Forget Mist, I'm beginning to be slightly afraid of you, Wiry.

Thanks for all the comments! I'm afraid I don't have the time to respond individually, so let's get on with the update!

"Got it?" Mist finished impatiently, drawing back.

Wogan gulped. "You see, Empress, I just--I just don't know h-h-how I'll be able to do that. I mean, of course I don't want to disobey your orders, since you're the smartest most wonderful and beautiful and powerful person in the world, but--"

He trailed off as his wife watched calmly with a little half-smile. Wogan had been married long enough to know that when the wife doesn't yell, he will be mercilessly punished. "What do you mean, you don't know how?" she almost whispered. "You don't need to know how. I know. You don't need to know. You know nothing, need to know nothing, you need to obey! Are we clear?"

  "Y-y-y-y-yes, sweetie."

  "Good."

And so Wogan drove across the bridge to the Moonstone-Littler house, and he walked through the open door and confronted Bronson. "Your wife cheated on you, the kid is mine, and I'm taking him. Move."

"Hey there, little man." He picked up his son, almost wistful for the life that might have been. Jamie had his grandmother's hair, little purple tips poking through the dark hair.

Carelessly throwing Jamie into the passenger seat of the car, he zoomed through the tiny residential district into the city, and found Elvira Slayer in her building. She was waiting in the lobby. "This is the child?"

  "Mist's nephew, Jamie."

He put Jamie down next to baby Benito, the child of Mist and Elvira. The two boys were failsafes, hostages to ease Elvira's nervousness that the upstart in the city would not attack. Wogan knew that Mist didn't care about the children, that they existed only to keep Elvira feeling safe.

Their safety, or lack thereof, certainly wouldn't keep her from taking Elvira down.

That night, Mist went into labor.

She aged the child up immediately--a lovely little girl with golden skin and highlighted hair. She had Wogan's eyes and an easy smile that warmed her Mother's frigid heart, and to Mist she was a Treasure. The Treasure. Treasure Moonstone.

Tests
« Reply #174 on: June 30, 2013, 02:49:43 PM »
Mist knew Treasure was the heir. She knew, but there was still one test that the girl had to pass before it was official. Mist placed two bears in front of the door and told her daughter to choose.

Treasure immediately crawled to the vampire bear and hugged it with her little golden toddler arms. Standing in the doorway, her mother smiled, her only genuine smile since Cassandra died.

Mist picked up the werewolf bear, holding it distastefully by her fingertips under Treasure's wide-eyed gaze. It was important that she learn from both her mother's words and subtle actions. "This is Grace, sweetie. Can you say Grace?"

  "Gwace!"

"Good. Grace is bad. Grace is stupid. Grace is dirty. We don't talk to Grace. We don't look at Grace. Grace is trash. Grace is garbage. Grace is below us. Got it?"

  "Gwace bad."

  "Mommy?"

Mist growled to herself, impatient, but answered nicely. "Yes, sweetie?"

  "Why Gwace here?"

"Grace is here to serve you, Treasure. You'll never have to act like Grace, because Grace will do everything for you."

Dropping the werewolf bear on the ground, Mist crushed it with her heel. She then picked up the vampire bear. "Treasure, this is you. This is me. We are the elite, the smart, the highest of the high. I am the queen. You are the princess. Understand?"

"I am a princess!" Treasure cheered, smiling. Despite herself, Mist smiled too.

Mist left to finish building Grace's future home. She returned to find Wogan playing on the peg box with their daughter. This was unacceptable.

Wogan would not be allowed to bond with Treasure. No one but Mist would be in the same room with Treasure at any given time. The heir would be kept pure, unpolluted by the rest of the world.

  "Good night, honey."

  "Good night, Mommy."

She entered the garage, wrinkling her nose at the smell. The child had to be removed before she contaminated Treasure. And so Mist shook her daughter out of bed and ordered her to follow.

Grace was taken out to the backyard, to a little shack that had been recently built, and told to enter and climb down until she reached the room on the very bottom of the string of basements.

Having been conditioned to obey, and being terrified of her mother, Grace obeyed. She climbed . . .

  . . . and she climbed . . .

  . . . and she climbed . . .

  . . . I swear these aren't just pictures of her climbing down the same ladder . . .

. . . until she reached the tiny room at the very bottom, and heard a door close and lock far, far above. Grace knew there was no point in trying to get out, so she just curled up on the little bed and went to sleep.

Yes I am scared. I love treasure and hope she turns out good, and not and clone of her mother. I hope grace rebels and like breaks out of her basement and leaves to go to melody's. She is probably the most rebellious teen, and for good reason.
