Mod removal of vehicles - thousands
« on: May 26, 2013, 05:20:01 PM »
Hi, I've just installed Seasons EP 3 days ago.  Since then the vehicle removal has been in the thousands every night at 3.00 am.  I believe it's Overwatch that takes care of the vehicles.  It was usually between 30-45 nightly before but now is anywhere from 7000 to...30,000 and once I had over 79,000 removed.  Has anyone experienced this? Does it sound normal?  It doesn't seem at all plausible to me.  I'm quite shocked!

What town are you playing in when this happens?

Twinbrook.  I used it as a test run on a lot with 1 sim to see all 4 seasons, so it was brand new.  The love mail is also a nuisance.  Then I played 5 days of summer in Riverview with a house of 6 sims.  The same was true of the vehicles.  Also, the amount of love mail was staggering.
I'm now playing in my usual Twinbrook town, which is considerably older, but is running smoothly apart from the vehicles.  I have also noticed that this sim has received no mail at all.  I can definitely live with that.

That does seem rather high!  I've seen consistent thousands in Sunlit Tides, but that was 1,000 - 3,000 average per night (which I can believe, given the large number of parking spaces and road breaks in that world).  79,000 is a huge amount by comparison.  When you weren't running Overwatch was the game lagging or stuttering badly from all of those abandoned vehicles?

Also, does the mod version match the patch version of your game?  Very strange things can happen if they don't match.

Did any of your vehicles get demolished?

I've been running overwatch for about 8 months now.  It has made a tremendous improvement to game lag.  I used to go into edit town and remove all the parking spaces.  A chore, but it helped.  I love the mod.  To go from an average of 30 cars a night to all these thousands blew me away.  The game freezes at 3.00am for about 10 - 30 seconds to trump up all these imaginary cars.  Tonight just before this post I had 39,000.
I am running patch 1.50 and the mods match.  My game says it is up to date.  Have there been any other reports of these high numbers.  Have you always had 1000 for sunlit tides.  I've never seen anymore than 50ish cars in any town including sunlit tides and Twinbrook is probably the smallest town.
None of my vehicles have been demolished (that I know of).

I've just started using it, and was averaging about the same 25ish per night. I've had a few spikes - the worst being 171, which is nothing compared to the thousands you've got. I've seen reports of 6000 and upward. I suspect the days I had the spikes may have been days my sim/s spent more days out at different lots, thus drawing inactives out of hiding. I'm currently waiting to find out if all the residents have their own cars and bikes if there'll be less cars generated. If so, then every sim in CL is going to have their very own car in inventory, plus one on every residential lot, every child will have a bike, and every teen will be given lvl3 driving skill and a car as well (if that is possible!).

I only put the mods on in my Sunlit Tides game due to increasing lag and stutter (it was getting Shang Simla bad!).  That was several weeks into game play.  Right from the installation the numbers were in the low thousands and stayed that way as long as I was playing that file.

I don't know if the numbers would've been lower from the start, or if visiting many lots by the active household increases the amount of things the mod needs to delete (entirely possible).  Since it was my first game in that world my sims went everywhere!

Out of curiosity, have you tried a 'resetsim *' to see if the numbers decrease?  There's no reason they would, but I wonder if there's homeless townies or NPCs driving up the numbers by being stuck in an endless loop of driving or parking or some other glitched state.

If the game's playable and the numbers are stable I wouldn't worry too much about it.  If your numbers keep increasing there might be something going wrong with the file.  Either way backing up your household and their home to the library might be a good thing to do, just in case.

I will try resetting the whole town, townies and anything else I can find to clean up.  I also use overwatch to stop memories, clean up the homeless, clean up stuck vehicles and stop pet adoption.  If I have to give everyone a car, to me that defeats the purpose of the vehicle job of the mod, not to mention going back to my old practice.  I think it's easier to take away all the parking spots in edit town.  However, with the number I'm getting maybe giving eveyone a car may also help.  For Twinbrook I would do that.  I love it the most and I circle amongst about a dozen of the households.  But to have to do this in every neighbourhood.  Ouccch.  I have lots.  May think about eliminating some.
I do keep backups of all my game files on my main drive and an external drive, and in the library I keep any families with household, without house & their house in the lot bin that I care about.  I also keep a copytown of Twinbrook because I have made quite a few changes and additions, so I don't want to have to do that all the time.  Quintuple safety factors.

Giving everyone  a car will just get the cars stuck in a parking lot somewhere and then they'll start the process of getting new cars for every trip again.

Just so you know Memories can be handled by the game now.  It was implemented in a patch to allow you to never have them again.

Hi Ricalyn, I have the memories in the options set to off as well.  Each new town must be set as with the mod as well.  Never hurts.
I'll remember that about the cars though.  Will save a great deal of work.  For some time now, as I go along, every sim I control has a car in his pack and no parking space on the lot.  So far there has been no problems.  I don't see them in any other vehicle than their own.  I did a town reset but the amount is still in the thousands and the game freezes for 10 to 30 seconds every night.

Get Twallan's "Traffic" mod. I play a big town and only get about 10 vehicles cleaned each nitght by overwatch.

Hi MoMoll,  I've downloaded Twallan's Traffic and it has made a huge impact.  The first day, I closed the game and re-started.  The count came down to 10-20,000 each night with some short game freezing perioeds.  The next day though, after starting up the computer and game, the count has returned to it's usual 35ish each night.  Yeah.  Also, Traffic allowed me to turn off the taxies and the professional vehicles (which my character has one - a pain), so double Yeah!!
  Thanks for that one.

As a curiosity, did any member of your household had a showtime profession ? ( singer , magician or acrobat). In my case when a singer of my household got to rank 8 or 9 i had 54.000 cars removed every night. Sadly and missing the singer songs i had evicted that member and the car number dropped to a more manageable 300 per night.

yes, my sim was a singer.  But I was not willing to lose the profession or delete him.  I'm grateful for Traffic.  My counts are back to normal.  I see a high count when I start a new world but set traffic and all is good.  In Traffic/Routing, I set the first and 3rd option to false.  Love it.  I'm sorry to hear you lost your sim.  Traffic allows you to shut off the professional vehicle as well.  Love that too.
