Here Comes the Bride

  "Grace!"

"Hi, Kylara," she laughed, wrapping me in a hug. Between the maternity clothes and the bump I could feel in the hug, I could immediately tell that she was pregnant.

"I'm getting married!" I announced. She gasped, and I continued, "Yes, I just met the most wonderful--Quinn, Quinn Flanagan. He's actually here somewhere, I think he's hiding from you."

"That's fantastic! Aliya has a boyfriend, you know, Mason Sackholme. They're thinking about moving in together, which would be a relief, because the house is getting crowded. But I can't believe that my little girl's all grown up."

"Oh! Quinn!" I waved him over. "Grace, this is my fiancé, Quinn Flanagan. Quinn, this is my stepmom, Grace. Who is also my half-sister, so you can call her Mom or Grace or . . . such."

"It's nice to meet you, Grace," he said formally.

"Would you do me the tremendous honor of granting me your daughter's hand in marriage?"

  "Oh, well, isn't that a little old-fashioned?"

"Old-fashioned is common around here," he answered.

  "She said yes!"

"Of course she said yes, silly!"

I leaned in and kissed him. "Let's just go home and make use of that extremely expensive double bed, okay?"

The bed did cost an awful lot, by the way.

We held the wedding the next evening. Quinn stood at the arch in front of the guests for half an hour, making small talk and waiting anxiously for the first sight of his bride in her wedding dress.

His jaw dropped at the sight of a young, blue woman in a blue wedding dress, her hair braided with flowers, floating smoothly over the grass. I smiled back at him as I approached the arch.

The entire family attended the wedding. Left side: Cyllia, Jason, my boss, Grace. Right side: Blake, Treasure, Aliya.

In all, the ceremony only took about twenty minutes. We said our vows, exchanged rings, and waited patently for the sobs of my relatives to quiet down.

Hearts fluttered down at the end of the ceremony, and the attendees oohed and aahed together.

Everyone laughed as we kissed again, even after the hearts had long died out.

We sent everyone away early, since we couldn't afford a reception and were dying to have some alone time anyway.

With our marriage sealed, it was time to start trying to have our first child.

I expect Azokka either to yell at everyone and totally dominate or else get out the popcorn.-Ombradellarosa

Congratulations to the couple! Can you show Grace's baby when he/she is born?
I'm not pedantic! I just believe in precision of language.

Half-Step-Whatever

With a legacy that's just starting out, like this one, it's hard to spend much time doing anything other than skilling. At least my skilling is fun! I play the day away at my chess board.

Quinn, on the other hand, writes. He takes a break every once a while when he's stressed out, to practice his Charisma or call people for interviews.

I take breaks, too, but only when I really, really, really need to throw up. I've talked to Mom on the phone about it, and she says that constant, unexplainable vomiting is a sure sign of pregnancy. Which means that I'm both excited and terrified, especially since we barely have the money to build a room, let alone furnish a nursery!

But, as I later pointed out to my husband, what child raised by us wouldn't go on to win the Nobel Prize?

We were about to get into bed together when I got the results of the blood test from the hospital.

Don't worry, we still got into bed together. Silly things like news of impending children can hardly keep that from happening.

I take trips to the library on a regular basis to write for a little extra money. I still marvel at the low quality of technology in Dragon Valley, especially since, in my hometown, everything was so up to date and expensive! According to the friendly old lady I chatted with, technology was only introduced a generation or so ago, when humans started to settle in the valley.

While at the library, I happened to meet my (erm) . . . half-nephew and/or half-cousin, Joshua! My stepsister, Carolina, wasn't in attendance, but Mum (I've decided to stop referring to my family as half-step-whatever, and instead just call it like it is) promised that she looks just like Blake! I take that to mean that she has normal skin.

Of course, Dad was very excited! He did a quick scan, right there at the hospital, and told me that he would have his first grandson in a few days.

The next day, everyone started sending me pictures of babies! Here's little Joshua. Treasure tells me he has her hair, even though it hasn't grown out yet.

Mum texted me a picture of my little sister, Carolina. They don't know what color her hair is, but apparently I'll be the first to find out!

"Ky? Your mum just told me that she's ten years younger than I am!"

"Yes, Quinn, we talked about this!"

I laughed as he shuffled off to the computer, and approached our guest. "Sorry about that. He's worried that I'm wasting the best years of my life on a man who will soon die."

"Yes, well, the man who will soon die is the father of my grandchild, so you'd better take good care of him!" she teased. "Now, this little boy won't be the heir for the next generation, but that doesn't matter. He feels strong."

"He is strong," I said proudly. "We're going to have lots of kids. Tons of them. I want three, at the very least, but I want to break Great-Great-Grandma's record."

