Sims sticking & time freezes
« on: June 20, 2013, 12:52:27 PM »
My sims keep freezing in the middle if moving & time freezes with the game sticking. Also they take such a long time to do things, like if I send them to a lot it'll take them hours (sim hours) to get there or they'll just not go.

Any advice please? I'm playing PC version. I've recently cleaned up & deleted caches but these issues don't seem to have been rectified.

Many thanks in advance.

Try and turn all your graphic options lower. It may be that your graphic card and processor struggle a little. :)

Hello Again,
I think you still might have a lot of stuff that could be removed.  This can be done manually, and this is not a sales pitch as I dislike all those ad's telling us we need to buy these various programs because it is the only way to make a pc run faster.  BUT, it might help you if you are having problems removing what you need to manually.  Just a thought.
You can also lower your graphic settings in options.  This lowers rendering but will help improve game.
Another suggestion,  you very well might have a lot of apps/programs running in the background that you do not need.  You can use Task Manager to temporarily end some processes or go into Services and adjust those.

At one point I had all Expansion and Stuff packs and was building large lots in a large town.  It was nice but I seemed to have problems with game lags all the time.  Especially if I threw a party.  This was why, earlier on I suggested only keeping EP/SP's you really could not live without.  You might still have a lot installed if you just deleted objects rather than using the Launcher to uninstall.  Take a second look at the list I gave you to make sure you did not miss anything.  There was a lot of text to absorb in those posts.  Something might just pop out at your if you have another go at it.

Most of my pc cleanup is done manually (including my registry) but I do use another program for a more thorough scrubbing.  Also, Delphy's Desktop I mentioned.  It is such a useful tool for identifying conflicts within the game.  Did you look into that?

Got most of my post patch issues resolved except I lost my custom content sims and the skins.  Huge problems with CAS this time around.

Keep me posted-

Ginger I know you're a technophobe so all these programs getting thrown at you is scary.

Have you tried a new game or is it the same old game?

I said to turn the graphics down, because what you describe happen with my old card. Also it can help to turn advanced rendering off in the graphic options.

Louise56 & Brappl

Thank you both.

Firstly how do I adjust the Graphic Options & ha should I set them at? And what does rendering mean, is that bad?

Brappl, Hello again. I bet you saw it was me & thought 'oh no. Not her again, what now?'

Funny, because there was a lot of information I copied your list into word & highlighted it when I'd done it or thought I had, lol)

How can I delete certain items from the EPs & SPs there are a few things that I could lose. I mean how many types of washing machines does one town need?

I did look at Delphy's Desktop but I do need to look again, it was getting late here & I couldn't concentrate. I'm always a bit wary of installing things on laptop because I don't know enough of the technical side to fix any problems they may case.

It is, it's like a foreign language to me. What do you mean by new game? A new town?
Could it be because I've made my world so big & got so many buildings etc in it?

I disconnected the Internet from lappy while playing & closed everything else down. It seems a little faster.

Also I've found the settings from my graphics.
They are set at the following:
Display: Built in display
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Colour Depth: 32Bit
Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
Rotation:Rotate To Normal
Scaling: Scale Full Screen

Does that mean anything to anyone?

Can a town be over populated causing to much pressure on a game slowing it?

Firstly how do I adjust the Graphic Options & ha should I set them at? And what does rendering mean, is that bad?  When you are in your game, in the lower left corner where your controls are you will see a button with three dots. Click on it and it will bring up options.  Go to the graphics tab and set the different categories in the middle.  You do not have to change them all at first as maybe just a couple will do the trick.  If lot detail is not all that important put it in the middle..if Sim detail is important, leave it on high, etc.  On some of these you will see a window pop up advising to restart your game after you change the settings.  You can continue to adjust the other settings but do not go back to playing a game. Save settings,  Quit and go back in.   Rendering is just performance.

Brappl, Hello again. I bet you saw it was me & thought 'oh no. Not her again, what now?'  Absolutely NOT!

How can I delete certain items from the EPs & SPs there are a few things that I could lose. I mean how many types of washing machines does one town need?  You can not remove individual items.  This was why I got rid of all my SP's and relied on downloading individual CC of things I really wanted. Sure, there were so things I was sorry not to have, but I got over it and found something else new and shinny that I could uninstall when I got tired of it!

I did look at Delphy's Desktop but I do need to look again, it was getting late here & I couldn't concentrate. I'm always a bit wary of installing things on laptop because I don't know enough of the technical side to fix any problems they may case.  OK, take a look at the link that is within the forum I gave you.  That information is already in the forum here.  Installing on a laptop is no different than on a desktop.  This is just a small program that will not impact anything else on your laptop.

That is a very good chance.   Do it in a new game with new Sims.   It sounds to me like you've got too much going on.   One thing I suggest would be to open the cheat panel (Control Shift C) Then type in Testingcheatsenabled true  then hit enter.   Then type in "resetSim *"  without quotation marks.  This will reset every Sim in town.  It could be that you have some people stuck somewhere.

As for Louise's suggestion.  When you have the game at Main Menu, hit the ... button and choose options.  The first screen is all your graphics details.   Make sure that reflections are off and that advanced rendering is unchecked.  You can even lower some of the other ones and it may make it run smoother.
