Do you REALLY need to install in order?

I'm in the process of reinstalling my Sims 3 Expansions and Stuff Packs onto my new computer and I'd like to know if it's necessary to install in order. I'm asking because I want to install my favourite packs first (Ambitions, Late Night, Showtime, University) before I install the others.

I've done it both ways, in order and out of order with no side effects,  HOWEVER, I read somewhere that to ensure game stability it is best to install in order.  Here is the link from Carl's with more detail and the order to install.   http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/technicalhelp/installorder.php

I read Carl's article but there seemed to be some confusion in the comments.

Don't forget to patch between all the installs for the games between base game and Pets.  Each one has their own patch that you need to avoid some issues.

Couple of months ago when I reinstalled the prompts for the needed patch came up automatically and I clicked a button to have it installed.  I think, correct me if I am wrong, the patch is included within the EP from Showtime on... not 100% on that though.

When I installed ST, SN and UL a while back I did it all in one and without patching in between which caused some problems, so I'm gonna make sure that I patch each time, Its just annoying that with my internet speed it takes so long. (I'm using Origin)

I only have Sims3 through Showtime installed.  Took everything else off.  Showtime is the only download I use and that is from Origin and does take more time even though I do have good internet speed and a pretty fast computer so my guess is Origin is not/can not upload fast enough for us?   I've orderd Island Paradise for download from Origin so that install should be interesting!
