Law enforcement job- How to help keep partner happy

Hey ive just started playing Sims 3 on PS3 and im in the law enforcement, anyway i have just gotten a partner but im not sure how to "look out for them" and help them be in a better mood as its making my promotion opportunities suffer...any ideas?

Your partner's mood won't affect your job performance but the relationship between your Sim and the partner will. Make them best friends and the Partner icon will turn into a green happy face.
