Unable to switch to a certain household
« on: May 28, 2013, 04:11:56 PM »
Hi all,

When I play Riverview and when I try to switch my active household to another I can't.  I made sure my sims know everyone in the town and are friends with them first because I thought that would be an issue.  I go into edit town then switch active household and then when I try to click on the household I want to play its like greyed out and I can't click on it and sometimes I can't even find the house and the only way I can play it is if I start a new game in Riverview. Its only happening with one particular household for some reason

Any reason why this would be happening?  I don't want to play the household as a new game, I want to switch over because I want to see how the story progression is going on with the sims in that household because i like to switch active households sometimes.

I do notice when I'm not controlling my household and I switch to another my original household starts doing doing weird things like going to the gym instead of work, or getting in trouble by visiting other sims and not behaving in their house, flirting with other sims when they supposedly have an eternally faithful reputation.  Why is that?

Thanks for your help. :)

Are you sure the people in that household are still living there?  They haven't left town, perhaps?  What about having your Sim go over to the house to visit - can they do that?

As for why Sims do inexplicable things when you're not controlling them, I think that's just one of the mysteries of story progression.  In one of my earliest games, I had a level 10 cook and then I switched households.  When I got back to her, she was a level 5 cook and was in a romantic relationship with Beau Andrews, of all people.  I remember sitting there staring at the game and saying (as if she could hear me) "Beau Andrews?  Was he the best you could do?"  ;D

Since then I rarely if ever switch households.  I don't trust what those Sims will get up to without me directing them.

Do you have the Pets ep? and is the house you are trying to switch to the neighbourhood pet adoption one? the tag should show up in map view while playing.

I'm sure I've noticed in edit town that you can't do things with that house, it moves about though so if it is maybe wait a while and they should go back to playable once the pets have gone.

Which household are you having problems with? I play in Riverview all the time and I've never noticed any issues.

Wow, that is funny Schipperke.  I guess thats what makes the game interesting :) Actually when I get bored I try to switch households on the weekends only at least that way I know both my sims aren't working and at least they'll keep their jobs and not slack off and not show up for work.   They have like one level each to go up in their careers to reach the highest.  I don't want that to get screwed up.  I didn't know if someone had a level 10 in cooking that you can go down from there, thats the first I have heard of that.

No, I don't have the Pets EP.  I just recently got Generations but I think I will try visiting the household to see if the people are still there.  Actually its Hunter Cottoneye who lives way out and not near anyone at all.  I thought he might be an interesting sim to play.  He's by himself and I thought I would give him a good job, he has no job at all, and I might want to change his traits, find him a girlfriend and see what happens from there.

Thanks :)

Ah I see, well story progression does move him about sometimes, he's quite often the consignment store guy in my games, spends his days stuck behind a till, I'm sure he would rather be fishing.

Hi,

I had my sim call Hunter Cottoneye in Riverview and invite him over and he did come over but I can't visit Hunter Cottoneye at all because I can't find his house anymore.  Does that mean he moved out of Riverview but I can still call him to invite him over or invite him out?  Trying to figure this out.

Thanks :)
