Game going slow

Hi fellow simmers

I'm relatively new & still learning a lot about the world of Sims. And I'm addicted already. So I have the sims 3 game & a couple if expansion CDs & stuff kits too, my question is this -
My game has started to go slow & the sims are taking a long time to do their wishes. Really slow.
Is there anything I can do to speed it back up a bit please?
