish parts to mermaids and mermaids are giving them the kelp to eat.  I saw it happen right in front of my eyes.

Does this happen only in Isla Paradiso, or will there be mermaids in other towns as well? For example, if mermaids are okayed for the Life States Dynasty and one wanted to marry one.

You can buy the kelp to become a mermaid so if they are okay for the Life States Dynasty - it's not like it would be impossible to happen.

I haven't played any other towns yet.  I had a question to SimGuruGraham and got no response.  I may play Sunset Valley tomorrow just to find out.

Along those lines, since it's not controlled by story prog and townies keep turning into mermaids - is there a cure? IE a forsake option or similar? Assuming also that a potent cure will work, yes?

Potent Cure works.  No forsaking that I'm aware of but will find out tomorrow.

Edit:  Story Progression is turning townies into mermaids and I repeat there is no way to stop it.  I am testing the lifeguard career in Sunset Valley without any dive spots.  Pauline Wan is a mermaid on Day 2 and Geoffrey Landgraab by Day 4.

All mermaids will have their favorite food replaced with kelp.

To turn into a mermaid, you have to eat magic kelp right?  Is there a special kind of kelp, or is it just the kelp you can guy at the grocery store?

It has to be mermadic Kelp that you either buy with an LTR or you get from a mermaid.   Carl is working on the mermaid guide now with instructions.

Ah ok, thanks Rica ^^  Though I haven't been able to get it from my mermaid family members yet... hm.  I shall wait for the guide to come out then ^^

I don't know if they can be in your family.  It has to be while a mermaid is in a dive spot.  And you have to ask about fish parts.

Oh...*face palm*  Well, even if I can't get my current Sim to a mermaid, there's always her twin girls.  They may be mermaids...  Is there a way to tell when they are burritos?  Or do you have to wait until they are toddlers?

You have to wait until they are toddlers and then you'll see the scales on their legs.
