Mist glanced disparagingly at the house where her sister's family now lived. Quaint little house, rosebushes, cute little mailbox--
how adorable.
No one answered the door, but any criminal mastermind with half a brain can break into a one-story house with no laser defense, or with laser defense, really. She found a wailing toddler on the floor and, being the child's aunt and stepmother, decided she was entitled to a little candy.
Jamie Moonstone. Child of Melody Moonstone . . . and Wogan, Mist's husband. Bronson and the readers don't know the full story.
Wogan went to the Moonstone-Littler household that day on Mist's orders, to meet her sister Melody. However, Mist gave him additional commands . . .
. . . to seduce and impregnate Melody, for a purpose that would be disclosed later.
And so Melody gave birth to Jamie, and realizing her sister's nefarious intentions she moved in hope of escaping further retribution. But Mist wasn't done punishing Melody for trying to become heir. Not even close.
Obsidian cast the Phantasmal Curse, forcing Melody to become a half-dead monster.
Now there was just one loose end to be wrapped up--Elvira. Sure, she and Mist shared a child, and there would soon be another, but that wasn't enough for the ancient vampire. There had to be some other way to confirm their alliance. Something to lull Elvira into complacency, so Mist could strike at the most opportune time. She was reassured, for now, but there had to be something more.
As always when trying to plot, Mist visited her daughter in the garage and added something a little extra to her nightly meal.
Then the kid had to go and vomit outside by the pool while serving Mist her cocktail. Somehow, this was what gave her the perfect idea. A failsafe to placate Elvira so Mist could strike without warning.
She summoned her husband from their bedroom and whispered the plan. Not the entire plan, of course--just what he would have to do. Mist trusts no one, not even her completely subdued husband. Besides, Wogan was stupid enough that he could spill to anyone.
