Yeah . . . that is pretty insane. On the other hand, it gives me an insane idea! Keep writing all the positions down. I have a plan . . .

And what might that plan be?

Neck and Neck
« Reply #136 on: June 21, 2013, 09:41:18 PM »
Grace Moonstone lived a passive existence. That's the nice way of saying that she lay on the floor staring at the ceiling.

Her mother became slightly more tolerant towards the baby as her pregnancy was confirmed. She promised herself that this one would be the heir--the world should be very, very frightened if not.

In due time, Grace aged into a lovely toddler. Mist was struck by how alike the mother and daughter looked--had she been colorful, Grace would have been the perfect heir.

As it was, the child's head was shaved and it was sent to work in the fields.

Mist came to enjoy being a mother--it was like having a free candy factory in your home. Grace's pitiful little cries provided a nice backdrop to the scene, and the sugar allowed Mist to form an idea.

Instead of locking Grace in a tiny room or leaving her on someone's doorstep, she would turn the child into a willing slave. "And when Mommy has problems, you patch them up!"

  "Fix Mommy problems!"

"Ugh . . . go stand in the corner."

The two girls were neck-and-neck in the race for heir--at least in each other's mind. Finale might have been too young to marry, but she knew she couldn't wait to propose if she wanted to be married and bring in an heir right after graduation. So, she asked Ferby to marry her.

And, foolish vampire that he was, Ferby accepted.

Even the puppy-boy, of all people, had a girlfriend. Darcy Xu was more than happy to receive a prom invitation from the shy, handsome boy in shining armor. Matt didn't know how Mist would react, so he hid his relationship from the rest of his family.

But Mist knew. And she knew just how to bring Matt under her control--threaten his girlfriend, and Matt would have to follow her orders. And her orders were to bring down Finale.

Mist watched as Finale came home, finding Matt in front of the house, and began to excitedly explain how he had proposed to Ferby and how she expected Matt to be the maid of honor.

"Sure, that's great and all . . ." Matt began uneasily, then cleared his throat and continued, "but I think you're insane to be doing this. I mean, you and Ferby are just teenagers! Why should you give up your life just to be the heir?"

"What are you--" she shivered in the cold wind. "You know what, let's go inside so I can remind you how to think like a normal person."

"Sorry, can't talk--my girlfriend is over right now. And unlike you and your freak of a boyfriend, we plan to be married after we're old enough to drive." He turned and walked into the dining room, leaving Finale staring after him open-mouthed.

"What, this is your so-called girlfriend?" Finale scoffed, stomping angrily into the room. "Darcy Xu? You have got to be kidding me."

"What's your problem?" Darcy answered angrily. "Matt said you were a total jerk!"

"Shut up, you pile of garbage! Matt and I are best friends. He would never say anything like that behind my back."

In the next room, Mist smiled. Finale's biggest weakness was her insecurity--she needed a friend like Matt to always support her. Well, now that support was turning on her and crushing her into the ground.

"Finale, that is enough!" Matt shouted. "You need to stop trying to destroy every friendship I have. You are so mean, and rude, and you don't care about anyone besides yourself!"

The girl reeled back in shock, tears coming into her eyes. Mist thought for a moment that Matt would lose his resolve.

"And if you can't start acting like a normal person . . . we aren't friends."

The eldest sister smiled as Finale turned and stormed out, Matt and Darcy kissing as she left. Mission Accomplished.

There's being evil and calculating, and there's being heartless. C'mon, Mist. That's your little sister. My older brother and I push each other down stairs on a regular basis, but even he wouldn't do that to me. Sie sind eine grausame frau, Mist.

Maybe I should change the name to the "Moonstone Family Soap Opera," hm?

That's why she's Queen of the Underworld. She loves crushing people's souls.

A car pulled up in front of the enormous building, and from that car came a long-absent son. Amest Moonstone had finally graduated after a childhood spent at Smugglesworth Prep School studying to become a businessman.

He certainly does clean up nicely, with his neon green hair brushed and a crisp Smugglesworth Prep School shirt. Almost like a male version of his mother.

Amest had always been Mist's favorite sibling. Perhaps it was because she felt bad for constantly putting down her older sister and looked for a way to repent. More likely, Amest looked at the possibilities for heir and chose the side that would win.

