I did both of them (I set my game to run with 7 GB) and I think it's helping a bit. My game loads a tad faster, though the overall game is still kinda laggy like usual.

It seems to only be affecting a few people.
To people for whom this worked, can we have a bit of information about your system? Operating System, GB of RAM installed, Patch Version, EP's installed, that sort of thing?

It helped me a bit, but where I really noticed a difference was when I went to save.  Prior to the this program it would take 15 to 20 minutes to save if I played a while, but now it less then a minute to save.

I have Win7 64bit, 12GB RAM, 10k speed HD, i7 Intel CPU 3.8Ghz processor, patched up to 18.something.
EP's Seasons, Late Night, Supernatural, and U-Life.

Some explanation on why this is not speeding/working up the game etc.

Sims 3 is a 32 bit application it won't take advantage of the RAM. It can't it's 32 bit. However, more RAM will effect to some extent loading/saving and will help if you multitask and game.

I cannot link to the article, but here's another way of putting it:

"If an application is not programmed to take advantage of the 64-bit architecture, and use 32-bit data types for 32-bit memory spaces and processing, then upgrading to 64-bit OS or adding more RAM for the sake of this 32-bit app alone has little benefit. Especially if the aim to upgrading is to utilise the increase in RAM. You do get a boost from the RAM upgrade when you multi-task while gaming or increase saving/loading times a tad bit just because the game does not have to swap back and forth between HDD, pagefile, and RAM too many times."

Another one:

"Other than the specific applications that hog your RAM, if you think bumping your RAM from 3GB to 8GB is going to increase the speed of a regular application-like a video game—you should think again. The only thing that additional RAM does is allow your computer to do more things at once, not actually make it faster. So if you normally have a few dozen windows open before you launch your video game, you'll see some speed improvement by upgrading, or you could just close a few apps."

However from a graphics card stand point, you need more RAM. It's super important for gaming, but speeding up the game...

Here's another good link. I don't recommend their methods unless you know what you are doing when it comes to computers.
In some of their tests they used sims.

In case anyone's interested...

Turns out only BaseGame, Late Night, and Outdoor living are LAA. I checked with a program and here's what I found. The list includes, All, EPs, All, SPs, CAP, CAW, Spore, and the new Sim City.

This is the link to the program, it's more advanced.

Sorry, what's LAA? I downloaded the RAM expander a whole ago, and didn't see a difference in the numbers either!

LAA: Large Address Awareness. It means allowing 32 bit programs to use more RAM.

The effects you might see are saving and loading, but mostly multitasking, running other programs and sims at the same time.

RAM does not speed up a computer in itself, it's job is to allow you to multitask at higher speeds.

Does that clarify?

Also you have to apply the program after each patch.

hi.

sims3 is the slowest game ever. As long it's just the loading screens, and saving the game, I can live thru it. However I would love a solution.. at best, i saw ts3w.exe (v0.2.0.188) use 2.1gb of ram, max! Not good enough, I want to use more than 4gb as well, like 8gb or 12 or 16 GB ;)

i did use Large address aware in the past, and other sims3 tools.. I believe its all set to true allright. Why do one have to set this LAA in ALL the sims 3 exe files, for every single expansion ? Isn't it only needed for the actual exe file you run when starting the game ? Because the game just uses 2.1 GB, i see no problem in having other programs open, photo editors, winamp, dozens of other stuff. well, im lucky that my pc <still> can keep up.

What about people who have 32 GB of ram, I doubt they are 'happy' about the game using 4 GB and not 2 GB. And yet, the game probably just use 2.1 GB of ram. Have ANYONE here seen the sims exe file, use more than 2.1 GB ? Just thinking IF, please speak up :)

saving a game, wow, that takes a long time, but well, having all EP's and tons of mods...

for now, I will delete all the cache files, and let the game rebuild, there seems no risk in doing this. All that happens, the start of game, will take a bit longer, because it will have to rebuilt it again.

and aenito and napoleon, thanks for the pics. :)

You cannot use more than 2 shoes yourself; even if you put two shoes in your hands, you will not walk faster. Maybe they willl address it in The Sims 4 but for now the max your game can handle is 4GB. It doesn't matter how many shoes you store in the wardrobe, the game have only 4 feets.

But one thing is the theoretical max, and another diferent thing is the actual use. It depends on the data of your game. If your game have 2.1GB of data, this is indeed a good news. This means your computer must deal with less stuff so it can perform better. When your game data will reach 5GB of data, ts3w.exe will start to juggle to fit 5 shoes in 4 feets and the game experience will drop significantly.

Game performance have many faces and RAM is only one of them. You must also deal with graphics, hard disk usage, Windows pagefile, ... even internet access and Windows firewall have impact on the game experience.

As far as i understand it, the diferent EP exes are just launchers. The only exe that need the LAA flag is ts3w.exe

In my pics you can seee more than 2.1GB used. But that was indeed a stress test and not a real game. It's in a map with a lot of houses and lots of items and lots of diferent textures. Also in the game options was set to show 8 nearest lots so most of the usage is indeed loading and unloading textures.

I find it pretty quick. But I use a lot of the lag managing tips out there. Save cleaner, TravelDB editing, merging, compressing, and monitoring the number of dcb and ebc files. Deleting DCBackup (except ccmerged), keeping downloads folder empty. Every time I play I delete cache files and also thumbnails every so often.

I also do computer maintenance, you'd be surprised how that helps. Especially keeping drivers updated. As aenito there are many factors, not just RAM.

As I explained in a post above, the point of RAM is not speed for game time. Loading/saving? Yes. Multitasking? Yes.

Ram doesn't make your computer faster by speeding it up it speeds it up by allowing the computer to do multiple things at once without slowing down.

I suggest you look into how much game data you have if your game is that slow. Also what type of specs your computer has, CPU, RAM, GPU, HD space, Laptop vs. Desktop.

Try also decreasing the multitasking, that probably would speed it up.

As for people unhappy who have more RAM, remember it's a 32 bit game. 4GB usage is great.

I have been using this for about two months, and it made my game completely perfect. Then I updated the new patch, and it wouldn't go through because I had altered it. So I restored my old file, and I got the update. I had lost my link for the instructions, so I tried to run it. And my game did the exact same thing it had before where it crashed due to not enough memory. So, I used this app again, and my game wouldn't open.
I would use the executable that I do because I have NoCD, and it would go to the black screen it sometimes does when it needs a second to load to the loading screen. I waited. Nothing for minutes. Then I pressed it, and the screen turned grey. As it sometimes did this, I went into another browser and let it sit. It sat for almost an hour. Still grey.
I then went to restore my old file, and I saw that it hadn't backed up like I thought it did. So, I used the older program (CFF Explorer) and went in to undo everything I did.
It is still turning grey. And now my launcher won't work for me to delete some of the cc I have. I went into my program to tell me if anything has conflicts, and it says I am fine. What should I do?

The new patch is causing these type of problems for a lot of people even those without using this program. I had a similar issue of the patch causing black screens and crashes.
I did a fresh reinstall then used the superpatch. And have had no problems since.
I hate to say it but that's what I'd do. Then after, run one of the memory programs.

Thanks, I was actually about to do that when I went on the sims 3 website forum and saw a tip to remove my savedsims file. Immediately, the black screen problem stopped.

I don't get it.  When I use the memory usage limiter, it doesn't work.  It's use as always about 2 GB ram and no more.  Why is that?
