« on: May 28, 2013, 02:59:40 PM »
Hi ! My game has been running slowing latly as I get more sims games and downloaded union cove. Other than UC I have no CC.What can I clean out without ruining my game or losing anything still in use to make it run more easily. Wether or not I am in UC it sometimes freezes and takes awhile loading! Any help would be great! Thanks !

Check the thread Performance Issues and see if any of that helps.

Delete all the files in WorldCaches and DCCBackup (there may be no files since you have no CC but it looks like a bunch of letters and numbers with the .package extension).

Actually, I've read on MTS and somewhere else that deleting the WorldCaches is something you should only do if you absolutely have to.

DCBackup will fill up even if you don't have CC as I get over 1400 a day playing in Sunset Valley, Riverview and Lunar Lakes sometimes.

How much RAM do you have?

I was in your same predicament the other day. The lag and freezes got so bad it became unplayable. Even after trying everything under the sun, I still had issues. Even though I have a high end gaming pc. Cleaning out files helped a tiny bit. However, changing my RAM settings is what made it run like a charm, finally.

1. Go to the start menu (the windows icon)
2. Click 'all programs'. then go to 'accessories'.
3. Scroll till you find "run". click it,
4. In the little box type in DXDIAG.
5. Click ok. let it load and once it's done loading, towards the bottom of the menu it'll say "memory". Tell me what it says right next to that.

6144MB RAM

alright, now that we know you have enough ram to spare.

1. go into your sims game folder. not the my documents folder but the actual game folder. Find a file called sims3.ini

2. open the file and look for "memoryusagelimit ="

As you can see, I changed mine to use 10 GB of ram. Those extra zeros are necessary. So for you, since you only have 6 gb, put it to 40000000 instead because you need 2 extra gbs for your computer. if you put it any higher, you'll run into some issues. 4 gb is plenty for the sims.

save the file and exit. now launch the sims and tell me if its running any better. :)

I'll say it again. Its in your GAME folder not the folder where your screenshots, downloads, and saves are.

So its not under EA>Sims 3?

What he means is that it's in the programs folder.  The path is C:/Program Files (x86)/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin.