The two siblings greeted each other, then Mist laid out her plan for him. A way to make sure her brother would be happy and wealthy while getting rid of those teenage brats for once and for all. Amest pointed out a target that would also allow him to keep an eye on Melody, to make sure she wouldn't start rebelling against Mist's heirship.

And so Amest went after Bronson Littler's sister, Deidre.

It took no more than a few sweet nothings to make Deidre break up her boyfriend. By the end of the night Amest had insured the continuation of his line and moved in with Deidre . . . and with him went Finale and Matt. Finally, Mist's position was confirmed.

She immediately made arrangements to leave the Plasma 501 for a smaller, more defensible fort. Mist went down into the basement to help her mother pack, to find her sitting by the computer typing out the final words of her book.

  "Are you finished packing yet?"

Cassandra sighed, standing to face her favorite daughter. "Sweetheart, I won't leave this horrible old place. I'm very old, and very tired. I wish I could go with you up to that beautiful house in the sun, but I'm going to die before you go."

"I've written my memoirs, and you can take them with you for the future generations. I've lived a long time and my life has not been happy. The only joyful time in my life was living in Lunar Lakes with your father and all my children in our tiny, makeshift house. But then things went downhill, and they never seemed to get better."

"Mom, don't talk like that! You're going to love the new house--you'll have your own bedroom right by the pool, and a nice studio to write in, and you'll be able to see my heir every day."

Cassandra just smiled sadly. "Love, all I want right now is to go home, and that's impossible. Just remember . . . the Moonstone's center is Moonlight Falls. It's where we come from, and eventually we will return."

And so the Moonstone family moved to their new home without the founder of their legacy. Mist got the call just as she was changing the locks on the doors.

She went to get the tombstone herself instead of sending Wogan, and set it up in front of the house. Cassandra Moonstone: Beloved Mother.

From the tombstone's base, a dark shape grew and took shape. The shape of a black dragon.

Mist lifted the dragon to her shoulder and it whispered into her ear in a soft, soothing voice. It called itself Obsidian, and told Mist that she was its guardian. It would help her conquer Bridgeport, both above and underground.

Noooo! Cassandra! Why?!

I'm sort of glad Mist is the heiress. Did you build that house?

We all know it would have to happen at some point. No matter how sad  :'(

Mist is the Heir! *Happy Dance*

I think we all saw that coming (referring both to Mist being heir and your strange victory dance).

Noooo! Cassandra! Why?!

I'm sort of glad Mist is the heiress. Did you build that house?

I really was planning to have a poll, but then I realized that Mist was going to be the heir and there was no point in fighting it. And no, I didn't build the house (I simply cannot build), it's the Striker house in Bridgeport.

RIP Cassie. Maybe she can be the goddess of fertility or something...

Hahahahaha. I find that extremely perfect. Put it in the chart!

Motivation

Mist trained her daughter to love her--worship her, even. Most villains in the world prefer to laugh at the idea of love, belittle it as something weak and insignificant. Mist is far, far smarter. She knows that love is the greatest motivator, and she's intelligent enough to twist that emotion into something for her own use. A soldier who loves his general will never run from a battle. And Mist's family is her army.

And so she fed her daughter and put her to bed every night, made her husband feel appreciated and loved--at least before she put him out to sleep in backyard every night--and planned all the while.

Most of all, Mist needed an heir--and fast. She had to get this whole "child" thing over with and start focusing on the bigger goals. While she waited for a baby, her career was at a standstill.

She began to feel constantly frustrated. That frustration was taken out mostly on Wogan, but since he was old enough to walk Mist instead fed on the candy of her daughter.

Even so, the baby recovered so quickly--she was back to giggling within minutes. That happiness so infuriated Mist. There were times when she felt like slicing the child's head from her neck in one smooth blow, but she was always able to regain control before acting on her anger.

Finally, after weeks of waiting, Mist was certain that she was pregnant again. Only, this one would end so much differently: there would be an heir, her responsibility would lift, and she would make her mother proud to have made her heir.

She was able to cheer as Grace blew out the candles of her cake, aging into a beautiful young girl who was a replica of her mother.

Mist found herself enjoying choosing Grace's wardrobe. There was something so fun about shaving a little girl's head.

She had an even better time setting up Grace's room. A nice, comfy cheap bed in the cold garage--but no worries. The heat coming off the car kept her warm and toasty.