"A mighty goal indeed," she laughed. "Cassandra had eight children, with three different fathers."

"Okay, maybe not quite break the record," I hedged, "but I want plenty of children. Enough to feed me in my old age!"

Right on cue, I went into labor.

I swear, only in Dragon Valley will a herd of wild horses gallop past your house as you give birth. This place is worse than Appaloosa Plains, for goodness' sake!

However, this circus resulted in a gorgeous baby boy who is the image of Quinn. Peder Moonstone.

Tons and tons and tons of kids.

I expect Azokka either to yell at everyone and totally dominate or else get out the popcorn.-Ombradellarosa

Aww! A little Quinn! When my Sim had kids with him (on the Rainbow slider she was) they had a deep purple child and a teal colored child, both were gorgeous, but this kid is practically a clone of the guy! The good news is, even after Quinn is gone she'll at least have his son that will look just like him. :) Perfect couple.

I've finally read through the whole story! It's lovely! So lovely. I'm glad Ky is the heir. I absolutely loved her. And for the most part, even though I missed all the polling, the story went exactly as I would have wanted! Sorry, Wiry. I'm yet another member of Team Grace.

Oh, don't worry, there will be more than that! (Many, many more . . .)

Agreed! lol  But Peder is just adorable!  Can't wait to see how each of their nooboos turns out!

What, you mean all forty-three of them? (What? Wolffie said there should be more!)

Yay congrats he's a cutie

*cough* Understatement of the century *cough* Just wait until he gets older!

Goodness, those eyes!  I look forward to lots of little babies to coo over soon.

I love the eyes. They're my favorite feature of Quinn's for sure!

Deer!
« Reply #629 on: August 26, 2013, 04:30:09 PM »
Peder is truly a little angel. He never cries, or complains, and his face lights up whenever anyone comes into the room. It's a good thing he's so easy to handle, since Quinn and I are so sleep-deprived from trying to make enough money to live on that we can barely put one foot in front of the other.

I spend a lot of time with my head over the toilet, too--but that's planned. Quinn won't be alive very long, with his birthday coming up and an elder lifespan of two days, so I want to have as many of his children as possible before he leaves me forever.

Since Quinn isn't on maternity leave he doesn't get to spend as much time with Peder, but he does as much as he can.

I love to watch my two boys together, who look so much like each other.

I do most of the teaching, which means that Peder has to deal with female emotions and pregnancy hormones 80% of the time. Yes, that's right, pregnancy hormones! I haven't gotten the results back yet, but I'm absolutely certain that I'm pregnant.

Quinn and I spend time together after Peder's been tucked into his crib, or when he's eating, or when he's playing with toys, or when he's--etc. We're saving up for our own bedroom, so that we won't emotionally scar the kids, but it's not easy to make money these days.

Especially with another baby on the way.

The day after my pregnancy was confirmed, Cyllia asked me if I would help out her partner on the force, Breandan O'Shea, with his logic. He came over, and we played chess, and . . . I don't know. I just felt like we had an instant connection, a lot like the one Quinn and I share but also very different.

Apparently Breandan felt it, too, because he kept trying to flirt with me, even though I was clearly married and pregnant.

Of course, I would have none of it, and sent him away.

After Breandan left, I went back into the nursery to find a deer. That's right, a deer! I, ah, "mentioned" it to Quinn, who said, "It's just a little deer," then continued to teach Peder to walk. A deer! You understand my sentiment, right?

I suppose having a woodland creature waltz right into the house shouldn't be a huge surprise. After all, animals have been coming in and out of the house for ages! Just the other day, a stray dog jumped right up onto the bed and fell asleep. It's strange, but also a little nice.

"So, who was out there?" Quinn asked conversationally after Peder fell asleep.

"Just Cyllia's partner, remember? I was giving him logic lessons. He's a very nice guy--and handsome, too," I teased, "and he was very interested in me, and you're very cute when you're jealous."

"I'm not jealous." My husband laughed at my playful little pout. "This is good. I don't want you to be alone when I die--you're too young to be a widow, and much too young to raise children by yourself. I don't want any of that rubbish about waiting or being respectful--just go out and get remarried."

"Who would want to marry me?" I joked, even though my heart was in turmoil. "Single mom, two kids, in a competitive career--"

"What about that nice guy who's also very handsome?" he responded quietly, holding my hands tightly.

  "People will talk--"

  "People always talk."

I went into labor the next morning, a few minutes after Quinn left for work. I thought about calling him, but decided against it. He'd only rush back, have his boss chew him out, maybe get fired, and be no help at all in his frantic state.

In the end, I held a lovely little girl with very light red skin and Quinn's hair, and something of his face. I can already tell that she's an energetic, bold child with a sunny personality. Coral Moonstone.
