So that is why some people here are asking about torture in this game? Hmmm, interesting thing indeed. As we all know, those torture machines where used to efficiently interrogate enemies, but how they will do that in a sim game in a T for teens related environment... makes me curious.

That's a nice thing to say about torture, but if you're tortured long enough, you'll make up stuff just to get it to stop. I'm not saying you're okay with torture, I just wanted to make sure no one was under any illusions about that. I'm sorry I'm so serious and literal about things sometimes. And not to mention, though I am, my tendency to over-react.

Back to the game: maybe they won't go for a teen rating on this. Since it's not a direct tie-in, there's no reason they couldn't up the rating, though I think some parents (and others) would not be pleased if that is the case. Or did I miss on the site that they already have the rating? I only skimmed it when I looked.

Well I don't think Teens are as 'Sheltered' as they used to be on adult stuff, I did the Medieval period when I was 12 in History lessons and we got told about pouring boiling oil on armoured knights and the armour would melt into their flesh and eventually kill them. Good Times, Good Times...  ;D And also about a thing for nagging wives which was a metal helmet with a spike going into the mouth so if the wife talked it cut her tongue...  :-\

I see and hear such ignorance that I wonder sometimes what most people (in America, at least) know. And I told you about my bursts of seriousness. Believe me, I find humor in some pretty morbid places (I watch 'Dexter' on Showtime, for instance, not that I'm saying that show's a comedy), but then there's the another part of me that occasionally thinks 'other people may not get the joke.' If (and sometimes when) the public hears the jokes Police offices and soldiers make, they usually find them offensive, morbid, and who knows what else. They don't get the whole humor = coping mechanism thing. I think that's enough of that from me, because I'm definitely off topic!

If you look down at the bottom of the page it's got an RP for rating pending. Guess it may or may not be a T game.

@NeoFelis. I totally get it. I've got that kind of sense of humor too (and love Dexter).

I'm fairly sure The Sims: Medieval will end up rated "Teen" by the time it ships, RunAmok, simply because I don't believe EA's willing to risk the bad publicity associated with a "Mature" rating for a game associated with the Sims Franchise.

Leto ... buddy.  :'(

No, I don't "know that" ... I know the rack has been used historically (and is still used in some places) to "torture" people. If an individual is out to "efficiently interrogate" someone, reliable data shows there are other, more effective methods.

I'm curious too, how EA's gonna' end up eventually ship this game, and in what format. How they handle some of the darker aspects of the historical milieu the game's set in interests me as well.

Then again they may be trying to draw in more mature players to the regular Sims franchise. I guess it's just all speculation at this point.

It'll depend on how much they can sanitize (in both senses of the word) that era in the game. At least we don't appear in danger in gaming what's happened in movie making. If I want to play a game with lots of violence and creepiness or something like GTA, I can. Of course, the ratings people must still have a cow about sex and nudity, but most companies will put out plenty of games containing adult content knowing they'll sell. Contrast that to movies where they fight over single frames to get a PG-13 or if they're dealing with the more extreme, and that doesn't necessarily mean more mature, an R instead of NC-17. With Medieval, I suspect it'll all come down to whether they think it'll damage the sales of their other games if they put out something with a more adult rating. Which is a shame, because they may have to gut the game to get it to a teen rating.

My humor is all over the map, depending on mood and amount of sleep I've had. I used to love this videogame review show because in one episode they could have stupid humor and then reference Sartre. I'm mostly self-educated, but I get some of those jokes. Pity some company bought the network and re-vamped a bunch of shows while introducing things I wasn't interested in. Ah well.

RunAmok, I don't think EA's doing anything other than attempt to leverage the enthusiasm of folks who play the Sims to sell other content, as I typed a while back ...

RunAmokSims, remember me mentioning "Expansion Pack" / "Stuff Pack" enthusiasm a while ago? " I think I said I was either "old and grumpy" or "jaded?"  ;)

I think The Sims Medieval is going to be a (and EA is marketing it as such) a COMPLETELY different game "experience" than the Sims3.

I'm definitely more interested in what The Sims: Medieval ends up being (whatever it ends up being) compared to the many other games vying for my attention.

But until it's on the street, and until EA's announces a huge tie-in for "Sims3 Medieval Stuff," I'm more "meh."  :)

I know that late night just came out but who is planning on getting the next expansion pack. It is released around the 25Th of March 2011 which is near mothers day. (Mothers day is in March in the U.K)So I may persuade the husband to buy me it.
What kind of things do you think it will have?

The Sims Medieval will be a standalone game and not an EP. The next EP is presently unknown and EA usually doesn't tell us about the next one this soon.
On the question if I'm going to buy it, I think I wait a bit and see what reception it'll get.

EDIT: Please also refer to this thread as well.
Manbearpig simply wants to get you. I'm super cereal. - Al Gore :)

I've had it on preorder for quite a while now. I'm looking forward to being able to play medieval style because I've not played that way since Sims 2 and even then I had to download the costumes, buildings etc, so it will be nice not having to do that. I've just watched one of the videos on the medieval site and I'm really looking forward to having to overcome your sims fatal flaw. It all sounds really good. I'm very excited about it, can you tell? lol

Oh right I stand corrected  :)
I really should learn to read things all the way through to the end. It still looks pretty good though.

I WISH it was an EP, but even as a stand alone I"m going to see if it's something we can buy for me.  Maybe my kids will get it for me for Mother's Day, though I'd have to wait till May for it.

I can't even think of a way of how this game could be an expansion pack for the basegame. True, sims have the ability to build time machines since Ambitions came, but a whole medieval scene dropped in a 21th century city, I will be curious to how that will work out, if that will work out.

But, I am very curious to this game. May buy it, may not. It depends on some reviews here or somewhere else what I will do.
