Can child plant sims photosynthesize?

Hello! I made my first plant sim, who is now a child, and she doesn't seem to be able to photosynthesize. Is this correct?

If memory serves (it's been a while, and mine is now a YA), I believe they can starting at Teen.

They're only broken when they start wilting!
