ELF-SCHOOL: A College Daze Project

CHAPTER ONE – HAMISH GIVES A SPEECH

Hamish Oteroin looked at the sea. Somewhere beyond its mists lay Dragon Valley, the world where his kind would flourish. Somewhere there were other lands, too, where his people might find a foothold, if only they could survive long enough.

But he was here in Hidden Springs, about to address the new generation, what everyone feared would be the last generation, of Elves.

“We all know the Elves are dwindling,” Hamish Oteroin began. “Each of you represents the best of a once-proud Elven family. Where once Elves were the mentors of human artists, musicians, philosophers, and writers, we have become the subjects of folk-tales. Most humans doubt that we exist, or worse, confuse us with fairies.

“It is time for Elves to regain our standing in the world,” he continued, “and that is why you have been summoned here, to receive an education before going into a new country to expand our horizons. While you are a student here, you will study alchemy as well as two other subjects. I’ve assigned the other subjects on the basis of your natural talents” (except in the case of five of you, he thought, who seem to have no talents whatsoever). “If you don’t have any talents, you can at least develop skills.

“When you have spent three days as an honor student, we will celebrate with a birthday cake, and you will receive raiment more befitting your status as an Elven prince or princess.

“When you have achieved the highest level of each of your three skills, you will matriculate and journey to another land. There a geis will be laid upon you, to marry with a member of an occult race so that your heir may acquire his or her power. You will know your heir by these signs: a skin color influenced by your own, ears properly pointed, and the racial powers of your spouse.

“When your heir becomes a teen, he or she will join my household in Dragon Valley and learn the finer points of dragon training in order to take over his or her world. Will you join me in this endeavor? If so, pledge your faith to the great Totem of Elvenkind.”

To Hamish’s relief, each of them pledged. They hadn’t seen their dormitory yet, but Hamish hoped it wouldn’t be too much of a disappointment. Each family had contributed what it could afford, but that wasn’t much. Elves were used to becoming one with nature, thought Hamish. But for their sake, he hoped there wouldn’t be much rain.

He regarded his young charges fondly, noting that each wore their hair in such a way to display their ear points, not hiding them as so many of the part-elves did. The first was Felix Demeret, who would study charisma and writing.

Next came Sanchera McCarleve, whose musical talent in general made her a natural for piano and guitar.

His attention shifted to Deannin Poolaki, who would be studying handiness and logic.

The last girl was Aubria Dorainar, his artist, whose paintings and sculptures would help fund the school.

Ignac Jungbloddin would help with the cooking and learn how to make nectar – an essential for Elvenkind. And if he could pick up some coins by painting when Aubria wasn’t using the easel, Hamish wouldn’t complain.

Randal Solise would keep them from going hungry by studying fishing and gardening.

Last but not least, the handsome Brendon Cortney would study athletics and martial arts.

Getting through school would be the easy part, but of course, his students didn’t realize that.

You're doing an elf story too?  Great mind think alike!  This looks like a really cool project...and your elves look like they'll be much friendlier than mine.  I look forward to seeing where this goes.  And to picking a favorite, of course  :=)

Thanks for reading! Pippin, although I admired your elves and am reading their story, I was more influenced by your suggestion that I go ahead with "Hogwarts." Only I suddenly felt more like doing elves than witches -- elves with waning power but pointy ears. And of course, I'm looking forward to Dragon Valley.

I strangely pictured your Hogwarts idea being some sort of crazy conglomeration of various life states rather than all wizards.  Not sure where I got that idea, but it was really cool.  I'm calling dibs!!

CHAPTER TWO – FELIX DEMERET

Hamish soon discovered that the only time the house was peaceful was when everyone else was fast asleep. His students had used a little elf-power (although it was a trick even humans could do, really) to give their sleeping bags their favorite colors.

He took the time to put together a dossier on each of his charges.

The first one was Felix Demeret (pronounced “dem-e-RAY” not “demerit”).

Felix is not one to hide from the limelight, Hamish wrote. In fact, he is generally to be found front and center, perhaps blocking someone else from view.

While I have yet to see any evidence that he’s irresistible, the other students assure me that he does have some charm, despite being what they call a diva. “It’s the way he freaks out,” Aubria explained to me. “It’s so cute!”

I’ve never met a cute neurotic before, so I’ll have to take her word for it.

As most elves know, the Demerets have been vegetarians for centuries. They gave up red meat after the first Demeret Family Feud, and became vegetarians after the second. My own observation is that Felix doesn’t care what he eats, as long as there’s plenty of it.

At this point he has an A average, and a point each in alchemy and charisma, with no points in writing.

Fascinating concept, this. I'm quite enjoying it so far. So, Felix's traits are Neurotic, Irresistible, Diva, and Vegetarian?

CHAPTER THREE – DISASTER!

The disaster wasn’t the fire in the kitchen.

A firefighter arrived and helped put it out (and also gave her number to Hamish).

Nor was it the sink breaking down in the small hours of Sunday morning.

No, this was one of the worst disasters in the history of Elvenkind.

They had all forgotten that other things fell out of the sky besides rain. Despite a reminder, picked up by Deannin the day before, Hamish had failed to put a roof over the students who still slept outside.

