I was planning to start this today but I have an issue: familyFunds is not working. I had no idea this bug existed, but apparently it's quite common (I googled about it a bit to see if I could find a solution). I tried several times, both from live mode, buy mode and edit town mode but nothing works. So... can I just buy random stuff until I get to $1000, put the items in the family inventory and leave them there for the rest of the challenge? Unless someone else has a solution for this.

Note: I did type testingcheatsenabled true before trying familyFunds.

I've never heard of this happening ever before.  I've always heard that it came down to something unexpected.  Triple check the last name of the family household with what you're putting in. Make sure it's not the same last name as anyone else in Sunset Valley. Having the same last name as someone else will give them the money and not your Sims.

Worst case scenario: Start a new game.  After you are done with Edit Town (This should be the only time it's ever opened without permission), create the household in CAS. When you get to the screen where you're supposed to edit relationship, there is a spot where you can change the family name. Choose to change the family name to something very simple. Make sure the last name doesn't have any spaces in it.

You could even rename the household "Crazies". Then all you have to do is type in:

familyFunds Crazies 1000
testingcheatsenabled false

Thanks Ricalynn, I didn't even need to start again because yesterday I decided to wait for your answer before starting. I think the problem was that the last name had a space in it. I edited that and it worked. I always use spaces in last names but I don't use familyfunds unless I'm playing a challenge, so maybe I just hadn't ran into this issue.

There are several threads about it in the official forums so I think it's not so uncommon... but I couldn't find a solution. All that  people said was to use motherlode to inrease funds... no one seemed to even consider the possibility that someone was actually trying to lower the amount! 

So, off to my (un)happy sims! Thanks!

No problem.  I'm told that using " around the name if it has spaces will help. I'm wondering if that's what most other problems are, too.  Enjoy the challenge!

Argh, I got another bug. The consignment store isn't working. I opened a new "test" file to see if it was affecting the general game or just that save, and it is affecting the game in general. In the test file, I tried the usual fixes like resetSim, bulldozing and replacing the store etc. and it didn't work.

Would a factory reset be banned for the challenge? I'm guessing yes, but I still wanted to check.

Apparently my twins had similar urges and autonomously gained a point in the same skill. 

My score is:

  1 maxed skill(s) = 1000
24 skill points in non-maxed skills = 24 X 50 = 1200
  2 skill challenges = 2 x .05 = .1  Final multiplier = 1.00 + .1 = 1.10

Total ( 1000 + 1200) x 1.10 = 2420

So sad.

I didn't try anything in my challenge file, not even resetSim. I just created a new empty random file in Sunset Valley to test if the bug was affecting other files and if resetSim etc. would work, before coming here and asking for permission to do something I wasn't sure would solve the issue. That's what I meant by test file. If that's against the rules I'm sorry, I just didn't want to bother you or anyone else here before being sure about what was going on in my game.

My consignment store didn't work either so I lost out on those points and profits. I also had another bug that's caused me to miss out on at least two challenges but because it was peculiar to that game file there's no way to solve it. These things happen and I know from past challenges that where there isn't a legitimate way to solve them you just have to take the hit to your score.
