The Martinez Random Town Jump - Graveyard
« on: June 06, 2013, 05:20:33 PM »
This is a Random Town Jump.
I will play by these rules:

1. My Sims will live for a generation in every town I own. The order will be determined randomly.
2. I will play on a normal lifespan, and I will disable alternate life states.
3. The seasons, season length, and weather will be determined per town.
4. I will not cheat unless it is necessary. I will use mods to replace EA's story progression and to keep my game free of errors.
5. I will not choose an heir until all children have reached YA.
6. My Sims will age naturally.
7. I will randomize all traits, and I will choose LTWs from the ones offered.
8. The heir will find a spouse before moving to a new town.

The Martinez Home in Sunset Valley

Author's Notes
I chose the Martinez family from the Bin because this couple deserves its own story, and I wanted to begin with a couple that had a small amount of Family Funds. The Martinezs' start the game with only 20,000 Simoleons plus 1,750 more if the books in Jennifer's inventory are sold. I modified The Monotone at 72 Water Lily Lane to suit a growing family; the house is compact but functional. I plan on posting updates as I play, and I hope to have you as a regular reader!

I will be reading! I like what you did to the house. I like your starting family, I used to play with families from the bin all the time. Great start! I look forward to read more!

Nice start! I like the house's makeover. I never thought of doing it like that. I usually add a second floor.

Nice! You never see anything starring the families from the library. Nice way to start!

Oooh!  I'm excited to read this!  Great choice on a starting couple, and I love what you did with the house!  I spent hours designing a house last night for the next town for the Hooleys, but I'm beginning to remember why I never play houses with more than one floor.

Thanks rarespawn! I adore the starting couple in your Random Town Jump.

Know how it is when you get so caught up in playing that you fail to write and/or take screenshots? Well... Since writing the first chapter I have played up until the first move without even thinking about the story.  :P Pablo and Jennifer had a son named Jasper, as seen above, and a daughter named Jaslene. They grew up well. Jasper was a young adult, and his traits were Couch Potato, Good, Inappropriate, Loser, and Vehicle Enthusiast. Jaslene was still a teen; her traits were Excitable, Light Sleeper, Night Owl, and Shy. I wanted to make Jasper the heir because he was dating Beau and Victoria Andrews's daughter, Lynette. She had her mother's beautiful hair color.

Anywho, I managed to recreate the house as closely as possible for a second attempt. I don't just want to skip over this whole town and start with the next one; I want to have a story for you to read! I hope you all don't mind my absent-mindedness.  ::) I'll be writing soon!

Edit: I'm also going to try a more humorous way of storytelling. I've never written as a Watcher... But I want to!

I love the way you did the house, I have it for a family where I added a second floor to give room for growth.

I like the couple you chose, I hate to play families that are common to the town, it makes me feel like I am in the movie Invasion of the Body Snatcher's, and I am one of the body snatchers!
But the couple you have chosen isn't a common one, so I think they are a great choice, and I like the way you set up  the family, a couple who  have traveled and are thinking of adulthood, being a family, not vagabonds.  Can't wait to read more.

I was wondering, how are you doing the creation of your story?  I am working on mine and I am right now creating a background of the couple, to give a reason for moving from town to town.
What has me stumped is how much of a background story to give, that it will be too much before I start to add the photos.

About the house, judewright said she adds a second floor, too!

I agree about playing as a Townie. It's challenging to write an original story for a Sim like Agnes Crumplebottom!

Thank you for complimenting the background I created for Pablo and Jennifer, Janna. When I was searching for a starting couple in Sunset Valley, I looked to the Bin and realized that the Martinez biography was exactly what I wanted to build on.  :)

As far as making a story, it all depends on the type of storytelling. I'm going to try for something more casual and humorous this time, but there are so many ways to write! From a Watcher's view to a formally structured narrative, I don't think you can go wrong. As long as you go for it!  ;)

Edit: I removed the original first chapter because I lost the images. I'll replace it with another soon.

"Once More"

Pablo and Jennifer Martinez were used to living on the land. The two thrived on harvesting fresh produce and camping lakeside wherever they visited. This outdoor-oriented lifestyle was substantial and fulfilling but not suitable for raising children. After much consideration, the couple chose to settle in Sunset Valley. A family was waiting to be started...

Week One, Day One

First things first, I sent Jennifer to City Hall to apply for a job in politics and take a charisma class. She has less than three weeks before she becomes an elder, so time and promotions are crucial for her to reach her Lifetime Wish. Pablo went to register to play for the Llamas at the stadium; he's in a similar situation, but he doesn't have to stay home on maternity leave.

Speaking of maternity, I made the couple try for a baby. They aren't young anymore, so there's little time to waste.

In the backyard, Pablo planted a garden of lettuce as Bessie Clavell played her guitar; Marty Keaton and Stiles McGraw were the other neighbors who welcomed the Martinezs to town. Jennifer began to improve her charisma skill by chatting up Stiles while her husband did chin-ups in hopes of becoming a hunk.

Week One, Day Two

On her first day of work, Jennifer was presented with an opportunity to deliver papers to be shredded to the police station. It only raised her pay a single simoleon. Pablo came home stressed because of all the fans at the stadium, which doesn't make sense considering he's a fan himself.

Jennifer discovered she was pregnant! Pablo was ecstatic, and both of them wished to have a boy.

Author's Notes
I'm afraid that's all for now. Be warned: I play rather slowly when I'm writing!  ;)

"Beginning With Baby"

Week One, Day Three

Jennifer took off to the library shortly after waking because she wanted to read pregnancy books. The baby won't wait, after all. She spent the rest of the day at home on the computer.

Pablo is at the midpoint of the athletic skill. He received a promotion to Snack Hawker that night.

Week One, Day Four

A baby is born...

Welcome Jebediah Martinez! His name means "beloved friend" in Hebrew. He is Absent-Minded and Excitable.

"One More Than Before"

Pablo and Jennifer Martinez began a family with the birth of their son Jebediah. Parenthood was challenging, but the couple handled it in stride. Did they want another child, or was one baby enough for them? The only thing Pablo and Jennifer knew for sure is that they missed their connection with the outdoors.

Week One, Day Seven

Jeb became a toddler. I'm almost certain he takes after his mother; we'll see as he grows older.

Week Two, Day One

Patrice Martinez was born. Her name means "noble" in Latin. She is a Couch Potato and Excitable.

Oddly enough I actually met a woman named Patrice once. It's not a terribly common name.

Welcome to the little nooboo!