It could have been worse. The three girls had moved to bunkbeds inside, and Ignac, being a coward, had brought his sleeping bag into the alchemy room.

Nevertheless, it was terrible. Randal Solise took a direct hit.

And Felix slept close enough to be taken as well.

Brendon, the third student sleeping outside, was fortunate enough to be only singed.

Hamish didn’t know how to face the two boys’ relatives. Each was the last descendant of his family, the hope for the future.

According to legend, it was possible for a ghost to continue the bloodline, possible even for the ghost to be fully resurrected, but the last case had been centuries ago. Hamish resolved to petition the elders in the morning. In the meantime, he decided to write up his notes on Randal.

I remember that Randal was good-natured enough to try out the water slide, even though he thoroughly disliked getting wet, to the point of being hydrophobic.

Besides loving to fish, he also enjoyed gardening, something you would expect from a Solise, for the family was noted for its concern for the environment.

But Randal was not a placid nature-lover – he got very upset when some zombies ravaged his garden.

At the time of his death, Randal had an A average, with 2 points in gardening and 3 in fishing. He had spent one day on the honor roll.

Ohohoho! What do we have here but elves?
I might not be a sucker for fantasy, but I'm here on the off chance that there will ever be evil afoot, or that genies will appear.

Actually, I'm here because of the wonderfully written story so far  ;D

I have never had a Sim hit by a meteor, so I'm really not sure what to say other than how unfortunate it is for your challenge.  Hopefully, the elders can figure this out.

CHAPTER FOUR – THREE STUDENTS

His students were growing up faster than he could write about them. At the rate he was going, they would all have grandchildren before Hamish completed their dossiers. He picked up his pen and decided to start with Aubria Dobrainar.

Like all the Dobrainars, Aubria has a horror of technology, Hamish wrote. She prefers salad and things cooked over a fire pit and won’t use the microwave at all.

She has a childish streak and will make funny faces at the mirror if no one is around to act silly with her.

An excellent painter, Aubria is also a heavy sleeper.

She is easily impressed; in fact, the meteor made such an impression on her, that she painted a picture of it.

She has been on the honor roll one day, with 3 points in painting, and 1 each in alchemy and sculpture.

Ignac is a typical Jungbloddin, a coward like the rest of his family, who are famous for surviving the Battle of Terror Pond by beating a strategic retreat.

I’ve already mentioned that that particular trait may have saved his life, since he usually slept next to Randal when they were outside. Ignac was learning cooking, but decided to take up fishing and gardening instead. I’m glad because cleaning up after him in the kitchen was becoming tiresome – Ignac is a slob. Ignac was also friends with Felix and got quite excited when he beat him at ping pong.

I’m not sure how long the Jungbloddins will continue – Ignac dislikes children.

Ignac has been on the honor roll two days; he has 1 point in alchemy.

Deannin is something of a trouble-maker, being mean-spirited. She has managed to irritate her teacher, Bert Alto, and now she is required to sit next to him on the bus when they go on field trips.

I don’t know how she managed to annoy some aliens; perhaps they discovered that she can’t stand art.

Deannin has a tendency to dramatize things; a simple slip on the skating rink becomes the spill of the century to hear her tell it.

All that said, Deannin has been my biggest helper, repairing the shower and doing dishes.

Deannin also has a good sense of humor and has told us many jokes. She has been on the honor roll one day and has 1 point in alchemy and two points each in logic and handiness.

CHAPTER FIVE – TWO BIRTHDAYS

Today there were two birthdays at Elf-School.  The first celebration was for Sanchera McCarleve.

Hamish hastily put together a dossier:

Sanchera shares the family love of horses.

She is also a talented musician, one might even say a virtuoso.

Sanchera is frugal, something we’re reminded of every time we go into a room where she’s turned off all the lights. She is also supposed to be a couch potato, but we haven’t seen any evidence of that yet. After her birthday, she added the hopeless romantic trait. Her lifetime wish is to become a Hit Movie Composer.

Here is Sanchera in her everyday outfit:

And here is her formal:

Sanchera has 4 points in guitar, 2 in piano, and none in alchemy.

Despite being hydrophobic, Brendon Cortney was willing to try the water slide.

He’s another slob, but since he doesn’t cook, the only room where he leaves a mess is the bathroom. Brendon is ambitious, and has been helpful in collecting gems to add to our funds.

The Cortney family trait is the love of cats, and Brendon shares that.

After his birthday, Brendon put together his wardrobe.

Here is his everyday outfit:

This is his formal:

Brendon’s new trait is athletic ability, and his lifetime wish is Physical Perfection. He has 4 points in the athletic skill, 2 points in alchemy, and none, so far, in martial arts.

Hamish reflected a moment, and then started another file, his own.

Chief cook and bottle washer, Hamish Oteroin is neat, handy, friendly, and a natural cook.

He also has the Oteroin family trait of being nurturing. When his last charge leaves, Hamish will be able to move to Dragon Valley.

I don't have any favorites, but if I did, they would be Deannin.  Is Brendon's mask CC or did it come with the medieval attire he's sporting?

The mask comes with the Limited Edition of University Life -- the party statue that enables Masquerade Parties. It shows up in Accessories in CAS.
