I think you can with Moveobjects on. You can definitely overlap the pieces using moveobjects - not sure how that may affect the skylight functionality - as in reveal the floor tiles that should be hidden etc.

Edit: No, anything inside the square can not be interacted with by a Sim. The square blocks their movement and causes the foot stomping.

Anyone know if there's a way to activate the stage for showtime or even for just band performances?

I think if you put the instruments on it, you can use it for the band. Maybe if you change the community lot type to something like private venue or one of the other Showtime ones, you can use it for acrobats, etc. (I don't have the venue myself yet so can't test this.)

Like Marian said, changing the venue perhaps.  Changing the venue type will remove the benefit of it being a gym but you could do it.   The gym bug was fixed so Sims do learn athletic at a higher rate now.  For showtime, I think you'd have to place the proprietor space and possibly the stage inside.   Late Night bands - I think it's just lot designation and having the four instruments.

If it's big enough you could just put the showtime stage area from buydebug on top of it, if I recall it's 7x8, then put the seating squares in front for the audience to stand/sit in, the stage makes the game spawn the proprietor placement after a while, I made a basement in the Water Hole Juice bar in Riverview and put in a stage, the lot was set as a local watering hole at the time, it worked perfectly, had simfests and regular shows, it's possible it would work if left as a gym but I can't say for certain as they did add the function for showtime stages in bars.

If I remember correctly, in the update after Showtime I think stages that were placed in gyms would count as a coffeehouse gig, I think. I'll go find the thread now.


EDIT: Gyms do count as coffeehouse venues if you place a Showtime stage in it. Link here

My new Sim just spent some time with the 'Warm Up' interraction on the barre and raised Athletic skill (strength training) at the same time as Dance skill.  If you use the dance floor, your Sim will learn the three ballet moves, gain Dance skill but not Athletic skill.  So this venue is a fun new way to learn the Athletic and Dance skills simultaneously.  So be careful all you dynasty doyens and use the floor not the barre to learn Dance if you don't want the Athletic skill!  What a pity that the only female leotard is for a teen and no new dance shoes.

The ceremonial tea set has never been announced so it's most likely not going to be in the game.  Conversation over that is off topic and not allowed as it's not an announced product.
