I've been debating whether or not to buy Sims 3, because of one major factor: In the Sims 2, I eternally tried to create my neighborhoods and sims to follow medieval european culture.(Culture, not technology.) One large factor in this culture is that 90% of the time, the home and the buissness are one. Residance is taken up over a shop or workshop. Is it possible to mix lots this way in Sims 3?

No, but you could do that in Sims2 because of Open For Business.  Sims3 only has one announced EP. 
I tried going back and doing a sims2 legacy and I failed utterly, I like Sims3 far more because its more realistic and sims aren't tired after an eight hour day (which is not plausable).  I honestly like Sims3 better than Sims2, but thats my own preference. 

There's usually a 30 day return for any game you buy at most places, so if you are displeased you could always get your money back.  You'll never know if you like it or not unless you try it because no one here will play the game exactly like you would.

Hi Rex and welcome to our Forum!

You can't mix residences and business like you mentioned.  The stores are rabbit holes at the moment, meaning we don't even get to see the inside of them when a Sim shops.  Same with the business where Sims have jobs.  However, I've read that the upcoming expansion pack, World Adventures, will have sales counters where you can purchase items.  I don't know that you'll be able to have a residence on the premises, though.  Another thing is that you can be self-employed in the Sims 3 by being an Artist or Musician.  You can also earn money from Gardening and Fishing.  It's not the same as what you're asking, but it's possible to earn a living inside the home and on your own.

I'm not sure about that. An unopened box, yes. But, once you open up software, things get complicated with return policy.

Yeah, I'm with Metro on that one.  The stores around me don't allow any returns on opened software for sure.  Maybe not even unopened software.

That actually brings me to another point. I was thrilled to find that gardening was a skill and an ability, however that's one of the things(It's essentially a farming equivelent, just without the fallow.) which was done publically xP in that culture. Is it possible to create gardens on public lots?

Riverview has a community garden - it is a community lot and fully harvestable by residents.  However I don't believe they can plant on community lots - meaning you have to create it and place it for them in Edit Town.  Once it is placed it can then be worked for gardening skill and produce.

You can't plant on a public lot while in-game.  Only on your home lot.  There are plants that you can harvest on public lots, which are considered "wild" plants.

Best Buy and Game Stop usually let me give it back.  If it's opened it's probably a store credit as long as it's under a certain amount.  You could always ask to trade for something of equal or lesser value.  

How do you make a community garden?  I've wanted to make one in Sunset Valley but I don't know how?  (is this is the wrong section for this question?  do I need to make a new thread?)
