Convert generic rabbit-hole building shells?

So I searched the site for an answer and if there is one, I couldn't find it.  Is it possible to use the generic shells we get in the community lot build option and use them for a building that is not a rabbit hole?  For example, I like the Nibbles Cafe shell and, in fact, use it as a rabbit hole in some of my games.  But, I'd like to be able to use the shell and change it to a non-rabbit hole, like a walk-in cafe or even a type of lounge, and then change the lot designation.  After I put the shell on the lot, I can't change anything about it or go inside of it to remodel.  Has anyone ever done this?  I know you can do this with the metropolitan buildings that came with Late Night so I think I'm just missing something.  I hope so.   Thanks.

You can still have your cafe or whatever.  Simply build the cafe on a lot large enough to accommodate it AND the rabbit hole, then carefully move the rabbit hole over till it touches and blends into the cafe build.  I saw it done on the official site but though I looked, couldn't find the builder who did it.  She's very creative but after 40 pages I was done. lol
