It was on Sims Wiki, but I don't know for sure if it's related to an expansion.  It almost seems to me that all cheats through the console would be for vanilla.

I have looked in a few areas for this cheat but have yet to see it listed.  So I am risking embarassment once more in the hopes it will help others enjoy the game.

Firefighters and Ghost Hunters Cheat:

As usual, on main menu you must turn on testingcheatsenabled true.

Then you simply start your game.  Go to any house that is not an established NPC building (example: Firehouse, Townhall). Hold down your shift key and and left click.  You will then get the option to spawn various types of jobs.

Your permitted job spawning options change as you increase your firefighting skills.  When you first join you only get the option small housefire but this changes as you are more experienced.  I have seen small housefire, large housefire and earthquakes.

If this has been mentioned then I apologize for my redundancy.

Quick point on the ghosthunting side.  I imagine the types will also change for experienced ghosthunters but I have yet to explore this.  When I discovered the trick I was already a very experienced ghosthunter who got bored waiting for the ghosts to catch.

New information for you:

At level 4 of the firefighting career I was given the option of gnome invasion and also saw large fires.

NPC buildings do spawn jobs as long as you are focused on the correct buildings.  Hospital and Citizens Warehouse are the only ones I currently see.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew that but it didn't catch my attention ;)

As far as I know there isn't any cheat related to a expansion, right? I'm only mostly using some building related cheats myself, but I thought that was it.

I think we sometimes believe they are because the past two expansions have brought with them pretty big patches that added little bits here and there, and those of us who upgrade have little idea what's going on in Vanilla. I'll pay better attention to patch notes involving cheats in the future.

The difference between the vanilla (really? vanilla?) and the Ambitions is you do not get to spawn a specific type of event where as with the introduction of the new Ambition careers you can spawn a specific type of event for the careers where it is more hands on.

I consider this a definite difference between Vanilla and not vanilla.  Now if I can only find a way to spawn those falling meteors.  They might be rare but they sure are a good laugh.

I didn't coin the phrase, someone with some imagination I suppose. Now I guess I've got a Neapolitan blend of vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. :P

Just to be clear, the freerealestate cheat only works from the edit town screen. Hope that clears things up.

Which makes World Adventures strawberry and Ambitions chocolate, or the other way around?
As you may guess, this is an enormous important and absolutely serious question! :O

Leto, from reading this thread, I think you are really asking what we are talking about when we call a game 'vanilla', aren't you?  If so, hope the following helps and if not, my apologies.

Calling a game (or software program) 'vanilla' means the most basic version that does not have any special features.  So the release of The Sims 3 in June 2009 was the 'vanilla' version.  For some reason the English language also considers the word 'vanilla' (when used as an adjective) to mean something is basic, plain, dull or ordinary.

When Carl said 'Now I guess I've got a Neapolitan blend of vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate', he was just making a play on words that World Adventures and Ambitions were also ice cream flavors.   :)

Now back on topic - I think the patches enable everyone to make use of the cheats whether they have the EP's and/or SP's installed or not mainly because the updates ususally always affect something in the base game.

Thanks mtglady! :) This isn't the first time you've succesfully tried to explain things for me in a understandible way. You're like an personal online teacher for me.

@ Leto - Glad to be of some help.  I am used to working with my daughter-in-law as English is not her native language either.    ;)
